So grateful to all three of them for staying calm and resolute dealing with some pretty closed minds.

anotherFOIrequester · 09/12/2020 16:59

@Kit19

i also note the male MP was insisting that stonewall gained no advantage even though they had personal meetings with MPs on many occasions

"grown up adults" hahaha burn!

I'd say the ability to get another enquiry opened days after the relevant minister outlined the governtment's intentions was evidence of quite an advantage!

I've been on audio-only and I missed hearing who the man was.
He asked two questions that made it clear that he already had a strong pro-trans position. One was regarding the fact that Liz Truss had had three meetings with trans groups/ representatives and none with women and did they think there had been any prejudice as a result? I would have replied along the lines of not being able to say if it was prejudicial: we have no idea what the outcome would have been if women's voices had been heard. Instead they were all badgered into admitting that it wasn't prejudicial.

And then requiring them to state whether they believed TWAW. A*hole. I do hope the women of his constituency will be down on him like a ton of bricks.

And yes, there seemed to be a large gap between the knowledge and IQ of the witnesses, who were extraordinarily articulate and on the ball, and the committee.

Some lovely pick-ups: was it Rosa who pointed out that one of the the reasons that one of the members of the pro-trans panels wanted self-ID to be a casual affair was because, as they'd explained, lots of people were gender-fluid and non-binary and their identity was likely to change, so they didn't want to be bound by signing up to their new gender for life. That was a major own goal and totally undermined the idea that gender ID is innate and unchanging.

yourhairiswinterfire · 09/12/2020 16:57

You can see clearly why 'the other side' wants no debate, can't you? 😬

PlantMam · 09/12/2020 16:53

Why is Whittle complaining about the law that Whittle pretty much authored Whittleself anyway?

Kit19 · 09/12/2020 16:53

the thing is, no matter what evidence is produced, people like that MP will just hand wave it away because it doenst fit the "most oppressed narrative" they have running in their head

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/12/2020 16:52

What do these people think?

They don't think. They parrot thought terminating clichés and are, sadly, incapable of critical thought.

talesofginza · 09/12/2020 16:51

@ArabellaScott

Dunno, Hecate, she seems really angry that Stock and Freedman didn't have all these stats directly to hand.

This committee is blithering uninformed.

She seemed visibly irritated by the points about male pattern violence translating across to transwomen. What do these people think? That every TW is a latter-day Jesus who has transformed into the virgin Mary? It's bizarre
HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:47

He clearly thinks this is some kind of gotcha

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:46

"Can u each give me your views on whether TWAW or TMAM" ffs

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:45

Alice is doing a great job answering leading questions here.

ChattyLion · 09/12/2020 16:45

Star Star Star Star Star

HecatesCatsInXmasHats · 09/12/2020 16:44

Agree ItsAll, but I think she was doing it because she already has a closed mind and wasn't really prepared to listen, hence after the first time Rosa mentioned the Swedish study she asked again where the evidence was. She's wedded to her course because she's struggling to think critically.

Thingybob · 09/12/2020 16:44

Thank-you Rosa, Kathleen and Alice

Wine Wine Wine

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 16:43

Rosa makes a very good point, that she is there to give her expert opinion, not her personal opinion

"grown up adults" hahaha burn!

There seems to be a lot of trying to make things appear in the minutes, that can be used later.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 09/12/2020 16:42

@Kit19

fucking hell - what have their personal opinions on whether TWAW or TMAM got to do with anything?

they basically want them to say they dont agree so they can disregard what they're saying on the basis its "transphobic"

That is shocking (I'm a bit behind everyone).

Rosa answering very well.

ArabellaScott · 09/12/2020 16:41

'grown up adults do not speak in slogans' - thank you, Alice.

@HecatesCatsInXmasHats

Blimey that MP just wasn't listening to Rosa or Kathleen. She seemed quite hard of understanding on the points they were making about both the evidence and the meaning of what they were saying.
Who was she? She wasn't being hard of understanding at all, she was trying to get it in the record that Rosa et al were lying about tw crime rates, and that there was no evidence.
