Anything less than a policy or “are they male (no one can change sex)? If yes then they go to a men’s prison” is a disgusting betrayal of women, puts incredible vulnerable women at risk, ignores their privacy and dignity, inflicts trauma on already traumatised women.

But tell be BananaPop2020 how many women’s groups (genuine ones with no ‘trans-inclusive conditions attached to their funding) were consulted in drawing up these guidelines? How much consideration is given to the feelings and safety of women’s prisoners? Where do you think the man who drew up the Scottish Policy now is?

The people responding to me in a blunt manner need to redirect their anger. I am certainly not an activist of any sort, I am just highlighting the current status quo. I do speak from a place of knowledge though, as I have been involved in the process. @ErrolTheDragon if I was tech savvy enough to send the link, I would do!

But the trans activists are still pushing for self ID/relaxation of criteria for GRC in the U.K., so there's no room for complacency.
And the safeguards which may apply in England and Wales don't apply in many other countries.

BananaPop2020, oh, so that’s fine then. Women prisoners (many of whom are survivors of sexual violence) forced to share communal showers with a penis toting male body who self IDs as female will be so relieved to know there has been “scrutiny”. That will make traumatised rape victims feel so much better, won’t it.

It’s easy to look up the MoJ policy and procedure on this. As for Karen White, thankfully lessons were learnt from that, and as I said, the scrutiny level is high.

That was 3 years ago and these decisions are subject to serious scrutiny. There is a a whole set of procedures in place.

Just to be clear, men cannot ‘self ID’ into the female prison estate. It is a lot more involved than that.

I read this story - it did strike me that the killer (who garrotted his victim & expressed an interest in eating him) did not appear be channeling what might be described as the more traditional, stereotypical feminine qualities.

He’s obviously highly disturbed. What baffles me most is how he managed to acquire the various weapons he used. It does not speak well of prison security- and surely he was known to be a danger?

Obviously he should not be in a women’s prison.

I think the OP is right to be wary.

It might be that the killer has multiple personalities as his identity disorder or he might identify as the opposite sex.

If the latter, as is well proven by now, what with specific campaigns being set up to not record men's crimes as committed by women and the Keep Prisons Single Sex campaign, men can just Self ID into women's prisons.

Violent crime is overwhelmingly committed by men so this man in particular could say he was a woman and be moved into a prison with women, maybe even one with a mother and baby unit.

It's not an unreasonable concern to have and I share it too.

Bloody hell.
What I'd take from that is that there are some vile, violent sexual abusers.
Some of them are, or pretend to be, Christian.
Others are, or pretend to be, suffering from 'gender identity' disorders.
No doubt there are others with all manner of excuses and duplicity.

The only thing in common apart from their crimes is their sex.
