Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

Well the truly ladylike thing to to would be get a man to do it surely Wink

Just report them and move on..no ones listening to wpuk...are they....an awful lot of worrying over what we are constantly told is nothing....Confused

@Whatwouldscullydo

Oh god...surely by now those goal posts are getting a bit too heavy to keep moving around when proven wrong...
Surely it's more ladylike to say "Shifting the lacrosse posts"?

(Happiest Days of Your Life is one of my favourite films).

My god the desperation.
I went to a wpuk meeting in 2019, it was wonderful and I met some brilliant women there.

titchy · 28/11/2020 14:30

Yes but they are registered, usually both as charities and as companies limited by guarantee. WPUK don't appear to be either unless something has changed recently.

They don't need to be either a charity or a company limited by guarantee. Plenty of groups are unincorporated. It's perfectly legitimate and in no way suggests they are tax evading. Presumably your knowledge on such matter is non-existent?

Kit19 · 28/11/2020 14:26

Im sure if someone thinks there’s been a breach of HMRC rules by WPUK they can flag it up with HMRC

I mean that would be the responsible thing to do right? Rather than making insinuations.....

"I have no idea." JJ 2020

Shocked, I tell you, shocked.

OvaHere · 28/11/2020 14:21

I'm pretty confident however they are managing finances it will be legitimate considering how much scrutiny they come under and how desperate some people are for them to make a misstep.

How is anyone coming up with £50k per year? It looks like a £42k difference between income and expenditure. Take away the quarantined £5k and that means it's about 12k a year as 'profit'.
I'm no accountant so I may have this all wrong.

@calllaaalllaaammma

Charities don't pay tax on most types of income as long as they use the money for charitable purposes.

JJ I’m an FCA with 20 plus years experience including substantial experience in Charities Accounts. I will contact them on Monday to ask if they need any assistance which I would provide free of charge.

SophocIestheFox · 28/11/2020 14:17

I liked that, too ova Smile

DeaconBoo · 28/11/2020 14:16

jj is the poster, who, when I assured them for the sake of complete clarity that I wouldn't be attempting to report any of jj's hate incidents, read it as the total opposite - a threat that I would.

You can't say black is black without jj making some insinuation that it's white after all, unless the wrong people say it's white, in which case perhaps it's green and we can never really know, maybe do a Twitter poll?

(I say this in the spirit of community debate based on jj's posts, not as a character assassination or anything)

I thought it was great they've donated excess money this year (due to no physical meetings) to women's services. They are also encouraging their supporters to due the same during Covid in lieu of donating to them.

Classic bait and switch, JJ. Classic 🤣

“These GC groups are funded by the far right!”

WP publish details of funding and spending. No shady far right connection appears.

“I bet they aren’t paying their taxes!”

Fucking hell. It won’t take long before that’s an article of faith, too.

Anyway, returning to something far less boring than smearing, it tickles me immensely to see Lush on there Grin

DialSquare · 28/11/2020 14:14

This has just reminded me to make another donation. Thanks. Before anyone asks, I have only ever voted Labour (although politically homeless atm) and have no affiliation with any far right groups. Just a concerned woman with a decent disposable income willing to support causes focused on women and children.

MichelleofzeResistance · 28/11/2020 14:12

There's less actual suspicion about their funding than a desperation to discredit them and prevent their words and actions having impact by slinging any and all mud at them in the hope that something might stick.

WeeBisom · 28/11/2020 14:10

What, exactly, is the problem with their funding? I imagine, seeing as they are not a charity, they are an unincorporated association - in other words, they manage their finances in exactly the same way as political parties, clubs, and societies.

Gncq · 28/11/2020 14:06

I'm sure WPUK pay taxes if taxes are due, and it's obvious they aren't funded by the religious far right, so both accusations are dead in the water, shall we move on now?

MichelleofzeResistance · 28/11/2020 14:03

I'm sure anyone concerned for WPUK could contact them to check they're aware of all their obligations. And I'm sure WPUK will be very polite to them and happy to reassure any worries they may have.

OverThinkingUnderDoing · 28/11/2020 14:02

The Lush charity pots are so random. The last time I was in Lush (admittedly about 4 years ago) it was the Guildford branch and they were raising money to find alternatives to the South Devon Bypass. A road that had very nearly finished completion by that point and was in no way related to anything in Surrey.

jj1968 · 28/11/2020 14:01

@titchy

Oh well thats fine then. I'll have to try that as an excuse for not declaring my income on my next tax return.

Is there any evidence anywhere that they are tax evaders? Or do you need some gloves for the straws you're grasping at?

Not grasping, I have no idea. It just seems strange for an organisation that is trading with a reasonable turnover to not appear to have any formal structure.
