Not sure if there's been a thread on this.

Welsh (Plaid Cymru) MP Helen Mary Jones seems to be getting the Rosie Duffield treatment on twitter.

She has deleted a retweet and has seemingly been made to apologise.

twitter.com/HelenMaryCymru/status/1336686916213813252?s=20

It's hard to see what she retweeted as it's now deleted but it seems to be a retweet of a Professor Rosa Freedman tweet calling out JM's offensive response to the recent Keira Bell judgement.

twitter.com/GoonerProf/status/1335277156847546373 (Rosa's tweet)

Last night, Adam Price, leader of Plaid Cymru did a mantra statement on twitter....

twitter.com/Adamprice/status/1336718715497410562

Helen Mary Jones now being subjected to the "she needs reeducation, this is a teachable moment, she should be removed" treatment.

In fact Plaid Cymru is way out ahead, as they seem to have all ganged up against Helen Mary Jones. Not one of them defending their only MP who reckons a court judgement that annoyed trans people is not equivalent to the Holocaust.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 16/01/2021 17:22

The Labour Party must be breathing a sigh of relief that Plaid Cymru has overtaken it in the antisemitism stakes.

EarthSight · 16/01/2021 16:57

I've looked at the negative comments directed at her. Most of them are from men, mainly bearded ones. Photos can be very misleading, but I thought it was quite funny that my dip into the Twitter comments ties in with that Plaid photo.

daringdoris · 16/01/2021 15:17

Thanks merched , only just seen this. Am still a member but ony because I've been feeling too apathetic to deal with it properly and too wimpy to have a conversation about it with my local contact, who is a great fan of Adam Price, and I have absolutely no idea what he thinks about this issue, or whether he's even aware of it.
Who do you you mean by 'we'? Are you (in) a group? Give me a clue! Smile

MerchedCymru · 05/01/2021 16:50

Sadly there doesn't appear to be an official GC fight-back from Plaid women Daring. Which doesn't mean that they are happy with what's going on of course: we have lots of Plaid members and an increasing number of ex-members (including me).

The problem runs deep - started under Leanne Wood, exacerbated under Adam Price. The political capture in Wales is extensive. But we are working on it!

RoyalCorgi · 05/01/2021 10:18

That Plaid photo is hilarious.

The Helen Mary Jones story shows how mad this has all become. There was a time when the Holocaust was untouchable, and any attempt to compare a minority group's treatment with that of the Jewish genocide would have been regarded with horror by all and sundry. The fact that it's now the person who objects to the comparison being made is the one who's reviled is the perfect illustration of how demented it all is. One day (I hope) people will look back on this with bewilderment and wonder how we allowed this to happen.

HecatesCats · 05/01/2021 08:30

Wow, that photo.

Molesmokes · 05/01/2021 06:52

This photo of a Plaid rally says it all.

Looks like Fathers for Justice on steroids.

How these Men’s Rights Activists love any excuse to stick it to a woman and - Bonus Points! - get a free pas by wrapping themselves in a sickly pink and blue trans-allies flag.

How very dare they attack a woman who is standing up against the Holocaust being appropriated! Look at them circling and attacking her on Twitter. It’s a disgusting feeding frenzy.

There will be a one-party state by the tine they have finished because they will have destroyed the credibility of all the alternatives. Our dystopia and their utopia.

That photo. Scary! But not for those who “identify as” women.

I would be involved in that daringDoris, if we can find out more.. It's very critical that they know how we feel about it. I think so many are in the twitter bubble, they think that "all that" is unopposed and beloved by all...

daringdoris · 12/12/2020 14:20

Yes, mwnci, I also get the impression that everyone had been asked to be quiet about it, and that this situation has forced Adam Price's ridiculous statement.
I would love to be able to vote for them (and couldn't last time as our local candidate stood down as part of the agreement with the lib demsHmm) but simply cannot vote for them/remain a member if this is the party line and that nothing can be done from within the party.
Does anyone ( merched ?) know if there are any Plaid/cross party/women's groups dealing with this? I'm in a rural part of Wales and would love to be part of a group raising awareness on the subject but have no idea who to contact.

