@Cattenberg

As long as the “birth parent” had automatic parental responsibility for the child, I think that might work. The term “birth parent” is also used for the biological mothers and fathers of adopted children, though, so that could get confusing.

Also, what would you call the genetic father? “Sperm-providing parent”?

I don't think many people would chose that option! I've been trying to think of an accetable phrase, but I'm at a loss. I'll ask some trans friends.
DadJoke · 21/10/2021 15:16

@merrymouse nothing whatsoever. I suggested that people could have to option to put birthing parent if they preferred.

merrymouse · 21/10/2021 15:08

@DadJoke

Giving people the option of "birth parent" as well as mother would be a good solution.

Children would know who gave birth to them, which was the main point of the objection, and trans men would not have to referred to as a mother.

What is wrong with being referred to as a mother?
Cattenberg · 21/10/2021 14:55

I think there are two groups of people who may prefer such terms.

Some of the people involved in surrogacy, for example, reject the terms “mother”, “birth mother” and even “surrogate mother” to describe the person who carries and gives birth to a child. Preferred terms I’ve seen include “the surrogate”, “the carrier”, “the gestational carrier” and in some contexts, “the uterus”.

@Cattenberg

I thought that trans men wanted to be called fathers. The problem with that is that the terms mother and father aren’t always synonymous in UK law, so there would be legal inconsistencies and points of conflict.

As I understand it, the GRA doesn’t enable trans men to be regarded as men for all purposes - there are exceptions.

But if transmen want to be called fathers, who is insisting that women who give birth, who are not trans, are called birthing bodies?

A comment for the crowdfunder which I think says a lot. Donations currently almost halfway and I noticed an anon donation of 1k.

"I’m not sure I would have ever started HRT if not for seeing Freddy’s documentary by chance at a film festival. I don’t know if I want biological children, but the thought of voluntarily giving that up (as many medical professionals tell you will happen when starting T) felt too weighty. Thank you Freddy for giving me information about my options and I wish you the best in accessing the options that are right for you and this baby."

Datun · 21/10/2021 13:34

I thought the whole point of the language mangling was that transmen wanted to be called birthing bodies with vaginas?

Aren't we meant to understand that transmen are at the root of the entire issue?

Is that suddenly not the case?

Or...we could just call women 'ovens'.

@Clymene

Incidentally you can no longer put children on parents' passports. They have to have their own passports.

To apply for a child's passport you need to send (originals, not copies):

•	2 new photos of your childd_
•	the child’s full birth or adoption certificate (the one with parent’s details on it)
•	proof that your child has British nationality (for example a British registration certificate, parent’s passport details or parent’s birth certificates)
•	any valid passports from a different country belonging to the child
•	any court orders (for example, that describe parental responsibility or residency arrangements)

In the GoFundMe set up by Freddie's mother, it says: "Due to outdated English laws, SJ (now almost four) still does not have a birth certificate."

Thanks for this, I thought as much but useful to have the official info.

Accurate, truthful, easy to understand, info. It's important.

@Fariha31

Who is thedad of these kids? does anyone know, not that its really relevent. But, you know, it still takes two peopel to make a baby. Does not the father have any say in all this?
The father is an anon sperm donor (for the first child, I don't think F has said where the father came from for the second child, it could have been from a frozen embryo from previous IVF?)

Either way, in order for this child/children he/they will need to understand that they can access the donor register for details aged 18 so they would need to know they have a father, one that isn't the mother, IYSWIM.

SJ is donor conceived. I assume the baby McConnell is currently pregnant with was conceived the same way
Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/10/2021 12:42

Isn't it maybe like "you don't believe trans people should exist!" Ie the child does have a birth certificate but Freddy and family consider its false because TMAM and therefore he "doesn't have one"?

Cattenberg · 21/10/2021 12:28

If a crowdfunder has been set up containing incorrect information, I think the sensible and ethical thing to do would be to delete it and create a replacement. The replacement should contain an explanation/correction.

Clymene · 21/10/2021 12:16

@Melroses

There must be a birth registration of sorts, because, at the very least, the hospital/midwife will have reported it on to the Registrar.

Presumably the process should have been gone through to a sufficient extent to bring the court cases.

The crowdfunder is being misleading.

It is just not to Freddy's liking.

SJ must have a birth certificate because you cannot get a passport without one. So it cannot be true that he doesn't have one as his grandmother wrote in the crowdfunder.

It is good that we need documentation to take children to different countries. It helps prevent child trafficking.

And asking people to FUND their delusions 😆😆😆
What is amazing is that people are funding them. And clearly think they are supporting something groundbreaking and worthwhile.

FrancescaContini · 21/10/2021 12:00

“Opens them up to abuse???” So they’re already making an unborn child into a “victim of hate”???

Good God. The victim mentality. Oh poor meeeeeeeeee

Datun · 21/10/2021 11:55

SJ's new baby sibling will soon face the same situation as SJ: no birth certificate, or one that opens them up to discrimination and abuse later in life, because it inaccurately lists Freddy as their 'mother'

This is what's on the crowd funder. ^

It says no certificate, 'or' one that...

And now we find out that they were all in Spain, which they couldn't do without a birth certificate.

All very misleading.

merrymouse · 21/10/2021 11:41

There seems to be a complete lack of awareness of the situations where a full birth certificate would need to be produced.

They aren’t situations when anyone would know or care about your parent’s gender identity.

Plenty of people have a parent who they barely know on their birth certificate.

FrancescaContini · 21/10/2021 11:24

Wow. The self importance of these people, wanting to change the law to reflect their delusions.
