See this is my problem with this whole thing. People hate Trump so much that they're willing to ignore that Biden clearly has cognitive issues, that KH's path to the White House has been manipulated and that this election was actually a very close call, far closer than many anticipated and will be fought out in the courts. Trump does have a case to be examined whether we like it or not. I think this head in the sand approach is incredibly dangerous, the democratic process is being blurred. We need to be careful what we wish for.
TY TheJourneyWoman. There are now multiple legitimate legal avenues for Trump to contest the election— and prevail. I don’t say that as someone who wants a continued Trump presidency, but rather I recognize that the election system in the US is a complex mechanism. This slog isn’t over and I think people will be shocked by how long this is drawn out. Every state where the ballots are in question have a Republican lead state legislature. It is these state legislatures which select the representatives who ultimately decides where the state’s electoral votes go. That happens on Dec 14, IIRC.

Though the circumstances are different, Bush v. Gore was only twenty years ago so the precedent of a modern election being decided by the Supreme Court is not ancient history.

Good. Checks and balances - let the legal system do its job now.
If Trump has done nothing else, he has exposed the weaknesses in the American system.
Hopefully Biden will be a safe pair of hands, as many say, to solidify the weaknesses for when the next lunatic comes along.

That said, Trump Derangement Syndrome is definitely real! ANY other President would have gotten plaudits and praise about the Middle East Peace Deals - they are not nothing. But there was very little coverage, and anyone saying This Is A Good Thing would be called a Trumpster Nazi or similar.

A private company - Twitter - saw fit to censor his tweets. They also banned within minutes information that would hurt his political rivals chances in the election, coming from a mainstream news source. I don't believe that was just some excellent fact checking, how could it be, in that time frame? It was a deliberate partisan blow, and should concern anyone who is interested in democracy, the public square, free press and all that jazz.

I'm glad Trump is gone, he just sent political discourse bananas. Hopefully, if Joe is such a unifier, moderates from both the left and the right will be able to communicate again and actually start thinking things through instead of wailing that they are literally shaking and crying whenever they hear someone in the wrong colour tshirt express an opinion.

American political discourse is gone like the Sistene Chapel thread

FireUnderTheHand · 09/11/2020 22:13

@Aesopfable

are deeply against trans rights to the point of banning them from the military.

Banning people with a reliance on medication from the military seems a sensible thing to do whatever the condition. And given factors like dysphoria, surgical complications, need to dilate ‘neovaginas’ and high rates of suicide/suicidal thoughts, it would suggest they are exactly the sort you do not want in your fighting unit where men’s lives depend on each other’s actions. That is before you add in things like requiring commanders to ensure the usage of ‘correct’ pronouns when issuing orders in extremely tense/extreme risk situations.

^All of this, 100%

Just wanted to add, in case it wasn't clear, the Georgia Senate run off elections are national ballots, not just for the citizens of that state. It's potentially huge!
Your statement is demonstrably untrue and quite misleading. You clearly are unfamiliar with how our Congress (Senate & House) elections work.

Senate and House elections (general, midterms, and runoffs) are voted in by citizens of the state they represent. State Reps (House 2yr terms & Senate 6yr terms) serve in Congress as the legislative part of our national government. However, they represent only the citizens of their state unless opining as 'Congress' or 'The House' or 'The Senate' as their national influence is inextricably tied to be being elected as a state representative serving in the national legislative branch (to ensure the state's i.e. interests of that state's citizens on a national level are recognized and considered).

Yes GA's Senate choices could greatly impact the Senate but we don't vote for GA's Senate Reps on a national level. Their runoffs will be decided in January of 2021 by GA registered voters - not by any other state or national vote.

An attempt to 'nationalize' the race means that they will lean hard on the national population to coerce/influence GA voters to go their way, (either side) not that the national voices actually count or will be allowed to weigh in via vote (they can't and won't, it isn't how it works). The idea is to inundate GA citizens with propaganda serving whichever side the propagandist belongs to in the hopes that the sheeple will follow whatever they are pushing and thus gain votes to secure their preferred elect.

