Isn't he regarded as transphobic for refusing to use compelled speech and warning of the consequences (and proven right by Yaniv). Seems like the woke at Random House publishing are appalled that their business is based on making a profit. Peterson may not be your glass of tea but he's hardly Goebals.

Let’s burn the books! 🙄

I dunno what the economic projections for Canada are looking like (they have handled covid way better than us) but in the UK unemployment is projected to hit over 10% next year.

I would suggest this might be a very bad time to leave your employer with the impression that you were a whiny overgrown toddler with no grasp on either the key values of the job (support for free speech being pretty fundamental) or the source of your industry's profits.

I don't personally think that much of Peterson: to my mind he's the "non-thinking man's intellectual." But he's entitled to express his views, and he has an enormous following.

Imagine crying at work, and expecting to make a point, get your own way.

Jobs in those prestigious publishing houses are like gold dust.

Veggie waitresses have to serve meat dinners and get on with it .

I really think some people have so few actual problems in their lives that they feel the need to create imaginary ones.

Who cries in front of their employer because they won't ban a book from an author you dislike? 🙄

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 26/11/2020 15:05

Funny that you should mention Goebbels, OP - Penguin publish a translation of Mein Kampf.

This book banning nonsense is crazy and I hope Penguin pay it no more mind than they have already.

Whether or not we like Peterson or his books, if they can be banned because some people don't like them, then basically every book can be.

WarOnWomen · 26/11/2020 15:03

Crying about an author being published.

Really? They can't cope with someone having a different viewpoint?

It's like the toddlers never grew up.

Yes he is regarded as trans phobic, but he has always said he is happy to address trans people by their preferred pronouns. His objection was to Canada making it a hate crime to misgender/not use a trans person’s preferred pronouns. So in other words, he’s not against using different pronouns, just against it being legislated and criminalised.

VulvaPerson · 26/11/2020 14:53

Can't stand Peterson, and disagree with much of what he says. However, trying to ban him from being heard is just silly. Plus, why have they not realised yet, that when they try to ban books, it gives the books more publicity, and makes people who would otherwise not care very interested in them, resulting in MORE of the book being sold, not less. This has been obvious, by the results of them previously trying this shit, yet they do it again and again, presumably expecting different results as I cannot see that deep down they want the authors/books to be more popular?!

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 26/11/2020 14:53

Actually, Cancel Culture cry-babies is much better!

CatsCantCatchCriminals2 · 26/11/2020 14:52

Cancel Culture creeps is all they are.

TweeBree · 26/11/2020 14:51

The reaction on social media and in a lot of the mainstream media has been pretty savage to the cry babies.

Deliriumoftheendless · 26/11/2020 14:49

"They’re not going to acknowledge the reason they're doing it is for money“ says someone who maybe used to think book publishing was about curing cancer and bringing about world peace.

RealityNotEssentialism · 26/11/2020 14:48

Ridiculous. They should try having some actual problems. I don’t like Jordan Peterson but he’s allowed to hold the views he likes. Also he has a huge following and writes clearly, so the book will sell. It’s a bit like when the woke crew told us to boycott JK Rowling and buy some books by trans writers instead. The problem is that people want to read JK’s books and they’re not going to stop doing that just because some people disagree with JK’s views. Same with Jordan Peterson I would imagine.
