Jo Maugham (@JolyonMaugham) Tweeted:
"We waited some weeks for the BBC to be ready to cover our legal action to protect the legal rights of trans children. And the piece is up and is quite extraordinary. I'm not going to link to it because it is inaccurate and gives space to a transphobic hate group." twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/status/1330758709140729856?s=20

Which I assume refers to this piece:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55015959

And he says this about LGB Alliance, which feels stupidly for a lawyer libellous: The third point is they have quoted the so-called LGB Alliance - a dark money funded astro-turfed hate group - on the healthcare of trans teenagers. What next? Will the BBC be quoting white supremacists on whether sickle cell anaemia should be treated on the NHS?

@Gingernaut

Um. This might get my post deleted, but this cropped up.
I don't think this speculation is very fair. It is enough to know that he has a personal stake in this, explaining some of his irrational behaviour. It isn't necessary to know or speculate his relationship to this individual.

His latest tweet thread is just continuing the spiraling in. Now anyone who is not down with the youngsters has become their parents, and any husband listening to the females in his life who don’t agree with the youngsters on the issue are without independent thought. Blah blah blah.

HecatesCats · 23/11/2020 21:24

"If you are a man and the reality of your engagement with equality issues is that you..." actually bother to listen to a woman telling you how she thinks and feels, she is likely a siren or a harpy, or a mad old bat. Run away, run away!

Lumene

Jennifer Bilek on Twitter is pretty good on this twitter.com/bjportraits/status/1330591811035930627?s=20

As far as I understand, much funding comes from people like Martine Rothblatt and Jennifer Pritzker. Also funding from pharmaceutical companies eg. Stryker Corp to Arcus Foundation and then back to Stryker Corp via medical bills. Also, the Kennedy Foundation who tried to denounce JKR in the summer have direct links to Denton's law firm, who are also involved in the Igylo document advising that laws such as self-id should be masked by covering them with popular laws such as marriage equality (Ireland given as an example). Igylo's ex-co chair is Anna Robinson who administers the UK government's LGBT All Party Parliamentary Group.

It's all very murky and incestous imo.

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 21:15

I’ve found out

WouldBeGood · 23/11/2020 21:04

Is it a bad idea to engage on Twitter?

HDDD · 23/11/2020 20:44

And now he's appropriating the word tribe...will he get cancelled for that? Probably not

Tanith · 23/11/2020 20:22

@RoyalCorgi

The LGBA was founded by people like Simon Fanshawe and Allison Bailey. Quite a stretch to call it an "Astroturf" organisation.

But I suppose once again this is an example of DARVO - TRAs have very dodgy sources of funding, so they accuse their political opponents of having dodgy sources of funding. etc etc.

There has been such a concerted attack on LGB Alliance that it made me think they must trying to divert attention away from something else.
Lumene · 23/11/2020 20:10

Do they? Is there evidence of this?

MaudTheInvincible · 23/11/2020 19:50

Yes. Deflect and project, project and deflect.

Yup, he gets wide ranging support (and 10%) from all these crowd funders. The NHS is sacrosanct to so many and taking money off them - well, let's sit back and watch it play out.

Tootsweets23 · 23/11/2020 19:14

Narcissism is a dreadful curse.

GeorgiaMcGraw · 23/11/2020 19:10

@HDDD i agree. It is a mad argument to most people - taking a child abroad for gender reassignment surgery, it's like a bad joke from a Will & Grace episode, but without the humour, and with lifelong consequences for kids. Trying to make the nhs pay for some potentially dodgy surgery is going to be a red flag for people, including those uninitiated in The Debate.

yourhairiswinterfire · 23/11/2020 19:00

@HDDD

I reckon he's going to lose some support for going after the NHS (good)
In the middle of a global pandemic where even cancer patients are having their treatment delayed, no less.
Duckwit · 23/11/2020 18:54

@CrazyToast

What happened to Joylon? A couple of years ago he donated £100 to the campaign run by Jennifer James to keep All-women shortlists female. Sure, he then withdrew it after the predictable reaction but I exchanged a few messages with him about the issue and he was cordial and receptive. Such a change.
Really?!!!

GeorgiaMcGraw · 23/11/2020 18:38

@crazytoast To me, it smacks of a desperate parent trying to justify his choices....he's in deep now and won't allow any thought in his head that suggests he may have made a mistake, or that childhood transition is ever wrong.

ArabellaScott · 23/11/2020 18:37

It must be very difficult for parents to hear all the bullshit statistics pushed by the likes of Stonewall and not be terrified that your child is at risk of suicide. A horrible situation to be in. Let's very much hope for evidence-based care becoming the norm with the NHS.

Wbeezer · 23/11/2020 18:35

I've said it on here (FWR) before re suicide but the only trans young person I've come across in person in our small town committed suicide shortly after starting uni, despite having a lot of support transitioning socially by family friends and school and uni.

Clymene · 23/11/2020 18:33

Yes I think it's a desperate 'look over there' to avoid discussing the Fox incident which makes him come across as a right wing vicious lunatic.

Perfect Darvo though - accusing GC groups of astroturfing when WPATH has very clear links with big pharma.

He's a man who likes to be right regardless of whether he is right or not (see also Owen Jones). Right think on Twitter only goes in one direction due to the way it's run and who it's run by so in order to be the rightest of all right people Jolyon needed to atone then double down.

It's also a handy comeback from fox bashing on Boxing Day. You can't be cancelled for deeds if you think the right things.

The right thing in this case seem to be framing the sterilisation of children as a human rights issue but one in the opposite direction to which sterilisation of any group has so far been viewed in history.

We certainly live in interesting times.

VulvaPerson · 23/11/2020 17:46

Thanks. Been going on so long now that its just 'normal' for me now though tbh. It just really annoys me this 'transpeople have to wait 2 years! its discrimination!' nonsense, when its everywhere, even with condition that have a HUGELY detrimental affect on peoples lives. Its shit, I get that. But its not only that one group that its happening to. Infact, from what I have read, it almost seems like wait lists for trans related stuff are better than for other things.
