That inviting armed men into women’s spaces to ‘defend’ us is a batshit idea

The TRAs are jubilant because a person who is neither GC nor a feminist yet is constantly associated with these things has put up a lovely little video (since deleted) where she implores men who carry guns to start using women’s toilets to protect women from transwomen. I don’t even know where to start.

I know I will be shouted down because this person can do nothing wrong in so many peoples eyes, no matter what horrible stuff she comes out with. But this stuff basically pisses on all the hard work done to try to convince politicians and policy makers that this is a legitimate and important cause that is not based on hatred or violence.

I am constantly amazed and thankful for Posie’s energy and commitment to keep going on this.

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 22:43

eresh

Isn’t Lisz’s goady fucker the cursed one on twitter? That is how I read it. But I really could be wrong too 😃

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 30/01/2021 22:41

Or do we just say "Fuck off you disingenuous twits, that's not what was meant by that?" and move on?

Yup.

The idea that all women have to carefully toe the line, never say anything extreme or outrageous or off-the-cuff, in case the men in charge think we’re hysterical or dangerous is a ship already sailed.

If men thought women were fully human, we wouldn’t have to constantly check ourselves, (of course not all men/trans”women”). The idea that we must be always so careful to be reasonable and well-behaved and have our paperwork in order is just another version of be “good dear girl, and let who will be clever”.

All the while the TRAs get to be as aggressive and batshit crazy as ever they please, because they’re held to a different standard. (What standard you ask? Well, a different one is all I can say).

I didn’t listen to Posie because I find live-streams annoying, but the idea that one women, making a comment, details an entire movement, is playing directly into the idea that if women aren’t nice, nobody will pay attention. And that there's no women as individual humans, but only woman as little box marked “Nice. Kind. Complaisant. Passive. Quiet. Supportive.” we all have to squeeze into.

Might just be me, but I find it highly hypocritical that someone who takes every opportunity to shit on PP for her associations is basing this latest witch-hunt on information provided by a TRA.

From where I stand PP’s approach has brought this issue into the mainstream with a bang, which can only be a good thing, and she is unflinchingly out to support women and girls.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/01/2021 22:32

YAAAAWWWWN. Please don't feed the goady fucker.

Isn't it funny that I read Lisz' post completely opposite to how Lisz meant it. Biden and Sturgeon. Let's see what their legacy is, shall we?

OldCrone · 30/01/2021 22:21

She was making an appeal to toxic masculinity and to those who see women as their property to "protect".

That's how you interpreted it. My interpretation (as I've already said) is that she was suggesting that men should do Man Friday type stunts (by 'identifying as women') to show how ridiculous a policy of self ID is.

But as I said in my earlier post, I think this could be counterproductive because it is likely to cause distress to women.

GrainneMhaol · 30/01/2021 22:08

You might not care about someone taking an anti-feminist stance but I do. She was making an appeal to toxic masculinity and to those who see women as their property to "protect".

SunsetBeetch · 30/01/2021 21:25

*rely on

Damn you, autocarrot!

SunsetBeetch · 30/01/2021 21:24

I don't really care Grainne. I don't think that Conservative automatically means evil, and I KNOW we can't really on many lefty men for protection or support.

SunsetBeetch · 30/01/2021 21:18

Really Prion? what a POS. But there are never any consequences for CursedE of course.

GrainneMhaol · 30/01/2021 20:52

I was correct about who she was aiming her comments at. At the end of the piece, commenting on the US, she says "and men come on...if you can wear a MAGA hat, which some of you do who follow this page, you can damn well go into a women's toilet to make a point and save the women in your community"

Datun · 30/01/2021 20:28

@AnyOldPrion

CrustE also doxxed Posie. Not going to show the tweet, but there were directions telling how to find her address. Very dangerous person, filled with hatred.

And it’s perfectly obvious in the video that Posie isn’t inciting violence. Pity she mentioned “carrying” as a joke to show off her supposed US language credentials. That’s literally all she did and it wasn’t connected to her suggestion men should carry out a ManFriday style revolt. Not a good idea perhaps, but definitely not any kind of incitement to violence.

I'm reminded of a poster on here reported for encouraging suicide by the 50s schoolboy remark 'take a long walk off a short pier'.

totaleclipse84 · 30/01/2021 19:33

Yes this was my interpretation too. Satire. She was saying “hey - if you’re the kind of bloke who thinks he’s Billy Big Balls ready to defend your wife and kids to the death, how about stepping up now and helping women out against the threat of gender identity ideology”.

