www.rightwingwatch.org/post/rick-wiles-calls-on-pennsylvanians-to-rise-up-and-chase-transgender-health-secretary-out-of-the-state/

The Pennsylvania health secretary who is trans has introduced a mask mandate. The response of this right wing news site is this.

“Chase that freak out of the state,” Wiles bellowed. “Chase it out of the state. Rise up in Pennsylvania, and chase that freak out of the state! You don’t have to tolerate this stuff.”

This “news organisation” has been invited to Trump’s White House multiple times.

Just a few weeks ago, Rick Wiles asked his guest whether the “transgender movement gets its origin in Zionism."

I know many GC MNers try to apply British views to America and say they’d back Republicans because of the trans issue. I think many are unaware or naive about how much more regressive the right wing is in general and how their anti trans positions often go hand in hand with racism, anti-Semitism, anti-science conspiracy theories, etc.

I'm a US citizen that lived in the UK for 14 years. I don't know what happened to my country. All of my friends and family are filled with hate. They hate Republicans. They think Republicans are evil Nazi murderers. If I even suggest that there aren't 70 million racists they act like I've just said that the sky is red. They haven't heard another point of view for years. The New York Times, The Washington Post. It's a steady steam of propaganda. They think that right wing terrorism is a huge danger. One of my friends had her art gallery burned down by left wing protesters but she can't see the problem. Beautiful paintings were destroyed but she thinks it was a good thing.

Jeremy Corbyn famously announced his pronouns at the start of a speech. Jeremy Corbyn was suspended by the Labour party for anti-Semitism. Ergo, anyone who announces their pronouns is aligning themselves with the Labour party’s anti-Semitism.

Or something something.

Anyway I didn't mean to send out a bat signal, signing off from this one.

HecatesCats · 20/11/2020 19:08

Here we go again, a whole bag of straw men: tiny bunch of nobodies, but aligned with US Republicans & evangelicals Confused, conservative homophobes, bigots, etc etc etc etc if there's only a handful of GC women causing a nuisance, why are you on here every other day trying to convince us of wrong think?

Oh look - here's jj - and as usual, criticising women. Never misses an opportunity Hmm
No not criticising women, criticising the very small number of people in the gender critical movement, not all of them women, who have collaborated with the conservative right.

You do understand the difference don't you in criticising someone for their views and criticising someone because of the sex they belong to?

I wonder if there's just four or five posts ready to paste in rotation on every thread? Certainly get that impression.

Baroness Nicholson voted against gay marriage in 2003

She was a Lib Dem at the time, wasn't she? So I'm not sure what relevance that has to whether GC feminists are in any way aligned with US conservatives.

(It doesn't, and they aren't)

Yeah, that’s this thread gone for a burton now. It’ll divert into the usual disquisition on Why You’re All Wrong About Everything, You Poopyheads, and many pixels will be spent on rambling meanders away from the point, and baseless accusations of general witchcraft and uppitiness.

@17thEarlOfOxford

Baroness Nicholson voted against gay marriage in 2003, when it passed, and has not subsequently opposed it. Is is a lie to say that she is "outspokenly anti gay marriage".
She claimed earlier this year that she voted against gay marriage because she believed it would degrade women and that she thinks that is now happening.
jj1968 · 20/11/2020 18:17

Basically a lesbian with "outspoken" views on gay marriage is fine, but a straight (apologies to Baroness N if I'm incorrect) woman expressing this opinions is not ok. Especially if they are on the political right

Do you not think there is a difference between a straight person opposed to gay marriage on ideological grounds and a lesbian questioning why other lesbians might want to get married?

HecatesCats · 20/11/2020 17:47

Same old, same old

jj1968 · 20/11/2020 17:31

@HecatesCats

Is that you jj? Because this all feels really familiar.
No of course its not me, I only post under this name.