My other post was relating to the poster armchair diagnosing dementia in JB so was like "well, if we're armchair diagnosing now" so not really just at you.

TheJourneyWoman · 09/11/2020 19:32

I know they did. That's why I responded to it. A much clearer, less reactive and more intelligent post to engage with Smile

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:31

I was responding to this.
Which was you.

Trump does have a case to be examined whether we like it or not

To which I said, Oh God, really?
Have a look at Hecates post, that says it better than I did.

TheJourneyWoman · 09/11/2020 19:30

@HecatesCats

There is no evidence of voter fraud. It is a cynical tactic which everyone knew Trump would deploy - because he’s said so himself. He was called out on it by Hilary Clinton in the run up to the 2016 election. Read this article from October which catalogues how the ‘myth of voter fraud’ has been used as propaganda. ‘Trump has questioned the legitimacy of the vote, falsely suggesting it will be “rigged” against him and his campaign has floated using the idea of a fraudulent election as the basis for overriding the popular vote in key states...’ www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/oct/26/us-election-voter-fraud-mail-in-ballots?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

His claims will be investigated and he will still lose. He is a narcissistic megalomaniac with ambitions to destroy democracy. It was a case of the devil and the deep blue sea.

Well will see won't we and no one will be happier than me with a certain victory and him gone.
TheJourneyWoman · 09/11/2020 19:29

You're responding to points I have not made. Not sure why? Nowhere have I claimed he's a good choice for president. And YOU were the one that mentioned his tweets, seemingly as evidence that there are no discrepancies with this election process and that there's nothing to see here. This constant shouting down of anyone who says "hold on a minute..." is one of the reasons why he got in in the first place and why so many voted for him this time, leaving the dems without the decisive win that was expected.

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:28

Exactly @Hecatescat

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:24

So you're only going by his tweets then? That's all you're taking into account?

Where did I say I was just going by his tweets?
Have you not seen him speak as well?!
He hardly comes across as a rational, sane choice as President.

TheJourneyWoman · 09/11/2020 19:22

So you're only going by his tweets then? That's all you're taking into account? You're not looking anywhere else for information? You really should do you know.

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:20

Seeing as we're going all Arm Chair Doctor

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:19

Trump does have a case to be examined whether we like it or not

Oh God, really?!
Where's his proof then?
He lost.
He's just been yelling on Twitter (LITERALLY, CAPS AND EVERYTHING)
how "I won, A LOT!" and generally ranting.
They've been getting more and more tin foil hat and ranty,
He's the one that comes across as not well to me!

Yep. Trump Derangement Syndrome, innit.

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 19:15

I’d say that’s precisely what makes one an “armchair doctor”

Actually, yeah - makes an armchair doctor but just that - sat pontificating whether old man has dementia just because knows a couple of family members do - as I said, randomers thinking they can speculate on someone's health and cast aspersions, ''cos old.

FrankieSezRelax · 09/11/2020 19:07

@Quaagars

I’m not a medical professional; my experience with dementia only extends to the two members of family who had it.

There you go then.
Two family members with it does not an Armchair Doctor make.

I’d say that’s precisely what makes one an “armchair doctor”— relating to or diagnosing via anecdotal experience. What it doesn’t make for is a medical doctor, which I freely admit I am not.

Just offering my opinion.

Quaagars · 09/11/2020 17:44

Not read the whole thread, but why on earth is anyone discussing if Biden has dementia? He sounds perfectly coherent to me, and infinitely more so than the vile orange man, but it doesn't matter anyway. He's won the election

Exactly!
Seen a few posts on here theses past few days saying HOW old?! propped up by a stick, frail, dementia....
Are they watching something else lol?
He came across perfectly fine to me, and obviously did to lots of others as he won the election.
I think people just see what they want to see as he seems perfectly OK to me.
Being in your 70s is NOT too old, and Joe Random sat at home analysing whether you've got all your marbles just because you said the wrong name (shit, I do that all the time and I'm in my 40s lol)
must get really tiresome Grin

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 09/11/2020 17:39

I have/had 2 family members too. Both very different in nature and you can’t always really know unless you’ve known the person before. To be honest - both were/are quite eccentric to start with.
