@PostItJoyWeek 100% the witch hunt never stopped and seems to be ramping up again.

Indigenous? Hmm good luck. As a PP said, pretty sure most men and women knew what a woman was and what a man was back then and I would say most still do (even if they nicey nicey play along with the delusions of trans individuals re their gender).

angstinabaggyjumper · 01/11/2020 16:16

Can I identify as Woodwose?

justasking111 · 01/11/2020 16:11

Well in theory a celt Irish, but that pesky spanish armada came ashore when wrecked, raped and pillaged my ancestors villages hence my dark hair and blue eyes. So I guess that has stymied my application.

BTW the irish get very touchy at the insinuation that spanish/moor blood runs through their veins.

Fizzydrinks123 · 01/11/2020 15:48

It is about male rights and hopefully people are waking up to that.

Female isn't a costume is a simple as it needs to be. We are female and are affected by various innate biological factors and that is why women's rights were fought for.

Male right to wear female costume is their right/choice but not to tell females they know the lived experience of being affected daily by our own biology. We are not a costume.

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 01/11/2020 15:47

FFS we really are living in a tinpot little totalitarian dictatorship.

Can’t feed people, can’t house people, sold off any thing in public ownership, next thing they’ll be selling off the farmland itself. But how dare we complain about any of that? You know the real problem? Bloody women protesting against sexism.

Have they even realised that anti-gender means against sexism, and being against anti-gender is to be openly in favour of sexism? How far I their linguistic tunnels can they go before they lose track of the whole concept of meaning, let alone specific instances of it?

Just when I think I can hold no more contempt for this disgusting country and its leaders they give me reason to find more.

lionheart · 01/11/2020 15:36

A very short step from 'radical' to 'radicalised' is my guess.

MichelleofzeResistance · 01/11/2020 15:35

Which I suppose does explain why Neanderthal DNA may be a plus.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/11/2020 15:34

@BaronessWrongCrowd

So they're interviewing the Celts, the Normans, Saxons. Pretty sure the vikings and possibly Romans could be included as well. I mean I'm not sure how far back they want to go as I'm positive that there were tribes predating the Celts. However, I'm pretty sure they all knew what a woman was Halloween Grin
Great. Dh qualifies then. He is more likely to be one of these than a lot of people born here. And he has a British passport now. Grin
MichelleofzeResistance · 01/11/2020 15:34

'anti gender radicals' are impacting on transgender people's human rights.

unpack that (as you say) clearly stated conclusion reached ahead of the research.

There's no such thing as 'anti-gender', what they mean in essence is women defending their existing legal rights.

This is research into how women defending their existing legal rights are impacting on transgender people's human rights. By doing evil things like writing to the MPs, pointing out current law, participating in government consultations and pointing out facts, realities and issues for women, and raising public awareness of why removing sex based rights from women may make some males very happy but is really not appropriate or ok or inclusive or legal in terms of equality for all female people.

And since this is purely about female people getting in the way of male people, it isn't about transgender people's rights, it's about male rights.

This is in essence therefore, about how to find out about and stop women organising and standing up for their rights in ways that some male people are finding inconvenient.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/11/2020 15:33

US cultural imperialism, innit?

elfycat · 01/11/2020 15:33

I mean are we talking Reindeer, or further back to woolly rhinos? There's dino footprints. Maybe they want an iguanodon?

I state my ethnicity as British Mongrel (deffo Roman, Anglo-Saxon and Viking in the mix. But my mother had a dodgy foreign maiden name - probably Dutch though ancestry research hadn't found the culprit so I'm not sure how diluted by the rest of the DNA that will be).

Melroses · 01/11/2020 15:31

My Grandad had a Roman nose and lived in Northumberland, near The Wall.

Does that make me Latinx?

highame · 01/11/2020 15:28

I like the idea of being investigated. I wonder if there's a badge or a t-shirt. If I don't get grilled by someone in a trilby and a raincoat, I'll be really miffed.

We have some indigenous I think, because I liked Stonehenge when I visited. Might apply

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:23

Heh.

I don't know why I'm so exercised about this.

But ok imagine i apply.
Which I would be welcome to do, being disabled and gender non conforming and whatnot.
Although tbh desk based research is not my thing as I focus more on co-generation of knowledge.
But say if i need the money.

'Produce an expert and accessible paper on radical anti-gender organizing against trans people in the UK.'
What if my desk-based research concludes that anti-gender organiSing benefits everyone.
Do I still get paid?

NiceGerbil · 01/11/2020 15:20

Well the list of who they welcome applications from shows that zero thought has gone into it, which isn't a good start for the activity they want to fund....

Aesopfable · 01/11/2020 15:20

or are they looking for someone in particular, or hoping for a right-on hatchet job?

Oh no, they would never do that.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:19

When someone coming here from the states asked me to connect her with indigenous groups, I had a bit of a chat with her and she ended up contacting gypsy/traveller organisations.
I sort of know what they mean.
But it isn't the right word really.

PhilSwagielka · 01/11/2020 15:17

Indigenous works in an Aussie/Canadian/US context. Not so much here, especially as the far right use it as a dogwhistle for 'anyone who isn't white' even if they were born here.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:15

Indigenous seems to be the new trendy word that has replaced 'diasporic'- both generally used out of context in a way that makes my teeth itch.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 01/11/2020 15:14

From an academic perspective, I can't get my head around this.
If they're asking for someone with possibly a journalistic background or similar, why would they have research publications?
Am I misunderstanding what 'research' is, or are they looking for someone in particular, or hoping for a right-on hatchet job?

Also, the logic of it doesn't work. It isn't really beginning with questions but rather conclusions eg 'anti gender radicals' are impacting on transgender people's human rights.
I mean, is that established?

EstuaryBird · 01/11/2020 15:12

Oh, I’m right in here 👍. My mother was 100% Celtic and my father was 75% Indigenous American.....don’t know about the other 25% but I bet it was indigenous to somewhere 😊

PostItJoyWeek · 01/11/2020 15:11

@DocMarteens

Do British Muslim women not get to say why they need single sex spaces?
No. They are non-people who need to abandon their own belief system for someone else's belief system. If they refuse then they don't deserve to mix with others outside the home. Conservative religious Muslim women should also get on with being properly liberated women by doing more sex work, dressing in pornified clothing and having more casual sex (with men, lesbians can fuck off).
MaudTheInvincible · 01/11/2020 15:10

@Beamur

If this is just a cut and paste from US equivalents they're going to find the concept of indigenous a bit tricky to apply here. Don't they know that's a shade alt-right in concept here?

Lazy, culturally illiterate tosspots.

Maya's thread makes some very interesting links, including around their funding.

Escapeplanning · 01/11/2020 15:07

I am confident a male Lantinx sex worker will be able to tell them every thing they need to know about women's groups in the UK. There's been dozens of them at meetings here.