They are right though, UK GC activists have collaborated with groups like WOLF, the Heritage Foundation and hands Across the Aisle. And it's not just in the states. Transgender Trend, Posie Parker and Harry Miller have all appeared in a video produced by a shockingly antisemitic website. The much lauded Baroness is outspokenly anti gay marriage. GC activists have worked with the right of the Tory Party including anti-abortion advocates like David Davies. Even Liz Truss is pretty far to the right economically and on her attitude to workplace rights and things like pay gap reporting. And frequently misogynist men considerably further to the right than much of the Tory Party like Douglas Murray, Jordan Peterson, Brendan O Neil, Toby Young and Roy Liddle have all been applauded for their articles and thoughts on trans people. A lot of the language used by GC people, the obsession with wokeness and blue haired millenials comes from the alt right and we're increaingly seeing other alt right talking point like nonsense about critical race theory being slipped into discussions. Whilst I would not agree at all that everyone involved in the GC movement supports this it's pretty undeniable that there are strong links between a lot of GC people to the conservative right, religious right, alt right and even in some cases far right. Something could have possibly been done about that in the early days but it's too late now and as more and more moderates peel away it's only likely to get worse.

happygolurkey · 20/11/2020 14:54

by the way those comments from this Rick Wiles are repellent

happygolurkey · 20/11/2020 14:47

At the same time, I recognise that people will always vote for what directly benefits them
Like Caitlyn Jenner? A long-term supporter of the Republicans. Admits voting for Trump in 2016 then 'revokes' support some time later over bathroom use row. So, didn't give two hoots about his vile racism, disgusting language he used toward immigrants, inhumane policies towards them, or his misogyny, or the horrendous allegations women have made against him. I take it Jenner was on board with all that.

If agreeing with your opponents opinion on one single thing means you are 'aligning' with them does that mean transgender activists are aligning with the right in the UK? Since it was the Tory's idea to bring self id in?
I've seen a couple of people hint at what you suggest OP (not on mumsnet) but to say 'many gc feminists on MN would back Trump because of trans issues' I don't think is true. I've not seen that

EarthSight · 20/11/2020 14:15

There are a lot of posts here that aren’t acknowledging there’s a bit of ignorance and laziness due to distance - well it’s not my country but they speak my language and I read about it in the Independent so I’m informed enough. You’re not

Wow. Who's still reading the Independent?? They went down the pan years ago when they went online. From what I remember of the time (before I eventually stopped reading it), there were so many spelling errors, poorly written articles that sounded as if they were written by teenagers, many trashy & tacky click-bait style articles and a surprising amount of articles focusing on degenerate or violent women (a certain type of man enjoys reading about these women because they like to think there's some kind of parity between male & female behaviour and violence when there clearly isn't). Even though these type of men pop up in the Guardian comments too, there were definitely more of them in the Independent comment sections. I stopped reading years ago because of all of this, and now I've read they are are on the trans train too, and regularly publish utterly ridiculous, science denying nonsense, I won't be going back. I'm sure misogynist woke bros are loving it though.

Remember everyone, sex isn't finite or binary......until men need sex or women for reproduction. Then it's VERY binary.

Funny that!

EarthSight · 20/11/2020 13:57

@NotBadConsidering That's a good one. You could actually clearly show how those things are ow regularly adopted by the British Left, although I don't know enough about Labour to comment on anti-Semitism.

Stripesnomore · 20/11/2020 13:38

It must be horrendous living in America right now if you believe the right, Republicans, conservatives and church goers are all tainted and not to be trusted. That’s most of your fellow citizens surely?

It is better to try and be tolerant of other political and religious groups and build bridges with them, not treat them as inferiors.

WhereYouLeftIt · 20/11/2020 13:28

Have only skliffed over the thread (OP and first few responses) and that has prompted me to bring this GIF up (again).

There is overlap between everyone. But as can be seen from the diagram, there is more non-overlap. This seems so obvious - that you can agree on one thing, and disagree on everything else. Pretending otherwise is childish. And probably disingenuous and trying-to-be-manipulative-but-failing too.
