I appreciate the politics of the account are erm interesting at times but this popped into my timeline and is worth a look. Littered with the most blunt of blunt replies. (Yesterday but I couldn't see a thread elsewhere.)

you only have to look at the views and behaviour of members of the Women & Equalities Committee to see that

Exactly. And - again Grin - even Guido's very own Tom Harwood, a former Conservative candidate, said that self ID is good and 'TERFs' are wrong.

HecatesCats · 23/01/2021 15:53

True Roz, you only have to look at the views and behaviour of members of the Women & Equalities Committee to see that. Several Conservatives on there signed up to trading away women's rights.

RozWatching · 23/01/2021 15:35

If only it was just 'far left wokery'.
Many Conservatives want self id and won't let it go.

Livinginthecity · 23/01/2021 12:05

Guido like many commentators on the right just like to point out the more batshit elements of the far left wokery going on right now. Suzanne Moore has a weekly column in the Torygraph now since she was fired by The Guardian.

ChattyLion · 22/01/2021 17:35

Pegasus totally agree

EwwSprouts · 22/01/2021 16:59

I wonder if it's ever crossed Eddie I's mind that now he's older and wiser he should consider work on changing culture so that people in clothes of the opposite sex don't feel threatened in the public toilets of their sex? If Eddie uses the men's toilets however dressed, in 'girl or boy mode' then maybe younger trans would feel more confident to do the same and not frighten teen girls as he did.

My point being no one really believes it but it’s very hard to speak out

PegasusReturns · 22/01/2021 15:02

Reasons why people say TWAW:

  1. They like woke cookies - 31%
  2. It furthers their career (may be combined with 1. above) - 29%
  3. It damages their careers not to or they’re scared of being cancelled 22%
  4. They once met a lovely Transwomen called Ann, who like knitting and she was harmless 17.9%
  5. They actually believe it 0.1%
Livinginthecity · 22/01/2021 14:52

I was attending a college before lockdown. It's all mixed loos now. They've taken the main door off so you can see right in. I suppose this to cover themselves if there are any assaults.

Livinginthecity · 22/01/2021 14:49

I'd like to ask him if he knows there's more to being a woman than wearing a dress and heels and putting on make up. Of course he doesn't as he still has his tackle.

Freespeecher · 22/01/2021 13:06

I read that Izzard piece. I'd have liked him to be have been asked to imagine the same event from the point of view of the girls but it was not to be.

Livinginthecity · 22/01/2021 10:51

I see that Eddie Izzard complained about being bullied by some teenage girls who asked him what he was doing in their loo. Has he ever been beaten or raped? If he wants to be a woman, he'd better sign up for the full package.

ChattyLion · 21/01/2021 10:37

it's neither a coincidence nor a conspiracy when politically-opposed people can agree on something so basic and self-evident.

Beautifully put.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2021 10:16

I would see that as "gender critical feminism". I see "gender critical" as being about transgenderism, but that some of it is grounded in feminism. I guess we all have different ways of understanding and I think people are legitimately critical of gender identity ideology without necessarily having a feminist analysis of it. It's important to acknowledge this. Maybe we need a better overarching term, I currently use "gender critical".

Childrenofthestones · 20/01/2021 22:53

@ValancyRedfern

That's how I understand gender critical as well
Correct 😊
ValancyRedfern · 20/01/2021 22:19

SorryPleaseTryAgain · 20/01/2021 22:15

I always thought that "gender critical" meant being critical of gender roles, believing that gender roles are a social construct and that they are a way of oppressing women, and by extension disagreeing with gender ideology.
Not that it meant just critical of gender identity/gender ideology? Have I misunderstood?

MedusasBrandyButter · 20/01/2021 15:34

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I agree. I don't think this type of person is "gender critical" which I see as a more active position speaking out against the creep of gender identity ideology into institutions and policy.

Its just that they don't believe in gender identity ideology. Like most people.

This is so true. And it's neither a coincidence nor a conspiracy when politically-opposed people can agree on something so basic and self-evident.

Really good distinction, hadn't thought of it in that way.

I found it interesting it was the crime/prisons aspect that he chose

The clue is in the second tweet where they (rightly) ridicule Lisa Nandy. They want to pin it all on the 'left', but as I pointed out their senior reporter also believes that transwomen are women and self-id is a good thing. Those were his actual words.

EwwSprouts · 19/01/2021 17:07

Thanks for the knowledgeable responses. I found it interesting it was the crime/prisons aspect that he chose. I assume the account following is predominantly middle class right-wing males?

They've covered Germaine Greer cancellation stories before.

SunsetBeetch · 19/01/2021 15:16

And in the replies isa video of Joe Biden saying people should go to the prison that matches their identity.

I recommend watching the clip^ for Tom's hilariously clueless take on feminists and self id.

"The really ironic thing..."

Rubidium · 19/01/2021 13:47

I think Guido is just using a belief in something which is obviously batshit as a stick to beat the left with.
