goodlawproject.org/update/advisory-group-transgender/

I know that there is another thread on JM but thought I would start a new one as this has just been released. First of all he has named the people on his advisory committee. They include Alex Sharpe, whom we know all about and about whom no more needs to be said.
Second, they are trying to force a change of policy from the Tavistock that they give PBs simply on parental consent to children who cannot consent to them. That is chilling and dangerous and puts an awful lot of power in the hands of adults with nobody to protect the child’s interests. JM has lost the plot.

Can anyone recall any other ideological movement that caused otherwise apparently sane, educated professionals to throw caution and their careers to the wind inviting widespread ridicule from their peers?

The satanic ritual abuse conspiracy. Which after being discredited and lying dormant for a number of years re-emerged as a key component of QAnon.

@Siablue

That is very interesting that that comes from the head of his chambers. I do think it shows that he must be a difficult person to know. I think a good test of how safe someone is as a person is how they treat animals. Anyone who can treat an innocent animal like that is worrying and somebody you would want to avoid.

It also shows that lawyers do not think there is a case and what the Tavistock are doing is illegal.

I only knew of him through his government challenges at that point and I was disposed to think well of him.

In one tweet he changed that. How to ruin your reputation in less than 280 characters, that was.

FannyCann · 26/12/2020 23:23

Hmm. Wikipedia tells me David Icke, who presumably needed a new career after his professional footballing days were over, has published more than 20 books as well as lecturing around the world.

No doubt the Webberley's have made a comfortable living from providing a niche service (although one would have thought they should have had a perfectly satisfactory income from combined careers as GP and Consultant Gastroenterologist). Interestingly Mike's twitter bio now describes himself as "Retired".

The other two are a long way from retirement, they are at a stage when their careers should be gaining momentum and they should be reaping the rewards of years of hard graft. How will they reinvent themselves to generate income in the future I wonder?

I don't see any way back for them to respect from their peers.

No doubt others I can't recall off the top of my head.

All I've got is David Ike Grin

@PlantMam

Ah. That makes sense. A kind of ‘functional behaviour’ to ensure that they don’t meet Madame Guillotine once the revolution gets going?
That and a desperate internal need to be admired by younger people. It's a psychological drive often associated with family circs.
Helmetbymidnight · 26/12/2020 19:59

It is quite glorious to see how the legal professionals are treating Jolyon now - he clearly has pissed off many more than just one or two feminists "funded by the Christian right."

JamieLeesCurtains · 26/12/2020 19:48

Maybe it's how some posh middle-aged white male tax lawyers finally get to feel acceptably relevant and special instead of being hated by younger people as parasitical capitalist enablers.

PlantMam · 26/12/2020 19:21

Bonkers.

Is it a posh person thing? Or a posh man/male thing?

(Intersectionality for the upper classes? 😂)

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 26/12/2020 19:07

That person is the same as me. only posh. and dressed as an 80s settee.

@MoleSmokes

Plantmam the very same.

My god that just screams midlife crisis. Of all the people i would choose to screw your highly successful career over for, this person would be at the bottom of my list. Said person is still listed as David on the QMUL website.

nauticant · 26/12/2020 18:25

Wow. For your head of chambers to publicly denounce you as having "lost the plot" is quite something, isn't it?

It's likely that there was a breakdown in the relationship some time before the current shenanigans, a breakdown that set the scene for JM to leave the chambers.

The tweets by Timothy Brennan show that he's well past the point of feeling he needs to show JM any professional courtesy.

RoyalCorgi · 26/12/2020 18:11

I don't understand why Jolyon isn't pausing for thought given that every QC on twitter seems to think he is barking up the wrong tree?

I have to be careful how I phrase it, given previous deletions, but I think that perhaps Jolyon and rational thought parted company some time ago. (Will I get away with that, I wonder?)

DeRigueurMortis · 26/12/2020 17:10

Interestingly there are quite a few tweets from senior legal professionals in response to JC's interview.

They all find the premise that JC's position that parents always know best is ridiculous and obviously demonstrably untrue.

He (and the GLP) are not coming out of this at all well within the legal community.
