Twitter blocklists?

I know there's a 'T*RF blocklist' - I subscribed to it years ago when I still thought 'trans rights' meant 'being treated fairly and not discriminated against due to one's transgender identity' and not 'rewriting reality', and can't undo it now. Is there a blocklist that GC feminists are using, does anyone know? I'm now blocked by several GC accounts despite no interaction and/or being previously able to see them.

(Not the end of the world but I'm curious!)

Thanks! Maybe it’s just me then, but I really can’t think how I would have offended him!

@Whatdoyoudowhendemocracyfails

Request for help - can someone who knows or suspects themselves to be on a TRFBlocker list or similar see if they are blocked by @samcoatessky* ? He’s blocked me which can’t have been something I said as I have never knowingly interacted with him. I’m interested to know if he’s using a blocklist as it somehow feels wrong for a national journalist to be doing so.
I know I’m on an old t**fblocker list (put on before I had any idea what was going on, helped open my eyes to suddenly find myself censured for being a woman) and I’m not blocked by samcoatessky but there are several

@bitheby

I'm blocked by David Paisley and have no idea who this person is.
Actor who tried to get people to complete a survey by sending them nude pictures. I called him out on sending ‘dick picks’ on Twitter - he was NOT best pleased, but didn't actually block me!

I just googled Mr Harrop's to see if the excess of red books meant he supported labour, and his twitter account is closed down with a block list called blockbot in the bio.

I don't recognise many of the accounts on it tbh, apart from Audrey from Suffolk who is lovely Confused

Thelnebriati · 10/12/2020 00:42

I looked at the Twitter page for developers and they might be breaching Twitter guidelines if they don't give you an easy way to unsubscribe.

Hurtandupset2 · 10/12/2020 00:06

I also don't block anyone. I'm not going to die from someone disagreeing with me and I'm not a child, lol. I find people that do pretty sad, tbh.

Yep. Did that ages ago, doesn't undo it.

And just to emphasise I have never tweeted or retweeted anything. I'm blocked simply because of 'likes' and the people I follow.

I'm so glad my twitter name is made up with a burner e-mail account. I'm not even particularly gender critical. India Willoughby for example may well find I agree with some of what she says.

YouNoob · 06/12/2020 18:46

@Alethiometrical

OP I've seen references to the Shimingu Eyes (?) Twitter extension, but worry that downloading it will be a little breadcrumb in the awfulness of TRA doxxing. Is it safe?
Don't do it. It's not worth the hassle. Plus, you really should not trust people on the internet.
littlbrowndog · 06/12/2020 18:25

Am blocked by Clara as well dido

Never even heard of her either

Am on a Terfy blocklists somewhere

VulvaPerson · 06/12/2020 17:50

Name was obviously rather inflammatory though.

VulvaPerson · 06/12/2020 17:47

There was a blocker called cultblocker pro that I remember being talked about once. The reason for using it was not quite the same 'I dont want to see differing opinions' though, it was to stop the mass reporting, once feminists are within the sights of certain TRAs, who then encourage mass reports to get the member banned. Apparently using the blocker, stopped many of the reports and made accounts morer likely to survive. Not sure if thats still 'a thing' though, this was going bac to my twitter days which was years back.

Cailleach1 · 06/12/2020 17:46

@DidoLamenting

Is there a way of checking- beyond checking each individual account of someone irritating and annoying?

A further search on here shows Frankie Boyle had blocked me but like Hines and Fogg it's not permanent and as with Hines I'd be flattered to be permanently blocked by him.

That is a difficult one to get one's head around. Frankie Boyle is identifying as someone who deems someone else unacceptable for some reason.
DidoLamenting · 06/12/2020 17:19

I've just discovered I'm blocked by Clara Vulliamy- whoever she is.

Alethiometrical · 06/12/2020 17:04

Clymene · 06/12/2020 16:22

I assume I'm on a blocklist because I'm blocked by lots of people I've never had anything to do with (Christine Burns for example).

No I don't use a block list and I don't block people I disagree with on twitter either. Because I'm an adult (human female).

Thelnebriati · 06/12/2020 16:09

@SunsetBeetch don't think it's quite that - I've got into trouble several times for 'TERF'-y 'transphobic' things and I wasn't ever vocally pro-TRA - but it's probably something like that, about seeing that people have blocked someone and then going from there. I would be in serious trouble professionally if engaging too much with GC stuff publicly, so I don't mind, I was just curious if there was such a thing. (I think it says a lot that there isn't. There's far more diversity of thought on the GC 'side'.)

@PotholeParadies so many Irish men. SO MANY. Grin

Related to this topic, I downloaded that app/extension that the TRAs encourage using so every user on Twitter and other forums - I think Reddit is one of them - comes up as either neutral, red ('BAD TRANSPHOBE') or green ('GOOD ALLY'). Just to try it out. It is deranged.

We've all learnt a lot about men who talk the talk, haven't we? Grin

SunsetBeetch · 06/12/2020 14:32

I'm not aware of any blocklists used by GC posters against other GC people OR TRAs, no. Sometimes there is some suspicion that someone could be a troll or a TRA pretending to be GC, and the word gets spread. Could be that? Especially if you were previously pro TRA.

MondayYogurt · 06/12/2020 13:57

Does changing username make a difference?

@RealityNotEssentialism

OP, I know you have changed your mind now but what made you sign up to a TERF-blocker in the first place? Were you also signed up to a Racism-blocker, sexism-blocker, ageism-blocker, anti-semitism blocker and ableism-blocker?

The reason I ask is that it seems the trans issue is the only one where people literally cannot tolerate to see any dissent from their own view. TERF-blocker doesn’t block actual transphobes (the types on KiwiFarms and the like). Instead it focuses on women and anyone following an account that is gender critical.

I’m just interested in why people can’t bear to see any disagreement about trans issues but will tolerate seeing other discrimination.

I don’t think that many GC accounts use a blocklist and if they do it’s to prevent abuse and doxxing. But if I see that someone has blocked me I will usually block back.

The 'other issue' I mentioned was abortion and it was in the lead up to and during the Irish Repeal the 8th campaign (I'm Irish). When you keep getting 'baby murderer' in your mentions from random middle-aged American Christian men, it starts to seem like a good idea.

If people had recommended any other blocklists after that, I'd probably have run with it (I don't use the thing to have fights with strangers, it's not productive) - but the TERFblocker one was the priority for them. (Which of course is telling.) For a short while, like many many many left-leaning women, I bought into the narrative that trans discrimination was the biggest and worst thing ever. I don't anymore. The way in which it's leveraged to be a dick to women was one of the key things that pushed me away from it, even before diving into the shaky evidence.
