Pretty sure Angela Crawley is one of the ultra-woke SNP?

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 16:02

Rosa: The self-ID regime only works if we have a proper definitions... (Talking about the #nodebate and toxic atmosphere over the last 3 years) How are we going to deal with conflicts of rights if we can't even talk?

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:02

I think Rosa is getting pissed off!

"basically how can we discuss if there is NoDEbate!?"

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 16:00

Yes, Kit, totally. Very gracious. Maybe they are eye-rolling on the inside. Or I'm just doing it for them.

How is it that safeguarding is having to be explained again!!!???

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 15:55

oh god not the old 'oooh you think all trans ppl are dangerous or predatory'

Kathleen - this is about male behaviour

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 15:53

@Deltoids1

Rosa has a great knack of making really quite dry subject matter really interesting.
Yes, it was some of her writing on the original consultation that made most sense to me. Now pointing out "there is no human right to self determine, there is a right of PEOPLES to self-determine. It's an anti-colonialism measure".
ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 15:52

Rosa Freedman

'there is no human right to self determine, there is a right of peoples to self determine' [paraphrasing]

good clarification

Blaming the Government and Judges for failing to address the gaps in legislation.

Whole thing is a mess. Gender identity is totally incompatible with the reality of sex. I'm not comfortable sharing small spaces where I'm vulnerable with people of the same ''gender'' as me. I want to share with people of the same sex.

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 15:49

@PearPickingPorky

Oh thank god. The women have entered the discussion.
Grin

I missed the first half. Kathleen Stock, Rosa Freedman and Alice Sullivan all making calm, rational and clear points. Thanks for speaking, all!

Rosa: Difficult to get a map to say with an organisation does know the law (on single sex exemptions) or whether they're afraid to say they know the law.
Kathleen: need proper data on what service users think in these circumstances. Need to put their experiences front and centre.

LeftHandDown · 09/12/2020 15:47

Kathleen I think, pointed out EHRC is a stonewall champion.

Deltoids1 · 09/12/2020 15:47

Who is the person asking the questions at the moment?

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 15:47

Alice Sullivan now mentioning the rights conflict thrown up in the Scottish legislation currently being discussed.

Deltoids1 · 09/12/2020 15:46

Rosa has a great knack of making really quite dry subject matter really interesting.

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 15:44

Rosa saying we don't have any clarity on the sex based exemptions in the Equality Act and when they are proportionate. Blaming the Government and Judges for failing to address the gaps in legislation.

Shedbuilder · 09/12/2020 15:43

The GC women are really going to town on Stonewall and pointing out how women have been silenced. Given that the previous speakers were all 'it's a moral panic, there's nothing to see here' they're really emphasising the point about why, if self-ID is so reasonable, it cannot be discussed and why women are hounded and attacked for wanting to talk about it.

PearPickingPorky · 09/12/2020 15:42

Oh thank god. The women have entered the discussion.

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 15:39

Lots of good points here, so I'm having trouble picking out the best ones to mention. Definitely worth watching the video back later - I'm not sure where the transcript gets published, Hansard?

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 15:39

YOU DON'T JUST GET TO INFORM SOMEONE OF A CHANGE TO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT, YOU HAVE TO AGREE THAT CHANGE FIRST!!

Absolutely.

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 15:35

Rosa: When women speak out we're told we're transphobic, rather than recognising that we have our own needs and concerns.

stumbledin · 09/12/2020 15:33

Sharpe claiming that all transwomen can have the sex-based exceptions in the Equalities Act. Is there a crowdfunder to get that clarified?

There was a recent statement on this in Parliament, and it isn't true.

The whole point is it was never true but too much Stonewall training has made some people, including some women's groups think it is true.

Dont have time to find the link, but there was a recent thread about this.

Okay - have found time (we really need to have a pinned post so these we can move on from positions already established)

Quote:

It is also important that we protect single-sex spaces in line with the Equality Act 2010. The law is clear that service providers are able to restrict access to single-sex spaces on the basis of biological sex.
