This one’s popped onto my radar a few times over the past couple of weeks .. thought it was worth sharing as there is a lot to unpack. Apologies if it’s already been shared .. I checked back but couldn’t see anything.

Placemarking, I'll have a look in detail later

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/11/2020 11:15

The only correct thing the rape centre should've done was fired them the instant they found out they were a lying Male. Because they were legally allowed to employ a female only for the role.

Safeguarding gone to shit

@HaveaStock

It’s very telling that they are invoking the Hindu Goddess Kali - a very Feminist icon after all. ‘Kali is the quintessential embodiment of shakti, female power‘. I believe that Mdridil worked for the organisation Shakti. So anyone objecting to this imagery will be denounced as a racist as well as a transphobe rest assured.

‘Kali embodies the boundless and existential freedom to be—without seeking permission.’

Clever.

Yes, as an Indian woman I am disgusted to see an Indian male appropriate the iconography of the goddess Kali for their own agenda. Desecration of the symbolism of female power. Skin colour and nationality has never stopped males from trying to erase womanhood.

Wow, just come across this person... Wow!

So, is it now SNP policy that the paltry amount of women's funding to provide respite after assault and physical danger is to be further reduced by diverting part of it to create awareness wrt another group of people? Depressing how you can see the way all this is going for women.

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 07/11/2020 08:12

I wonder how many trans woman rape counsellors there ARE, in Scotland - I guess it’s very possible this is one and the same individual...

ChoosandChipsandSealingWax · 07/11/2020 08:11

It beggars belief. I saw a heartbreaking story by a Scottish woman whose 14 year old daughter had been raped by four men, then offered a trans woman counsellor. She had PTSD and couldn’t take up the service, but wasn’t allowed to complain/have a different counsellor, so she was effectively denied access to counselling.

How anyone could put that person’s need for validation (can I say that natal male, or will that get me zapped???) ahead of a deeply traumatised young girl’s need for actual help, I do not and cannot understand or accept.

testing987654321 · 07/11/2020 02:30

Without that self realisation I would be unsuited to the role.

And with that self-realisation I would know I was unsuited to the role.

Men should not be running rape crisis centres.

Escapeplanning · 07/11/2020 00:24

It's like the guy in the rubber pants for the NSPCC, it's just beyond comprehension
Same, absolutely the same mindset and the women singing along with this........

BewaretheIckabog · 06/11/2020 23:21

Once again I am more simplistic and less erudite than most posters.

But in my simplistic way I have the following questions:

Would any person with any compassion or ordinary decency apply for or take a role, knowing their presence may disenfranchise or exclude the very set of vulnerable people the role was supposed to support?

Would I not understand that my desire for recognition was less important in this instance than the women who needed that service?

Without that self realisation I would be unsuited to the role.

Twistiesandshout · 06/11/2020 23:01

New to this on MN, but had to have my say on this topic.. The misogyny is everywhere these days. We fought for so long to have our single sex spaces and these are being taken from us, the fact rape crisis counselling is being run by a man and women can't be guaranteed single sex space.. it feels crazy. The focus on trans is hugely out of proportion. Who are victims of sexual assault (overwhelmingly women), who are perpetrators (overwhelmingly men). Surely these simple facts are all that we need to know? As a rape and sexual assault survivor I have never felt at risk by a trans-man, because they are biologically female, I have felt at risk by trans-women because they are biologically male.

rednsparkley · 06/11/2020 22:58

MW is very much a not nice person, who, if they had any compassion, would not be in thd post they are in.

More on Mridul Wadhwa. Prioritising trans survivors and advocating the end of single sex space for women. Quote from MW’s submission to Women and Equalities Committee trans inquiry at Westminster. No concern for women at all but feted by Scotland’s women’s sector. Despicable.

No single sex places for women in Scotland

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 21:34

It's a clever (and deeply fucking immoral) thing they've pulled off here. Anyone who questions a male providing care/support in a role specifically for women is 'transphobic ' and - as we see above - 'evil'.

How on earth we have ended up in this situation, where women who have been traumatised by males and therefore are vulnerable to an involuntary response to males are told they are evil unless they accept male bodied HCPs, male bodied refuge workers, male bodied therapists, even when they have asked (as is their right) for females, completely floors me. It's up there with the 'weaponising trauma ' accusations - absolutely abhorrent behaviour.

And to be clear, I'm not directing that at the TRAs but at the people in power facilitating this horrible bullying and gas lighting.

letsgoroundagainbaby · 06/11/2020 21:14

I'm female.

I had trauma therapy for 3 years various sexual assaults, many committed in childhood.

My therapist was male. It was never, ever an issue for me and I recovered very well mostly due to the therapeutic relationship with this man.

I cannot, for one minute, understand why people aren't able to put themselves in the shoes of women who are triggered and scared by men and want to keep their services single sex.

I can't fathom it at all. It's like I just have this incredible ability to see something from a point of view that isn't my own. If only others could.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/11/2020 21:11

Well they don’t get funded if they are not inclusive.

All the groups in Scotland are interlinked.

I recently reread a Mumsnet thread linked from another forum where a MNer had sneaked into a specific trans meeting and Scottish TRAs and Engender were pretty much boasting about achieving this.

littlbrowndog · 06/11/2020 21:07

Well they don’t get funded if they are not inclusive.

All the groups in Scotland are interlinked.

Same main players. Same funding.

Closed shop

FindTheTruth · 06/11/2020 19:30

One MNetter described that by the end of the meeting many of the women were in tears. Staff were interested only in the inclusion of people born male in the services and refuges and had no interest whatsoever in what the female born people were saying, expressing or sharing other than to dismiss it as wrong. Afterwards those staff (I believe this included area management) stated openly that no female born service users had ever raised any issues with them, so denying those women, their voices or that meeting ever existed

Erasure of women. Erasure of biological females. these things happen because of biology.

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 19:27

I also suspect that these organisations are not 100% compromised and that there are some staff who are not on board with TWAW.

ArabellaScott · 06/11/2020 19:26

Women's Aid Scotland and Rape Crisis Scotland have compromised the basic aims on which they were founded ie providing services to women who experience male violence because of their sex. Alone individual cant reach a position of influence unless those around them allow them to reach that position.

Maybe it is time that SMPs were challenged.

I agree.
