I confess I am complety obsessed with it. I mean come on, redefining the concept of beauty!

Al77 · 06/11/2020 17:05

@jj1968 @Whatwouldscullydo
It is quite a common TRA tactic to pose with or post pictures of weapons. They never directly threaten violence, only imply it so they can't be banned from social media. They provoke and then report all the angry responses.
The delightful @THICKETTHORN ( self described as "Trans knife Witch") is "defining beauty" posing here with quite a few different sorts of knifes. Definately not a fencing enthusiast. They are very clever because they have superimposed their selfie over a diagram of the golden ratio. See what they did there?
They are in Portland so not a threat in the uk, but I still wouldn't interact with this individual's website unless you are are disguising you IP address. (Mumsnet mods. I have not misgendered or misrepresented this person).

Sorry, terrible pun, couldn't help myself.

DaisiesandButtercups · 06/11/2020 16:00

I heard Joe on you and yours. Pretty scandalous that he thinks people shouldn’t have the right to decide who they invite to house share with them. Surely it is better to specify what you want in a prospective housemate and reduce time wasted by everyone.

VulvaPerson · 06/11/2020 15:01

@ErrolTheDragon

Tangentially related to this - did anyone else hear a bloke on You&Yours earlier whining about discrimination - he's trying to find 'rent your room' type of accommodation , and was most miffed that they were allowed to specify women only which cut down his options by about 50% because of his 'gender', oh, and it made him feel bad or some such. He didn't get too much sympathy - people renting out space in their own homes can specify anything except race.
I know a few guys who get very very offended if they see job ads and such that specify women only. Why is that allowed, its obvious sexism..its making out all men are monsters when I am not, bet there would be hell on if anyone specified male only, men can do their jobs as well as, if not better than women, and so on Hmm

NAMALT on speed.

@Facefullofcake

I wonder whether he gets equally upset about the cards in newsagents I used to see in london, which he also couldn't apply for. They were men basically offering women accommodation in exchange for company, friendship and the unambiguous "more" [vomit]
ewww - that reminds me of when I was a student looking for a room to rent and responded to an advert. The guy I spoke was very friendly and chatty and had a lovely room available for me and then happened to mention that he 'met most of his girlfriends' through renting a room out to them.

I mentioned that I had a boyfriend and was looking for a room for both of us (it was a double advertised) and as if by magic the room was suddenly unavailable. Funny that.

Is the poor wee sausage upset that he can’t just move in with anyone he likes? Bless his little heart.

Cocothefirst · 06/11/2020 13:42
A related thread I started a week or so ago:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4058470-the-big-lie-how-the-wep-was-always-about-gender-rather-than-sex
I read your thread and the ones linked to it Eresh and saw a comment I made back in 2015 regarding how putting TW in female prisons would inevitably lead to rapists and sex offenders being incarcerated with women if said offenders declare they are women and look what happened.

All those who said that would never happen, we were being 'hysterical' and over dramatic, Karen White's victims are on your conscience.

Well, this was an interesting thread. Thank you all the fab FWR stalwarts arguing against JJ's tiresome bullshit. 👏

Facefullofcake · 05/11/2020 17:45

I just realised too that I did not conform to biological or societal norms/expectations about being born Hmm I was a very very premature baby, and not expected to survive.

My real due date was supposed to be bonfire night, and I've just realised today's date. I did naff all to celebrate my natal birthday this year.

I don't think I can alter my birth certificate to reflect the date I should have been born, but I expect you all to accept that this is my actual birthday and celebrate accordingly. I'm appreciating all the neighbours that have laid on fireworks for me Grin

At one point I said "the only other people who have made me feel able to talk to about this are internet feminists, and they have been amazing", because you have. Thank you all again the inadvertent space.

It chimes in with too other experiences where someone else's safety was prioritised over mine, and it contributed to me being directly put at further risk of harm.

My mum sent my brother and me to judo classes when I was 9 and he was 11. She was worried about him being bullied at school, and I got asked if I wanted to join too.
After a few classes, I got badly bruised when I got paired up with him and he threw me across the room.

My mum's response was that the lessons were too risky for me, and I stopped going.
My brother started abusing me around that time, and then he got added training in martial arts.

I believe that enabled him to use some of them in the physical violence I experienced, as well as making me believe he could cause serious injury if I didn't comply with him with the other stuff.

My ability to have a better chance of physically defending myself was taken away.

It's not the same thing, but the theme of
?power? ?safety? being awarded and removed, and its consequences, is in there somewhere.

HecatesCats · 05/11/2020 16:54

It's good to know that she was supportive and understanding Facefull, just as she should be. I'm so sorry about your past experiences Thanks

Escapeplanning · 05/11/2020 16:51

That's great to hear Faceful. Women speaking out more systematically in organised groups in the past two years has been so important.

Facefullofcake · 05/11/2020 16:47

Women will be guaranteed access to female-only lavatories in public buildings, the government has said.

I've actually just had a conversation with my housing support worker, and the Jones experience fell out (we were talking about previous triggers wrt my mental health disasters).

She pre-empted me on the point about single sex spaces being so fucking important, and was horrified by the safeguarding issues that they may have breached. It's the first irl conversation I've had about supporting single sex spaces, other than with a friend, and I apologised for feeling like I do. She said I absolutely didn't need to.

That felt huge - I was expecting to be given the equality/ex offenders deserve compassion and we should disregard their crimes/they wouldn't be out if they weren't safe/stop fussing/they're the exception spiel that I had a couple of years ago.
