how they are remaining calm I dont know.....

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:36

Blimey that MP just wasn't listening to Rosa or Kathleen. She seemed quite hard of understanding on the points they were making about both the evidence and the meaning of what they were saying.

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:35

fucking love Rosa

how stupid was that woman asking the question

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 16:34

Also noting the mismatch between the apparent intelligence levels and discursive abilities between Stock, Freedman and Sullivan and ...all the others.

Kafka-esque, Rosa, yes, quite.

yes! absence of evidence isnt evidence of absence

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:32

god I'm embarrassed for the women on this committee - have they done any homework on this at all?

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:26

Every other trans policy is like that Kit. Was looking into the West Midlands Police policy on intimate searching amid the row over 'inappropriate' photos of a trans officer and found that their policy is to allow trans officers to carry out searches on people of the sex the officer identifies with, unless that makes the trans officer feel uncomfortable, not the person being intimately searched! Feels like something of a metaphor.

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:22

all the questions are basically 'how can it be made to work better for trans people oh and and women too I guess as an after thought'

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/12/2020 16:22

@GAHgamel

It's a good job we're not playing a drinking game that required taking a drink every time Stonewall was mentioned, because we'd all be paralytic and possibly need getting our stomachs pumped.
Yup. Im assuming it will all be ignored though.

Alice Sullivan - toxicity only from one side

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:18

Well done to Kathleen for mentioning Dentons and stealth tactics for introducing Self-ID in Ireland. How much do women there actually know about what it means? Has anyone asked them? Is anyone keeping track of incidents they may be experiencing. Also Rosa for picking up the point that these (Ireland, Malta etc) aren't countries with a great track record on women's rights.

talesofginza · 09/12/2020 16:18

"Debate is not harmful"
Hear, hear!

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 16:16

Rosa: giving Alex Sharpe a bit of a kicking about bottling out of the Woman's Hour debate.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/12/2020 16:15

Glad Rosa picked up in if it's not a medical condition why does it require medical treatment on NHS?

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 16:15

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Pretty sure Angela Crawley is one of the ultra-woke SNP?
Yes.

It's good that Alice had the stats on how many times Truss had met with groups.

Very effective use of the Stonewall Champion card!

Also killer point from Rosa that if 'transgender' isn't a psychological condition then what are trans people asking the NHS to supply them for free? What is this condition that isn't a condition?

They're being really effective. Impressed. And they've really put the knife into Stonewall.

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:06

hahahaha more prepared to listen to womens groups - on what planet??

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 16:06

Alice: (Quoting YouGov surveys) People's views change quite a bit when it's made clear to them that most transwomen don't have surgery or medical intervention.

GAHgamel · 09/12/2020 16:04

Kathleen: I agree that the Government did not understand what it was doing because it was only listening to one particular view.

Abitofalark · 09/12/2020 16:04

@GAHgamel

SW: "I don't think we should call it spousal consent... it's about informing the spouse about a change in their legal contract" FFS! YOU DON'T JUST GET TO INFORM SOMEONE OF A CHANGE TO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT, YOU HAVE TO AGREE THAT CHANGE FIRST!! (Apologies for the CAPSLOCKING but this annoys me so much).

And now Ruth Pearce is mentioning the risk of this enabling abusive behaviour, which having read the TransWidows' stories makes me wonder if she's not considered the risk from the other direction, or is just conveniently ignoring it.

Ah yes, according to this professor, it's only a legal contract and has no meaning or significance; a legal contract has no weight; there's no obligation or requirement following from entering it.

He's never heard of breach of contract or repudiation of contract and he's never heard of contract law that occupies so much of our courts in lawsuits for breach of contract or enforcement of contractual obligations.

How did a man manage to go through life and remain so ignorant?

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:04

Kathleen: need proper data on what service users think in these circumstances. Need to put their experiences front and centre.

This echos what Manchester Rape Crisis have asked for. No time to consult women. Proper consultation of service users of organisations that provide single sex services needs to take place.
