Planned Parenthood jumps the shark

Planned Parenthood have posted:

Part of observing #TransAwarnessWeek is acknowledging that the use of woman-centric language in reproductive & abortion advocacy is erasure of trans health care.

^Not all women can get pregnant, and women aren't the only people who get pregnant.

Not all women menstruate, and women aren't the only people who menstruate.

Cisgender women aren't the only people who get abortions.^

twitter.com/ppadvocacyma/status/1329482401781833732?s=21

I do hope someone asks what proportion of their national audience for these services is trans, what proportion don't have English as a first language and if neurodiversity plays any part in their thinking. For the sake of inclusivity. How many women are they in fact excluding with this shift in language?

Americans like to ask why the UK is a hotbed of GC feminism. But why are Americans so intent on robbing women of their rights? The right to name themselves, to single sex spaces, to single sex sports and so on. What went wrong over there?

^“Planned Parenthood are actively supporting abusive misogyny on that thread by not speaking out. The language is therefore not neutral. At all. Planned Parenthood are colluding.”^

Exactly this. That is the time the adult needs to step into the room and say ‘hang on a minute’. They need to take some responsibility for their own content and be prepared for disagreement, not just drop the bomb and bugger off.

creation of a new order in which only the Most Oppressed have rights.

See: counter elite as a concept.

And see: the most oppressed had bloody well better do what they're told or else.

@NiceGerbil

'The other 70 million + have the right to vote plus media, universities, third sector, medical establishment etc etc etc on their side. Those are the people that make decisions. The decision in this case being to erase women as a class.'

That's a pretty big statement.

This stuff is not even known by most people.

The idea that in the USA 70 milion plus all the other bits have had a good think and decided. Let's erase women as a class. Is scaremongering.

People voted the way they did they and now for whatever reasons.

If we must talk about the USA then it's a two party right wing either way choice with neither way giving a shit about women except when it helps them sound strong/ nice etc.

In the UK. Which I'm more familiar with. Being not American etc. (Why do we have to keep talking about America?). No parties stand for women.

We have our fight here.

I'm perfectly happy to talk to USA posters but please remember. We are thousands of miles away with a totally different culture. Cultures. We are a group of countries. Who to be honest have quite enough to be going on with.

If people are upset or whatever about people in the USA voting for trump. Go and talk to them.

The increasing influx of USA posters who are. I dunno. Just being totally tone deaf is increasingly getting on my tits.

I'm British with one foot in the US. It is myopic to say we focus only on what is going on in theUK. America's cultural imperialism is partly why we women have the problems we have with regard to the TRA lobby's attempts to erase our rights today in the UK.

And yes, @leafinthewind, neo-Marxism. A world view where every interaction is seen through the lens of oppressor and oppressed, leading to the creation of a new order in which only the Most Oppressed have rights.

MichelleofzeResistance · 22/11/2020 08:00

I don't think that they sit around saying hey. Let's start calling women and girls ovulators, menstruators, vulva people, vagina owners, uterus havers, people with front holes etc etc

I'm afraid five minutes on that planned parenthood Twitter thread makes it very clear how very gleefully enjoyable some of those activists are finding their provoking and degrading females. They absolutely delight in it. The 'cry me a river' childish nastiness is staggering in how extreme it is, it's a very infantile version of the kind of arse who shouts sexual comments at women in the street until they get a glare and then shout back their enjoyment of control and abuse and seeing that she hates it but can't escape them with the "you're beautiful when you're angry darling" line.

These kind of posters are not well or at all appropriately behaved people, these are people with serious problems. And it is quite obvious they are getting off on having found a way to unleash this kind of very inappropriate nastiness to meet their own needs, that doesn't lead to disapproval from others. It reminds me of a bunch of kids with a weak teacher who have reached the point of riot because of the lack of boundaries, but yes, it's absolutely intentional to degrade and attack the language for women and hopefully to see women show some emotion about this because of all the lovely power and reward involved. And these posters are not a few rare voices in this thread and hundreds of others, they are the massively dominant voices and often the only voices representing the community they claim to speak for. The time when this could be excused as these are just a few extremists is rapidly passing; particularly when these extremists are the ones directly speaking to and engaging with and supporting actions such as Planned Parenthood is taking. Planned Parenthood are actively supporting abusive misogyny on that thread by not speaking out. The language is therefore not neutral. At all. Planned Parenthood are colluding.

Lundy Bancroft could write a library on posters like these, and their ridiculously stupid enablers.

WarOnWomen · 22/11/2020 07:43

I think it's important to keep an eye on America and discuss the issues there because we in UK don't exist in a bubble. Lots of the thinking from over there have made inroads here and continuing to do so. Critical Race Theory being one, for example. It's grown out of a unique American historical experience but the ideas are being imported. Well, all identity politics really.

NiceGerbil · 22/11/2020 01:32

True vulva.

I think that it doesn't even occur to any of these groups to relabel men. I don't think that they sit around saying hey. Let's start calling women and girls ovulators, menstruators, vulva people, vagina owners, uterus havers, people with front holes etc etc but let's definitely not do that with men because reasons or because we're bastards who hate women.

I think they get pressure from outside groups to change their language for women and they say yeah that's more inclusive. And it never crosses their minds that men are still men.

Rather than. Scrotum owners. Ejaculatory. Semen producers. Penis people. People with a rear hole only. Etc etc...

The hole stuff fucked me off so much. Biologically inaccurate. Men have called us holes forever. Etc.

Would men be ok with being referred to as single hole, rear? I'm guessing. Not so much...

