I love this!

thevelvetchronicle.com/shiloh-jolie-pitt-and-the-ongoing-claims-of-gender-vultures/?fbclid=IwAR2OgqvBzIwcFz0xnNjRw4o1uxNTe8hGWeezvlGjOG0Fg3PXiie4WW_-NSw

Also in 2010, Jolie said, “I don’t think it’s for the world to interpret anything. She likes to dress like a boy and wants her hair cut like a boy and she wanted to be called ‘John’ for a while. Some kids wear capes and want to be Superman and she wants to be like her brothers. It’s who she is. It’s been a surprise to us and it’s really interesting, but she’s so much more than that – she’s funny and sweet and pretty. But she does love a tie…”
@rabbitwoman was the thread in fwr or elsewhere?

Some areas of mn don't like us talking about being female.
Right here, on FWR, where it was most relevant.....

It's okay, I clocked it for what it was at the time. Whoever 'they' are who like to shut down discourse by complaining as a group may well be asleep right now, so a sensible, respectful discussion can continue....

EdgeOfACoin · 17/01/2021 08:20

Yes, rabbitwoman I noticed that too.

I don't know what to make of the Jolie-Pitts a lot of the time. Their 'rainbow family' as it was called in the early noughties was lauded at the time (with rainbow being a reference to colour rather than the LGBTQ community.)

Now if they tried to do the same thing, I think they would be criticised for having a 'white saviour' mentality.

However, they seem to have taken the right approach with Shiloh (which doesn't seem to have been the affirmation approach, contrary to the view of one PP on this thread) and as a result Shiloh feels free to live and dresses as she pleases.

I worry about the people at Google and other places who stare that Shiloh 'is' John and who hold her up as an icon of the LGBTQ community. I don't think kids should be 'icons' of anything - they are still figuring out who they are!

....However, it was clear to me at the time that there were quite a gang of people very keen to shut down any discussion, because I think it probably proves that many children play dressing up, make believe, and don't actually need puberty blockers, etc. It's like they don't want it discussed at all....

Absolutely.

rabbitwoman · 17/01/2021 07:38

...... Obviously this is not the case.

I did have a quick look around the Internet afterwards and it is not speculative at all - Brad Pitt said in an interview that his child likes to be called John and be referred to as a boy...... Many many official interviews have been accompanied by pictures with John being referred to as 'john' -, including their wedding photos!

I am soooo glad to see discussion on this. However, it was clear to me at the time that there were quite a gang of people very keen to shut down any discussion, because I think it probably proves that many children play dressing up, make believe, and don't actually need puberty blockers, etc. It's like they don't want it discussed at all....

As a bit of an aside, I started a thread a few days ago on this exact same topic, using some of the exact same pictures of Shiloh Jolie Pitt and posing the same questions.

Within about half an hour it was zapped. There was quite a pile on - half a dozen or so posters telling me I was disgusting, in poor taste to discuss a child, 'fuck off with using a child to prove your point, reported'....

I was bewildered. I did email mumsnet hq to ask for more clarification - here is what they told me:

'We'll generally take down threads discussing a child in this way especially if it's largely speculative. The thread was also reported by many MNers - quite a few of whom have been members for a while now. Given all of this, we really couldn't see this one ending well and we aren't currently minded to reinstate that thread.'

To be fair thingybob, I think the younger children I'd as trans with mothers who believe they need "correcting" tend to be male wanting to be female.

It's easier for younger girls to be tomboys and girls who want to be male tend to be older. (Not always obviously.)

Holly Branson put up an Insta message last year basically saying exactly the same thing - that she dressed only in boys clothes until she was about 10/11. She now has three kids which, if the gender vultures had gotten their claws into her back then, she wouldn't have been able to - yknow, after they brainwash her into slicing off her breasts, removing her womb and taking sterilising hormones.

Thank goodness!

Thingybob · 16/01/2021 16:47

Are there any Mermaids mums watching?

If so, wouldn't you prefer your quirky, gender non conforming children to be like Shiloh? A child who has been allowed to grow up and develop their own interests and personality in an environment that didn't enforce gender norms.

TrashedWarrior · 16/01/2021 14:56

I also have some shoes I loved from top shop named after her when she was born. Very high; can't wear them now!

