Video in the link. And if I'm understanding correctly, Stonewall are going to be advising Ofcom on which groups the BBC are allowed to feature in their reports?? Hmm

John Nicholson compares the BBC asking LGBA their opinion on trans rights to asking a racist group to comment on whether black people should have equality. Allison Bailey has tweeted him. Understandably she finds the racist comparison offensive. He tries shutting her down by referring to the crowd funders that were taken down for ''hate''. No, those crowd funders were maliciously targeted by anti-women and homophobic groups/people, John.

He also says that people are making the same arguments now against trans people that they used to against gay people. I don't remember gay men ever demanding women's rights, or trying to force women and girls into situations they're uncomfortable with. I don't remember gay men being sent to women's prisons because they feel unsafe in the men's, or gay men demanding the right to cheat women out of sports medals and job positions, does anyone else?

Gay men and lesbians were persecuted because of homophobia. This pushback against the trans lobby has shit all to do with any ''phobia'', it's the unreasonable demands that will put women and children in danger, and the threatening of anyone who doesn't comply that we're against. We're against the homophobia coming from the trans lobby, particularly against lesbians, that so called LGBT champion groups turn a blind eye to.

I'm sick of these hard of thinking, overgrown children framing anyone who doesn't want to focus all their energy on trans 24/7 as 'hate groups'. Women's groups who want to focus on women only? Anti-trans hate group. Group who want to centre LGB people only? Anti-trans hate group. Rape victims wanting to chose the sex of their examiner in the aftermath? Anti-trans hate. Dismiss and smear anyone who doesn't blow smoke up their arse as a right wing hate group in an attempt to deplatform them.

Can they just have a fucking word with themselves, they're so boring and predictable.

So sorry for the rant, I'm so sick of the idiocy.

Nope. And nor does Nicholson or anyone else. But they’re too lazy to think up a plausible reason for applauding the demolition of women’s rights. And they’re not going to admit it’s misogyny.

Apparently later in the session Damian Green called her out. I'll have to sit down and watch the whole session. It's pretty obvious she doesn't know what she's talking about.

yourhairiswinterfire · 16/12/2020 14:33

Would LGBA be able to take action against these pricks? How does it work? Can a 'group' take action, or does it only work if a single, named individual is being targeted?

I'm starting to get a bit obsessed with Select Committees. Does anyone know if transcripts are routinely produced and on what timescale? I want to complain but want to be absolutely sure what she said.
I'm also going to include this in the Hate Crimes consultation. It is totally unacceptable to accuse organisations of being Hate Groups and transphobia in this way. In fact doing so is a Hate Crime with a very specific purpose of silencing and disenfranchising someone you disagree with particularly in the case of the LBG Alliance.
I am absolutely livid, my blood pressure is through the roof!

yourhairiswinterfire · 16/12/2020 13:57

Surprise surprise, Colm of Amnesty Ireland, who believe women who defend biological sex should be disenfranchised, is all for this.

What's not acceptable is stamping all over women's rights to privacy, dignity, fairness and safety without letting us have a say in it, Colm. And no one is being 'forced to justify their existence', you massive dingbat.

Another call for the baroness?
And there are a myriad of cases here.
Also of note for BBC that the majority of those jailed for non-payment of TV licences - which remains a criminal offence - are women

UppityPuppity · 16/12/2020 12:33

2.6 Ofcom is accountable to Parliament. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport is the responsible Minister, except for postal services when it is the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills

So would it be appropriate to write to him especially as misogyny is being added into the twitter legislation? Ofcom should be concerned with neutrality and the rule of law, not pushing one viewpoint.

I would imagine it would be appropriate to email Oliver Dowden and Liz Truss- plus cc in Boris.

?Plus your MP?

Everyone needs to contact them.

As Passmeabottle showed up thread - it’s such a conflict of interest giving full media influence to a campaign lobby whose whole intention is to remove the rights of 51 % of the population and then calls us bigots - plus their approach to child safeguarding for children who present with gender dysphoria - It’s an outrage.

yourhairiswinterfire · 16/12/2020 12:30

No lobby group should be given access to advise - plus OFCOM is a Stonewall Champion - the conflict of interest is obvious.

Yes. Many women believe SW to be an anti-women group, what with trying to remove our sex class as a protected characteristic, trying to remove our rights to single sex spaces, making a 14 year old schoolgirl uncomfortable enough to sue them, throwing female athletes under the bus by expecting them to compete with males, and persuing a lesbian for no good reason.

Why do they deserve a platform over LGBA? Why the hell do they get to be King Dick dictating who everyone is allowed to listen to?

