This one’s popped onto my radar a few times over the past couple of weeks .. thought it was worth sharing as there is a lot to unpack. Apologies if it’s already been shared .. I checked back but couldn’t see anything.

Here for the deletion message, as I watched another thread where someone had put their own information into the public domain (just like here) which went, even though it was all based on things anyone could easily see and where single sex exemptions apply in law. Not a dissimilar service, either. Vulnerable women etc etc.

PopperUppleton · 06/11/2020 16:42

I have an inner bitch troll from hell, which comes in handy Grin

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 16:11

Yes, no inner goddesses here, Mridul. I'm not a person of faith, just a pretty tired and irritated woman.

Malvarrosa · 06/11/2020 15:42

Suggest those on twitter report that tweet for threatening violence.

Reported for misgendering - which, unlike VAWG, Twitter bigwigs seem to care about. There’s no way that Reckless Tweeter knows that “the goddess” (sic -even iPhone autocorrect knows it’s a capital G) - punch-drunk and coming up on 48 hours of no sleep post-US election - hasn’t said fuck it all and gone non-binary or even full on male (AKA penis person).

AnyOldPrion · 06/11/2020 15:05

No inner goddess here. I’m an ordinary women... just very pissed off!

IAmNotAGirl · 06/11/2020 14:55

Suggest those on twitter report that tweet for threatening violence.

PearPickingPorky · 06/11/2020 14:19

Presented without comment.

Other than to say, this individual is being very well-supported in this land-grab of the most sensitive women-only roles by the women who work in the VAWG sector.

If an applicant didn't fill out a very important section/declaration, that's incompetence/wilfully ignoring on the part of the hiring people too

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 13:55

Genuine Occupational Requirement for the Equality Act exemption for a woman

The job is specifically and explicitly described as being for a woman. It clearly and for fairly easy to understand reasons requires a woman in role. That's why they've invoked the exemption, very plainly, on the first page of the job ad.

How on earth has this been fudged to include some males?

And how on earth does a male think this doesn't apply to them, or that they don't have to abide by this requirement, or that the reasons for women wanting a woman in this role are not as important as their reasons for wanting the job?

Graffitiqueen · 06/11/2020 12:59

The type of person who would deceive their way into a rape crisis centre is the last person who should be allowed to work with vulnerable women. Despicable.

Escapeplanning · 06/11/2020 12:55

Joan McAlpine did some amazing work challenging the trans organisations that wanted the occupational exemptions gone.

In particular the PDF I linked shows they wanted to add a clause that went further than just removing women only and adding trans only jobs as an occupational requirement. There's a video somewhere of Joan's incredulity of this idea that women can't have an exemption but trans should.

There's probably threads if any one wants to search Joan McAlpine.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 12:46

I don't understand how the dbs cleared this?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/11/2020 12:43

Surely a breach of the Genuine Occupational Requirement for the Equality Act exemption for a woman being "a female of any age". Not a self IDing MTF trans person.

littlbrowndog · 06/11/2020 12:28

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 11:56

It shows a severe lack of self awareness its.

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 11:54

Female born service users escaping with their lives, probably abused and coercively controlled their whole lives are unlikely to be able to voice their concerns at the time of use.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/11/2020 11:52

I was unaware of its existence until a few weeks ago

Pretty sure it was a condition in their current (?) job application...

This individual us deliberately pushing boundaries:

Working in a female only (genuine occupational requirement) position - tick

Working with vulnerable women in rape crisis - tick

Standing on AWS - tick

Women's officer - tick

Have I missed any?

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 11:52

In what other situations are the language and boundaries established for safeguarding a vulnerable group blatantly ignored?

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 11:49

Also, before this is zapped, what is the best way that we can speak about male born people applying for jobs specifically described as for females, working in a role where their presence actively excludes the females its designed to support, and talking about 'destroying' women who question or complain? When these are elected officials?

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 11:47

That's such an upsetting post, Michelle.

no female born service users had ever raised any issues with them

This reminds me of when I campaigned at uni for a creche service, and the tutors all said it clearly wasn't needed, because 'there are no mothers attending'.

PurpleHoodie · 06/11/2020 11:46

This whole thread requires being screenshot in case people who don't give a shit about children and women who have been raped decide to delete it/have it deleted.

Then the issue needs to be raised in the Commons and Lords.

Igmum · 06/11/2020 11:43

This is horrific. Deliberately denying vulnerable women and girls access to single sex rape crisis services. These people should hang their heads in shame. Are there any rape crisis centres which are single sex? I'd like to do some spadework

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 11:38

(because they're such great posts!)

NeurotrashWarrior · 06/11/2020 11:37

I've saved the wording for escape and Michelle's posts as I expect this thread to be zapped.

Escapeplanning · 06/11/2020 11:37

That's exactly what has happened Michelle and why it's so important to keep up the pressure on the proper use of exemptions and not defer to the perspective that they are unfair and unnecessary.
