Time for a new thread. Please can someone c&p the header post? (Am on phone.)

Me too. I suppose it could have been an imposter with a very similar name or maybe life just happened and she was not able to get back. I was surprised that the thread disappeared.

OldCrone · 06/01/2021 11:13

@YetAnotherSpartacus

The OP had posted on FWR before - a familiar username - although I cannot remember the content of their posts (assuming we are talking about the same thread).
If it's the one I'm assuming it is which was deleted this morning, the OP has been posting here for months, so I was surprised that she'd started a thread and then just disappeared.
CaraDuneRedux · 06/01/2021 10:55

It's a difficult one. For instance, a 16 year old who's got pregnant by accident and decided to keep the pregnancy might turn to MN for help and advice, and that would be perfectly understandable and legitimate (though I'd hope MNHQ would keep a close eye on the thread in case of online bullying - which there would be: the "teen mums scrounging for benefits" trolls would be on it like flies round a jampot).

On the other hand, a 16 year old posting for, say, sex tips - pull that thread ASAP.

There's going to be a whole middle ground in between which would be very difficult, e.g. teen in abusive relationship asking for advice (again, could attract creeps, but where else are they going to go); teen asking for advice on binding (I view that as a form of self-harm and would hope MN would pull the thread, but you don't know...)

I feel very sorry for the MN mods on this one - it must be a nightmare. On the whole I think they do pretty well - they tend to pull threads which need to be pulled. Which is why reporting ones which seem like the wrong side of the line (e.g. a troubled teen asking for advice in what actually looks like a form of self-harm type of way - kind of inviting harsh replies so she can say "look, the Karens don't understand and they're meeeaaan") is important. MN can't make the judgement call if they don't know the thread is there.

Thanks Cara, agree entirely. Just not sure what MNHQ line is regards children posting here.

CaraDuneRedux · 06/01/2021 10:42

@ArabellaScott

I think we have some very young visitors to the board lately. Maybe vulnerable. Not sure of the protocol.
Don't bite, report.

I don't think it's appropriate to interact with young people online (your motives may be pure - but it creates a culture in which unrelated adults interacting with underage teens becomes normalised which I think is very dangerous). They need to be encouraged to seek help in RL.

Interestingly, I'm not picking up a "trawling for screenshots" vibe, I'm picking up a very old-school "trolling for attention" vibe. I think the sort of troll who used to haunt e.g. the bereavement boards has realised this is a hot button topic, and that they can get lots of "that must be so hard for you", "I can see why you're so worried for your DD" type attention from the unwary.

I think the school thread has been deleted.

nauticant · 06/01/2021 09:53

The "that happened" thread is like catnip to some posters. My thought was "yes, I assumed this would animate you".

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 06/01/2021 09:18

Definitely, sitting on hands though Grin

CaraDuneRedux · 06/01/2021 09:15

Anyone else opening threads, taking one look at OP, and thinking "Aye, that happened..."

Look out for Body Shop emails asking why you haven't opened their messages for a while. They link to a survey in which you can inform them exactly why you aren't buying from them any more.

Happy new year vipers.

CatsCantCatchNewYear2 · 31/12/2020 22:01

Happy new year everyone (I'm off to bed!)

nauticant · 31/12/2020 21:50

Happy New Year all. Here's to 2021 being the year when The Right Side of History looks like a Christmas Tree still sat in the corner of the living room in March looking more tawdry with each passing day.

Angryresister · 31/12/2020 20:20

Can’t keep up at all...

NotBadConsidering · 31/12/2020 20:16

Nickelodeon thread gone too. How is a thread discussing safeguarding, exploitation of children for tv, and stereotypes “hostile” to any group?ConfusedHmm

SophocIestheFox · 31/12/2020 20:07

@CaraDuneRedux

Is it too early to make the "weasily distinguishable and stoatily different" joke?
It’s never too early or too late for that joke Grin
TheChampagneGalop · 31/12/2020 18:25

Naked mole rat award Grin Very apt.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 31/12/2020 17:57

Maybe it should have been stoat...or ferret awards

Or naked mole rat

Perhaps it was the weasel word...someone at MNHQ might have a fondness for weasel

Try again errol ....with stoat

ArabellaScott · 31/12/2020 17:39

Bravo, Errol!

ErrolTheDragon · 31/12/2020 15:45

My first deleted thread! I can't remember having a post deleted since the 'misgendering Donald Trump' incident which must have been >4 years ago so I guess it was about time I took one for the team.