VulvaPerson · 22/11/2020 00:49

Again I wonder where are all the male centred healthcare orgs and such bending over backwards to mark 'trans awareness week' by declaring men prostate havers and such? Always fucking womens stuff attacked..

leafinthewind · 21/11/2020 19:19

"Neo-Marxism," Sebastian?!? Hmm

SebastianTheCrab · 21/11/2020 17:24

@leafinthewind

"I can't possibly see where you've extrapolated that from."

74m Americans voted for Trump.

I take your point. I agree that no one deserves our vote if they can't back our interests. But my woke, liberal friends, who are harming by omission, are less dangerous to me than my blind, right wing enemies who are harming on purpose. Vast tracts of the American Right would genuinely prefer us barefoot and pregnant.

My woke friends (real ones, not rhetorical ones) are afraid that the Right will annul their marriages, cancel their pensions, and remove their healthcare (they're mostly East Coast, over-educated lesbians). They know that other people (like trans people) share those fears and so they embrace them. It doesn't make my woke friends bad people - but their language has been captured by bad people. I think that language capture will have to be fought here in the UK. In the US, they have other pressing problems that they're attending to right now.

I guess we'd agree that this isn't about Left and Right. It's about women and our interests - which are many and various and not well aligned with Left/Right politics. I'd STILL take Biden over Trump or Cruz or Rubio or Pence.

But they've had 4 years of Trump and none of that happened - he didn't take away their right to get married etc.

And the fact that 74 million people voted for him is irrelevant. The only power those people have is through the ballot box - and this year they didn't even have that. The other 70 million + have the right to vote plus media, universities, third sector, medical establishment etc etc etc on their side. Those are the people that make decisions. The decision in this case being to erase women as a class.

Meanwhile the Trump supporters voted for Trump in the first place precisely because they don't see themselves represented in any of the liberal, middle-class-dominated bodies that rule their lives and are going so off piste in terms of critical race theory, Neo-Marxism and gender ideology.

NiceGerbil · 21/11/2020 16:51

'Some women don’t identify as women and no matter how silly I think this is personally, I think it’s ok for orgs to use “women and trans men” or “women and anyone with female biology”.'

Problem is that's not what they seem to want.

HecatesCats · 21/11/2020 16:37

@FWRLurker

Actually I think it is fine on events / days specifically meant to honor trans people to make statements like this, provided clear language is used in other communications.

Some women don’t identify as women and no matter how silly I think this is personally, I think it’s ok for orgs to use “women and trans men” or “women and anyone with female biology”.

But they don't do that. They ditch women altogether in favour of adjectives no woman actually uses to describe herself. Therefore how do women's identities fit in this broad church? (Nb it's not a broad church).
OP posts:
FWRLurker · 21/11/2020 16:29

That follow on is awful though

“Reproductive health care” could as easily be about men’s health. We need to be able to talk about female biology sometimes

When are we going to have an Adult Female Human Week...?

Off at a tangent here, but who decides or creates these things? Is there a reason we can't have that?

terryleather · 21/11/2020 14:10

PP have funding from the billionaire Pritzker family and have been going down this path for a while now.
As ever, follow the money....

"There are many more Americans who are dangerous to women on the Christian right than the woke left."

The 'always keep a hold of nurse for fear of meeting someone worse' argument.

When the woke left are reduced to having to try to paint it as 'ok, we hate you but vote for us anyway because they hate you more', it's past time for a lot of gardening leave.

SebastianTheCrab · 21/11/2020 12:06

"There are many more Americans who are dangerous to women on the Christian right than the woke left." @leafinthewind

I can't possibly see where you've extrapolated that from. The left is currently far more powerful (and vocal) than the right - in the US at least - through total institutional capture. From media companies to universities, medical facilities to sports bodies.

Which means that people are much more comfortable publicly chastising the right than they are the left - which is dangerous. The left think they can never be wrong purely by virtue of being on the left. (That's partly why Labour became so completely subsumed by anti-semitism.)

Yet it is the left is currently campaigning for the erasure of women in language, sports and politics and the violation of women through prostitution and surrogacy. And they're being applauded for it. I know which I fear more.

I also note that successive Democratic administrations have never enshrined Roe vs Wade in any kind of legislation. (On a side note, the entire US system is pitched more to the right than the UK's - Democrats are actually more in line with Conservatives. It was originally Democrats who opposed abolition of slavery. I would wager plenty of them today aren't pro-choice at all.)

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/11/2020 11:55

I just got around to reading that Twitter thread. It's... rather eye opening to put it mildly. It is hard to think anyone, including Planned Parenthood, reading that thread and seeing the appalling attitudes being expressed towards other people and women in particular, the worrying level of maturity and stability, the gleefully violent ideation spoken without the faintest inhibition or self awareness, and appropriacy of the behavioural skills being demonstrated by those supporting this 'inclusive' language on their thread, could read that without having some serious concerns.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/11/2020 22:28

A follow on tweet in that thread.

They're tacitly acknowledging that it's just mealy-mouthed virtue signalling because saying "women" for female people is verboten.

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/11/2020 22:13

Thread's full of children, too.

NiceGerbil · 20/11/2020 19:48

I think the term abortion care doesn't work as a phrase at all.

A lot of this new language is unsuited to what it's for before you even get onto the rest of the issues

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/11/2020 19:32

I think the best answer to that tweet is probably: No. Go well. Smile

highame · 20/11/2020 19:28

Once we get used to the fact that 'everyone's' rights are transphobic, we'll be fine