SunsetBeetch · 30/01/2021 15:25

YAAAAWWWWN. Please don't feed the goady fucker.

I think there is a place for calm and measured and a place for the Posie types (she's been great at getting attention, and in America too).

Whatever we, Posie, FairCop or Sarah Phillimore say, they will try and pull it apart. That's why they like the term "dogwhistle" so much.

So do we agonise over everything before we say or post anything, and never do anything off the cuff again (in which case we are surely letting them control our speech after a fashion)? And then debate it endlessly on here and self falgelate?

Or do we just say "Fuck off you disingenuous twits, that's not what was meant by that?" and move on?

Socrates11 · 30/01/2021 15:25

Is that what TRAs are really saying? That she is urging gun toting Americans to shoot transwomen?

Well CursedE is bullshitting away

That inviting armed men into women’s spaces to ‘defend’ us is a batshit idea
Lisz · 30/01/2021 15:16

It's a constant fire-fight these days. Been a heck of a year so far eh guys? What with the Sturgeon thing, Biden, this clown mouthing off .. it's like watching a fucking ship sinking.

Floisme · 30/01/2021 15:07

Ruth Serwotka's tweets about PP strike me as neither reasonable nor evidence based.

BrassicaRabbit · 30/01/2021 15:02

As a leftie, I'm always going to be way more upset with other people who purport to be on the left who let feminists down. Looking at you, UK Labour Party.

With mainstream trans rights activism we're dealing with an assault on reality, language, free speech, safeguarding and science as much as we are on women and feminism. I'd be an idiot if I thought I could never join with people from different political backgrounds. This issue is too big and too urgent.

SunsetBeetch · 30/01/2021 14:41

Keira Bell has been inspired by Posie, and has stuck up for her though.

If some people want to be led by the nose by some of the worst TRAs out there, then you do you I suppose.

RoyalCorgi · 30/01/2021 14:21

Every time Posie does something like this she provides the TRAs with ammunition (the metaphorical kind). A lot of women in the gender-critical feminism space are working really hard to win the arguments by being reasonable and evidence-based and sensible (this is how we won the Keira Bell case, remember?) and then PP wades in and ruins it. It makes it so easy for the TRAs to portray feminists as being in thrall to the American Christian right.

EarthSight · 30/01/2021 13:58

@Delphinium20

I saw the video. Yes, she said that. In another video she said problematic things about the attack at the US Capital as well. With all due respect, she needs professional guidance.
  1. Posie should consult with a PR/media professional. She's getting too big to make these mistakes. A simple run through of what her initial ideas are would have shot down the gun thing and would have alerted her to the in-depth facts of the Capital attack. This can be done immediately by any professional worth her salt.
  2. I thought her comments on surrogacy were powerful, sensitive and very persuasive. If she sticks to this type of commentary, she can have positive influence on women's rights.
  3. Whenever she wades into US politics/culture, it's obvious she could use some help. Guns here are no joke and we have out of control gun violence in this country. She also didn't understand that the FBI is charging attackers with insurrection and other crimes. This isn't a simple protest or activist stunt. It was a crime against our government. They threaten to hang Vice President Pence. His family was with him.
It's worse than I thought then. I thought just asking men to do that bad enough!
EarthSight · 30/01/2021 13:53

@RealityNotEssentialism

Okay, it’s Posie Parker who called on ‘men who carry’ (ie carry guns) to start using women’s toilets to protect women. It’s so frustrating because this is such a setback. It plays right into the hands of people who say GC feminists are hateful bigots who just want to harm trans people.
That video's been deleted, which is good. I must have skipped through though or wasn't listening properly as I didn't hear her saying specifically 'men who carry'. She wants to make a scene, to prove a point, but in this case the method of doing that was a very bad idea.
GrainneMhaol · 30/01/2021 13:41

It did not come across as sarcastic. I have no problem recognisikh sarcasm. The comment came across as pandering to conservative american men.

Winesalot · 30/01/2021 13:18

Yeah. I am not sure she needs professional help in getting her message across. She could have the help of someone to produce (if that is the word I am looking for) the show so she can focus (ie getting the tech set up and working, adjusting while she is talking, changing screens when she needs to)

In saying that, I enjoy her videos regardless so it probably would not make much of a difference unless it was picking up on an occasional issue like this where someone could have suggested simply clarifying what she said while it was fresh. So that the video didn’t have to come down and she didn’t have to deal with the distraction this will cause.

Then again, it is more potential content and she can make it work for her.