MerchedCymru · 12/12/2020 02:22

The immediate leap to hyperbole and hysteria by people who have clearly not read the original tweet and have no idea of the context tells its own story.
The woke wing of Plaid (which appears worryingly extensive on twitter but might just consist of 3 men and a dog IRL) have been trying to get HMJ canceled for years. This is just another excuse for their rampant misogyny.
She has our absolute support, individually and collectively.

Mwnci123 · 12/12/2020 00:37

Leanne Wood has a closed Facebook group where they've been dragging Helen for about two years with no sort of self awareness about the fact that they're being a bunch of bullying pricks. I got the sense from the relative public silence on the subject in recent months that Adam Price had basically asked everyone to shut up about it, which was probably a good call politically. Obviously the crybullies have had their way now.

Mwnci123 · 11/12/2020 23:23

I am late to this but so massively fucked off about it. The arse-backward sanctimony of Welsh Twitter over self id was bad enough, but this is wrong in so many ways I hardly know where to start. Also a sodding member but feeling less and less like even voting for the daft fuckers in the senedd elections.

daringdoris · 11/12/2020 22:47

I have sent her a message of support. I'll email Adam Price too, making my position clear. I really think that most Plaid voters, outside the young, woke, twittersphere would agree with Helen-Mary rather than Adam Price.
I'm a bloody member as well! I've made it clear to her (and will to him) that I'm ready to leave the party over this. I don't suppose he will say 'go on then' as the lib dems did, but you never know.
I've met Adam Price, and was impressed with him on a personal level, but once I realised that his young son has an American surrogate mother, I couldn't shake off my feeling that he doesn't really care about women's rights...
I'm really disapointed about this, as I did do my homework before joining, and was led to believe that the feeling within the party was aligned with biology, truth and common sense rather than magical thinking.
I will let you know when/if I hear anything back.

Rosa has every right to point out the offensive nature of JM's analogy, a lot of other Jewish barristers were making the same points at the weekend. No JM, a high court judgement you don't like bears no comparison to the mass genocide of millions of Jewish people - why does that even need to be stated?

This.

Rosa's made a formal complaint to the BBC.

GreenUp · 11/12/2020 01:47

Just catching up with the thread - Rosa's tweet was there earlier. I wonder if she got abuse after her stellar appearance at the Women and Equalities committee meeting yesterday or if the account deletion is related to the Plaid Cymru debacle?

It's disgusting the way that both Rosa and Helen Mary are being treated over this.

I don't understand how that tweet is holocaust denial Confused

mejon · 10/12/2020 23:12

@SirVixofVixHall

What the fuck is he on about ? Rosa is a jewish, lesbian woman, who like many others, found JM’s tweet highly offensive.
I tried to compose a tweet in support of HMJ including this but I'm not eloquent enough and gave up unfortunately.

I shall be contacting AP too. I thought after Leanne Wood he'd be a breath of fresh air, but he's been an utter disappointment with regards this issue.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/12/2020 23:03

I am going to do so too.

LemonSqueezy0 · 10/12/2020 22:38

Has anyone contacted Adam price or PLAID with support for her? I am going to do so.

OldCrone · 10/12/2020 22:17

I don't imagine any of those criticizing her have actually read the original tweet and understood the context.

Here are a couple of replies to Helen Mary Jones's apology on twitter. They don't seem to understand what Rosa Freedman's tweet was about.

Are you going to renounce the transphobia and holocaust denial you endorsed?
twitter.com/spartakusbund18/status/1336750621035294722

Let's also be clear, the retweet was of a view that essentially denied that a particular group of people were targeted by the Nazis. I wonder if the party realises, on top of the transphobia, how serious this additional detail is.

So in that article people are leaving Plaid because of the supposed transphobia, but don’t seem to give a damn about the appropriation of the holocaust, the murder of millions of jewish people including babies and children, plus disabled people, people from other ethnic groups like gypsies, and also homosexuals. All that is fine ??? I am in a fury.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/12/2020 22:13

Can we write to Adam Price ? How on earth does retweeting that comment on an incredibly offensive tweet count as “transphobia” ??
Does Mr Price not realise that Keira won her case ?
