Not sure she is saying anything new but important it is being said in a main stream paper. But then like the Times it is right wing and behind a paywall. Would be good to have tv news etc. report on #BidenErasesWomen.

It’s a relevant new update to the thread topic, not the same as a zombie thread!

NiceGerbil · 28/08/2021 02:16

Zombie thread.

At this point I think it's obvious that biden hasn't a clue what he's doing full stop. (Afghanistan).

I had signed up to Abigail Shrier's newsletter a while ago. Found this in my inbox this morning. It was a good read.

Funny how women have been trying to claim their right to equal treatment for decades and have been consistently and persistently knocked back, often with a trivialisation of our claims and or a 'not now dear' whereas almost all other 'minorities' (with men in them) have won similar legal rights. Now, women's and girls' rights are being trampled - at the same time they are being denied. I guess I know who lost the genetic lottery.

I’ve been to America, Delphinium20 - never mind the air con, you don’t have kettles or toasters! You need to get that sorted out. Heathens! Grin

I just read in full Moore's article and agree 100 percent. I truly appreciate how she notes how few rights (example maternity leave) we have.

I know countless women who went back to work after 2 or 3 weeks, still bleeding from uterine contractions post labor, with babies who hadn't yet latched or who refused a bottle. I was lucky to have managers who were mothers and gave me accommodations, but we still struggled with my 12 weeks' of lost wages and the total costs for each pregnancy were 10K. We were in debt for years.

But we do have air conditioning, so that's some consolation Wink

Delphinium20 · 26/01/2021 01:26

*its. Yes. Lots of picking it over but that's ok. What matters would be women and girls become a distinct class based on sex.

Delphinium20 · 26/01/2021 01:25

@MoleSmokes I can't lie and say it will be a cakewalk, because that would deny how long it's been fought by conservatives. The ERA has been around since 1974, but it's brain child goes back 100 years to the suffragists. It's quite onerous to amend the Constitution, rightly so because once an amendment, you're golden. Last week a bipartisan Senate voted to extend the deadline for approval. We'd need 2/3rd Senate to vote for it OR we need 2/3 states to ratify it (I believe that is quite close). But there's little press on something so big that could impact 1/2 of US citizens! However, the fact that a bipartisan Senate did not hesitate to take this up on their first day of business gives me great hope.

MoleSmokes · 26/01/2021 00:30

Delphinium20 if that goes through then there would be some substantial unpicking to be done when it came into force after 2 years - but it sounds like it might be where the gender madness train runs into the buffers if it can’t be derailed before then.

Does it stand a good chance of being voted in?

Delphinium20 · 25/01/2021 22:37

It WOULD be our U.S. pot of gold. The Equal Rights Amendment can ensure that the U.S. Constitution promotes equality and prohibits discrimination on account of sex. Over 200 years ago, women were intentionally left out of the Constitution.

It's a very simple amendment:

Section 1: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Section 2: The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3: This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

MichelleofzeResistance · 25/01/2021 14:47

This would still protect trans people from discrimination in employment and housing and schooling (which all decent people would agree is important), but not at the expense of girls and women.

The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Who could not want that? Unless they actually (rather like Stuart Lachlan discovered) have the second part as the real agenda rather than the first.

I don't know if this video has already been posted in the other "Biden - you Pillock!" (words to that effect) thread - if it has, I didn't spot it.

Always worth checking if an article has been archived:

Sorry, just read the thread, and see the article was deleted. I’ll go sign up to the Telegraph so I can read it, (never thought I’d say that haha) and then start putting together responses.

I’m a registered Democrat and I’m constantly getting asked to donate. Great idea to respond to these separate entities.

MisfitRightIn · 25/01/2021 00:48

Thanks for the link, and all the informed opinions on here. Did the cut and paste of the article get deleted? I came back to read it.

Delphinium20 · 24/01/2021 23:27

@stumbledin thank you. I agree with that strategy as well. It complements the ERA push.

stumbledin · 24/01/2021 21:19

Am posting here (already lost on another long thread) a response to WOLF's press release which suggests an alternative campaigning strategy. I presume limited to those living in the US. Not sure who the author is Blush:

The recent executive order by Pres. Biden does two things: it states a principle of anti-sex discrimination AND directs a review by all Agency heads to make sure their policies comply with that principle. That review is essential to implementing the principle.

If you want to be activist around this, my suggestion is not to focus on rescinding the EO. But to tell the Biden Administration, and the relevant Agency heads, that the review must encompass ALL aspects of sex discrimination. And that protecting Trans persons should NOT come at the expense of women.

IOW, spend your efforts at trying to influence the results of the review. Not in trying to end the review. You will NOT get the order rescinded. Tell the Administration to implement it responsibly with due attention to the rights of women and girls.

For example, tell the head of the DOE to make sure that sex-based distinctions remain in place for Title IX purposes. Tell HUD that sex-based shelters are important for women's safety. Tell the Bureau of Prisons that sex-based segregation of prisoners is necessary for women's safety.

And give them an alternative: males compete on male teams without discrimination. Males get access to male-spaces without discrimination. Everybody gets access to gender-neutral space at their own discretion. Trans and Gay prisoners get safe, appropriate, and sex-segregated housing.

The order DOES NOT implement anything but a policy review, to be completed in 100 days. Get your voice in there. Make yourself heard. Be polite. Be smart. Be respectful of people's needs, including the needs of the Agency heads to have evidence to reject, in even the smallest way, TRA's insistence that males are females.

Remember, this is a President who JUST told all his appointees that he would fire them on the spot if they were rude or attacking of their colleagues.

Remember, also, that TONS of money is coming from TRAs. This is well-funded and organized. But the Senate and the House hang by a thread. Let every Democrat know, politely, firmly, and respectfully, that they need to protect the rights of women and girls or you will have to reconsider your support.

Every time you get a fundraising appeal from any Dem, have a standard text or email response that says: I am concerned about the rights of women and girls. What are you going to do to protect those rights?

Shoutout to WOLF for a well-written press release. Thrilled it's in Yahoo News, which is more or less an aggregator and not really 'left' or 'right'.

Delphinium20 · 24/01/2021 18:58

I urge everyone to simultaneously follow and support the passing of the ERA. It's an amendment to the constitution which is more powerful than a ruling (e.g. Bostock, Roe v Wade) and far more powerful than an executive order which can be quickly overturned/amended at any time by Biden or in four years by a different President or challenged in courts (this EO is limited to just some areas of public life). The ERA was recently brought back to life in the Senate on their first day in session and it was BIPARTISAN. It's a very simple amendment that guarantees equal legal protections based on sex. This would still protect trans people from discrimination in employment and housing and schooling (which all decent people would agree is important), but not at the expense of girls and women. The ERA also could strengthen reproductive rights...another enormous promise to women that Biden and Harris supposedly support.
