Apparently the women in Poland who are protesting about the awful abortion laws are 'people with vaginas'....

Not sure ThatIs.

But the taxman might want to know.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/11/2020 16:45

Is that their reason to exist then? Just to announce that not only women have periods? Wow who foots the bill!!

Hoping4second · 03/11/2020 14:47

I went to the Vagina museum last year (pre-Covid, feels like a different lifetime now!) and yes, sorry waste of space. They had plain mistakes on their boards too - I remember one on breastfeeding and contraception.

They also seem to be very confused on what is a vagina as opposed to what is a vulva.

Pretty poor show tbh. When there would be so much to say about what different societies think about menstruation or menopause, basic education (it's a vulva! not a vagina!), common-but-underdiagnosed conditions like endometriosis or PCOS, things to look out for when you're a woman (ectopic pregnancies, ovarian cancer etc), when and how often to do a smear test, menstrual art, basic education around early pregnancy (it's an embryo not a foetus much less a baby, abortion "kills" something the size of a grain of rice), etc etc.

Instead they had a giant tampon, lots of boards saying men can totally be women and a pair of knickers discoloured at the crotch.... to each their own, to each their own.

They are in no way speaking for women or indeed feminism.

@SunsetBeetch

I'm very fucking angry and sweary today. Both at the situation in Poland, and at these pathetic tweets by a so-called Vagina Museum. Seriously FUCK OFF.
Yes I’m trying to keep away from twitter today because of these twits barking nonsense to the the Twitterati. Sigh.
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 10:52

Oooooh, I'll go to those, thanks, Purple!

PurpleHoodie · 03/11/2020 10:09

The Foundling Museum and Museum of Brands on the other hand are examples of smaller museums who do manage to get it right.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 09:58

You know what, Purple, it really was. I hadn't recognised it at the time, but, yes, I was bored.

There was no humour or outrage - it was a bit like a high school project. I'm surprised, their director is a science communicator and I expected something engaging.

Oh well, maybe I'm not their target market

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 09:56

That article, HPFA - I feel dizzy. Also, this:

"Like many trans women don’t use tampons in order to enhance our lived experience."

That's them sticking it up their bum or stealing used ones from bins, isn't it? In plain sight.

@DidoLamenting

One of the potential silver linings of COVID-19 was that the Vagina Museum looked as if it might go bust but sadly not.
Where the fuxk are they getting money from???

And "Polish people with vaginas". Fuck off to the far side of fuck off, Vagina Museum.

PurpleHoodie · 03/11/2020 09:35

Sounds boring and grim vivarium

HPFA · 03/11/2020 09:22

Hadn't seen this article before - worth a read

spectator.us/cisgendered-menstruators-erase-identity/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/11/2020 09:15

I've been, and was really disappointed. I expected some insightful stuff about medical misogyny, historical artefacts, development of contraception, menstrual practices across the ages and world, some clever interactive and thought provoking displays...

...there is a giant glittery tampon, a pair of used black knickers in a perspex box and some factually incorrect posters.

It's a shame, it could have been brilliant. Instead, it looks like every mention of :women" has been debated before approval by their board - many of whom don't believe themselves to be female. Go figure.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/11/2020 08:21

Oh. That little icon on the far right?

Vagina Museum
PurpleHoodie · 03/11/2020 08:19

I'm not sure.

Does anyone on here who is also on Twitter know how??

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/11/2020 08:17

Isn’t there a way to see deleted tweets? They have had all this before but doggedly persist.

PurpleHoodie · 03/11/2020 08:15

They have deleted 1000+ comments by women and men who have called out their shocking hypocritical stance.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/11/2020 07:45

I wonder who actually visits?

PurpleHoodie · 03/11/2020 07:40

We are a museum going family. We love discovering a new one.

I have placed this one on our no-go list.

The women running this one are shocking and they will not be getting our custom', money or support.

Winesalot · 03/11/2020 07:36

I have seen them advertising somewhere in London during the summer so maybe they attracted an investor.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 03/11/2020 07:31

I thought they were about to go bust?

Quaagars · 02/11/2020 23:07

A vagina museum?!
Ookay not heard of that one lol, each to their own but I think I'll stick to Madam Tussaud's or the London Eye lol

Winesalot · 02/11/2020 21:54

Now that pencil museum is fun!

2Rebecca · 02/11/2020 21:50

Agree with Dido Lamenting. If you're reduced to visiting the vagina museum on holiday then the weather is really crap. Sadly I see it as being on a stag weekend itinerary

Godxilla · 02/11/2020 21:43

I like that comparison. FYI I have visited the pencil museum, and I rather liked it!