Wouldn't be surprised if she back lashed against the pink hype around her when she was young. (Not from her parents, I imagine everyone else.)

TrashedWarrior · 16/01/2021 14:54

As an adult people have queried my hatred of musicals and love of sci fi. Even very sensible aforementioned girl's mum. (Who I said should know better!)

To me that's just very sensible.

Dh was just relived.

mumnowformerrockstar · 16/01/2021 14:52

I haven't seen pics of her in a long time. She was such a beautiful toddler.

TrashedWarrior · 16/01/2021 14:51

A friend's daughter always went to weddings in a suit.

Definitely a girl.

Always had long hair though.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 16/01/2021 14:23

Exactly. For some, all a little girl has to do is pick up a toy dinosaur and oh my god, a boy. I was a girl who liked rock music, wrestling, sci-fi, video games and skateboarding. Still a girl though. I'd have half the bloody internet transing me had it been around growing up. Hmm

Thank fuck it wasn't. I now have a daughter, nearly 3. I sure hope this sort of bollocks is firmly knocked on the head when she's older.

Totally agree about the need for likes, validation, it's like a generation of people pursuing the need for being affirmed and celebrated every step of the way. Never told no. Any time something is raised that makes them feel the slightest bit uncomfortable, or has them questioning themselves they completely go off on one. They're so fragile and blinkered, they have no resilience, it's not good to see Sad

HerselfIndoors · 16/01/2021 14:19

This was me as a child. Luckily it was 40 years ago and I was a tomboy, not a "boy". I also had phases where I liked skirts and longer hair and guess what I'm still the same today. Female and enjoying all the cultural stuff I want to. I'm so happy Shiloh has not been pushed into anything, that's how it should be.

SkeeterP · 16/01/2021 12:51

I remember a little girl I taught (a long time ago) who you would always find in the construction area in the classroom and on non-uniform day would come in dressed in a little suit and tie. I never once thought she was ‘trans’ ... only that she’d grow up and probably be an amazing engineer.

I think the Jolie-Pitts have this exactly right.

Beamur · 16/01/2021 12:40

Sensible parenting of something a lot of kids go through as they figure themselves out.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/01/2021 11:47

There's so much of this going on. Kids being used to shape a narrative that suits adults. Another aspect of the safeguarding disaster that is gender ideology

Half the people have nothing to do with any of it. The Internet seems to also be full of really needy people so desperate fir likes and approval they just throw themselves into writing posts and liking posts and correcting people with pronouns. Has nothing to do with trying to help anyone just fulfilling their own needs to be "liked"

Not even talking about tras here just alot of people in general. We have become so bloody needy that even our food is used ti gain attention. There seems to be no end in sight. No one can see the damage they are doing to any cause they just want those likes. So many attention seekers

Fwiw I don't think they even mean any harm its just not thought through. Social media /Internet use its just well impulsive.

Itsnotlikethiswithotherpeople · 16/01/2021 11:39

Love this! Also so disturbed that a young teen has to deal with this crap online.

HecatesCats · 16/01/2021 11:21

"Asking to be called John wasn’t an indication that Shiloh was a “boy.” Here are some other things that weren’t an indication: a preference for suits, stylish haircuts, liking “boy” clothes, colors, hobbies or interests, emulating her dad or her brothers."

She.Has.Always.Been.A.Girl.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 16/01/2021 11:11

What a gorgeous girl - those amazing genes shining through there!

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2021 11:08

It's great that Angelina has spoken out loud and clear, I expect she was very angry about the transing of her daughter.

HecatesCats · 16/01/2021 11:04

Shes a kid. She should have just been left alone not made some unwilling mascot

There's so much of this going on. Kids being used to shape a narrative that suits adults. Another aspect of the safeguarding disaster that is gender ideology.

The site thevelvetchronicle.com/ looks interesting as well -- it's a GC site and seems to be run by some great women:

Who we are:

The Velvet Chronicle is spearheaded by The Robertsons and inspired by all of the great women who fought before us. We are a harbor for young people, and a safe haven for those who are caught out in the storm. A place for warriors to draw inspiration. If you listen real close, you can almost hear Stormé DeLarverie give her famous call to arms — “Why don’t you do something!?” …So we did. And you can too.