@Imnobody4 I wonder if Oliver Dowden has been made aware of this conflict in interest.
A powerful lobby group are indirectly interfering with the editorial impartiality and independence of the BBC. The charter is based on giving a voice to both sides of an argument and a fair hearing, and Ofcom are in no place to advice or “inform” the BBC “in an appropriate way” as their advice has been compromised. They have an agenda one that is been driven by Stonewall.
Does Baroness Nicholson been made aware - perhaps she may have more sway?

PlantMam · 16/12/2020 12:17

I’ve just been reading the judgement for Kate Scottow’s quashed conviction.
The judges (The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Bean and the Hon. Mr Justice Warby) included this quote

‘Freedom only to speak inoffensively is not worth having.’

Someone needs to tell Ofcom.

Quote is from
Redmond-Bate v DPP and the longer version is even better.

‘Free speech includes not only the inoffensive but the irritating, the contentious, the eccentric, the heretical, the unwelcome and the provocative provided it does not tend to provoke violence. Freedom only to speak inoffensively is not worth having.‘

Decided: 23 July 1999
Court: High Court of Justice
Judge(s) sitting: Lord Justice Sedley; Mr. Justice Collins

SaucyHorse · 16/12/2020 11:56

Is it considered acceptable for MPs to block potential constituents on social media? Even if they don't agree with all their constituents, isn't it still their job to honestly engage with them and try to understand their concerns and perspectives? Perhaps if an individual was being seriously abusive to their MP on social media, but clearly this is a block list including many people who have never interacted with him. Mass blocking seems a very suspect and undemocratic practice to me.

I don't know much about this, but perhaps someone here does. Isn't there some kind of code of conduct for MPs to follow on social media and is the subject of blocking addressed?

RozWatching · 16/12/2020 11:44

@Passmeabottlemrjones

They've been consulting Stonewall on how to get 'balance'?

Hang on..... This Stonewall...?

Yes, exactly. Any org that campaigns for the removal of existing women's rights is inherently biased against women and hardly an impartial party. And Stonewall has ditched same-sex orientation in favour of gender, so they can only speak for gender believers. All the more reason to give LGBA a platform.
2Rebecca · 16/12/2020 09:54

He's SNP and a fan of the hate crime bill self id etc. Just been an MP for a year

UppityPuppity · 16/12/2020 07:32

but what is the best way to address the suggestion that Ofcom is going to Stonewall on whether women's groups can be heard from on issues that impact on women?

Yes - I would like some advice on this from women in the know.

No lobby group should be given access to advise - plus OFCOM is a Stonewall Champion - the conflict of interest is obvious.

Aside - no public body/organisation should be allowed to be a Stonewall Champion.

EightiesRobot · 16/12/2020 07:09

Given feminists incredible power I shouldn't even have to ask, but what is the best way to address the suggestion that Ofcom is going to Stonewall on whether women's groups can be heard from on issues that impact on women?

yourhairiswinterfire · 16/12/2020 01:01

@PlantMam

At this rate we will have to crowdfund for Legal action against Ofcom next!
Ah, but crowd funding is bullying now, innit. Poor trans groups like Stonewall and their associates just haven't got the funds to match us nasty biatches throwing our £10s here and there at crowd funders.

It's an unfair fight see, what with us being so damn powerful, influential and privileged, whilst they scrape by on peanuts and struggle to be heard. Apparently...

PotholeParadies · 15/12/2020 21:52

John Nicolson MP shouldn't be lecturing anyone on balance seeing as he may have blocked half the women in his own constituency, just because someone else had added them to the block list he subscribes to.

RozWatching · 15/12/2020 21:32

Bev Jackson of LGBA was one of the founders of Gay Liberation Front. Is Nicolson actually so dim as to believe that she and others started a new group because they are 'phobic'?

Malcolm Clark does brilliant threads Star

"How out of touch is our political class? A thread about a bullying politician and the trendy but dangerous delusion he promotes that means big burly guys get to shower with girls, a lesbian can have a penis and children are taught there are 100 genders. At least."

SunsetBeetch · 15/12/2020 21:18

He's a fucking nasty piece of work. Is he not abusing his power here?

TheGreatSloth · 15/12/2020 20:59

This is the kind of thing that makes me feel content that I cancelled my bbc licence. I really agonised about it- but I haven’t missed it for a minute.
The licence fee funds homophobia, outdated stereotypes and misogyny, as far as I can see.

Imnobody4 · 15/12/2020 20:54

This is to be expected from Nicholson what worries me is the response of Melanie Dawes especially as a Civil Servant she was also Civil Service champion for diversity and inclusion. Has she been Stonewalled.

MichelleofzeResistance · 15/12/2020 20:11

Fully agree re Ofcom .
