Includes a chapter on trans. The very first page includes the assumption that women like us don't want trans-identifying people to have the same rights as every other human.

I certainly believe that trans people should have all the same rights that I do. I don't believe I have rights to enter sports, prisons, toilets etc designated for the opposite sex.

I feel very sorry for his wife but I guess she knew what she was getting herself into, his daughters however are stuck with him.

So he's heterosexual.

Someone needs to ask him : if he wasn't married, or if his wife left him, would he consider a relationship with a transwoman (with a penis, as most of them do)? If not, why not? Is he transphobic?

Childrenofthestones · 25/12/2020 21:16

He's something of a bully who made GC comments about Transwomen and fell foul of their lobby who attacked him. He shat himself and apologised, changing his tune very quickly.
He reminded me of somebody who found themselves on thin cracking ice in the middle of a lake and quickly made his way to the shore. He's not ventured out from the shore ever since

@notassigned

Yes 2020Wumben he goes into the thing with Paris Lees in the chapter.

The genital checks argument is ludicrous but the truth remains that one issue stopping resolution of this matter is that early transitioning TW who pass well say "would you make me go into the men's" and the general public - seeing someone who resembles an attractive young woman - automatically say "no, of course not".

For every picture of a Karen white we put forward, they show you some feminine looking 25 year old TW who lives quietly in their community. And this is an issue.

I agree..
ClaireP20 · 25/12/2020 21:04

@2020wumben

He had Piers Morgan on his podcast and they discussed how he could understand how a woman wouldn't want a penis in a changing room/ toilet, that was perfectly understandable but then his friend Paris Lees said this would mean genital checks (Hmm) on entry which he doesn't agree with. Tbf I don't think anyone would agree to that but he asked PM what he suggested would be a resolution and PM was like I don't know, I don't have an answer.

So the usual it's all brought back to changing rooms and toilets, nothing about safeguarding for both women and children. Would be good to see him engage with someone who knows the issues in a bit more detail.

The thing is many women would not object to trans women entering the changing room, as such. I'm sure we all know or have encountered men dressed as women popping into the female loos etc. It isn't actually about that, it is about not adhering to the ongoing and increasing ridiculous demands of the trans lobby, who want to enshrine in law their rights to use the female toilets and enter female spaces. Would most women mind if an obvious trams woman used the female loos? No. Would most women mind that any man who states he is a woman has the rights to enter a woman's space and be treated as a woman, including hospital wards, prisons etc? Of course.

They just don't get it, because they are arrogant arseholes.

And what queenofknives said. Obvs.

UppityPuppity · 25/12/2020 20:39

Interesting not really that he doesn’t want to talk about transgender issues women’s rights but then we don’t count then says he has to for three reasons:

Is it because:
a ) he’s a misogynist
b ) knows that allowing men to become women destroys women’s rights and women as a political, biological, economic and social class
c ) think men should be given a free pass to undress alongside girls?

All three?

Not a good look for someone who is always right.

My non woke, but still doesn’t quite get it DH was introduced to Titania McGrath’s book - a very refreshing reaction from him.

queenofknives · 25/12/2020 19:44

What a fucking wanker

I used to wonder why some people don't see that current tra means that women and girls don't get to have space (both physical and the right to organise) away from male people.

After talking to lots of tra and their supporters, I now realise that they don't believe that women have the right to our own space.

Maybe that's O'Brien position too?

Jackabobbo · 25/12/2020 16:35

Can't stand him. Patronising sexist man.

NotTerfNorCis · 25/12/2020 15:57

For a book on how not to be wrong, he's off to a bad start.

Eowynthewarrior · 25/12/2020 15:13

Surely the title of the work suggests an implicit sense of arrogant self righteousness ?

OhHolyJesus · 25/12/2020 14:55

I would suggest that in order for JOB not to be wrong, it would require not opening his mouth.

I feel very sorry for his wife but I guess she knew what she was getting herself into, his daughters however are stuck with him.

He's just another woke fool who thinks he knows it all and fails to understand any of it.

Lottapianos · 25/12/2020 14:02

'He is just a hectoring, smart arse bully, probably sporting a micro-penis.'

Perfect description!

Hes a total plum and as others have said, nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is. He is so wrong on the trans issue. He was VILE to Posie Parker when she phoned his show about the issue of feeling uncomfortable with men in women's changing rooms - actually asked her 'what is it you think I'm going to do to you?'. Let all of his misogyny hang out for everyone to see. Oops Hmm

dyslek · 25/12/2020 13:57

Is this the guy who's a DJ?

Im not sure that the opinions of DJs are generally held to carry that much weight.

Lampzade · 25/12/2020 13:51

James O Brien lacks critical thinking skills.
He’s not as clever as he thinks he is

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2020 13:48

'Having the same rights' doesn't mean everyone can park in a blue badge space. 'Having the same rights' doesn't mean males can compete in female competitions.

AnyOldPrion · 25/12/2020 13:41

It continues to amaze me that everyone who argues against the gender critical position invariably misunderstands it. Guess it must feel the same on the other side of the equation because it all revolves around whether you consider men are women or not. If you believe they are, you’re on one side. So JOB here thinks we want to deny men the same rights women have, and sees that as unfair as he thinks they are women.

An honest appraisal of our position is that we believe men cannot change sex and therefore think that giving mens rights to women is fundamentally wrong.

It follows that we don’t believe that men who claim they are women should have the same rights as women, but that doesn’t mean in any way that we don’t want them to have equal rights.

wonderstuff · 25/12/2020 11:51

I quite like JOB, bought the book for DH last year, not read it myself.

I think that white MC men need to understand the limitations to their understanding of marginalised groups, a few male comics are advocating for trans rights against evil feminists too. I think there's deep irony that they feel they are standing up for an oppressed group when actually they are just more closely connected to the experience of trans women than biological women, they've failed to grasp an understanding of women's lived experiences and dismissed them in favour of men in women face and actually feel they are feminists.

I wonder why he and others don't stop to consider why women would have an issue with accepting that men are women? Especially when left wing philanthropists like JKR are being so vocal.

Such arrogance.

I do think outside the media bubble more people get it. I don't know anyone in real life who thinks self-ID should happen.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/12/2020 11:37

Does 'how not to be wrong' include 'don't be that man who tries to tell women how they should think and behave without any real understanding of their issues'?

ClaireP20 · 25/12/2020 11:34

Oh what a surprise!! A middle class, white, left leaning man is telling women what is acceptable and what isn't. I am so glad we have people like him to show us the error of our ways and to help police our thoughts.

Does he mention men with functioning penises being allowed access to women's prisons at all, just stating they are women?

Cuntysnark · 25/12/2020 11:34

We have a very special and astonishingly rude name for him. The only bit we leave in is the O’. He’s utterly vile.

Kaliorphic · 25/12/2020 11:33

He hasn't got a clue. All he likes is the sound of his own motor mouth. Critical thinking skills? Not O'Brian's strongest point. I cannot stand him.

Mollyollydolly · 25/12/2020 11:27

Cannot stand him. Arrogant, privileged, snide arsehole, not half as clever as he thinks he is. Won't listen to him, so patronising. He epitomises for me the type of person who caused Brexit - and I was a remainer. Listening to him would make me vote leave (if that makes sense).
