GC Christmas shopping

I know it’s not even November yet but I’m starting to write Christmas lists early thanks to anticipation of COVID-chaos. I would love to support as many brave feminists as possible with my purchasing power.

So far I have:
The Ickabog/ Strike books by J.K. Rowling
Difficult Women by Helen Lewis
Embroidery patches by Jess de Wahls

Any more suggestions for Christmas gifts that will support the fearless women (or men) who’ve stuck their heads above the parapet?

The scarf is nice, but I don't wear scarves so not for me.

TheChampagneGalop · 25/10/2020 13:19

Oooh, I must buy the suffragette scarf! Subtle t-shirts like TeenPlusTwenties was looking for would be great too.

Great thread everyone. Bookmarked for reference! Thanks.

MsMarvellous · 25/10/2020 12:48

@HecatesCats my daughter and I discussed this as we have the book. We agreed that while we were very happy that he should be able to be who he wants to be, he shouldn't have taken a place in a book about women and girls!

HecatesCats · 25/10/2020 10:15

@SmallPug

Yes both Rebel Girls and boys books have trans kids in them. I was APPALLED at this normalising of children abuse.
It really sticks out. It's a book celebrating the achievements of remarkable women and then there's a page about a child who has been transitioned which starts: 'Coy loved dresses, the colour pink, and shiny shoes'. Wtaf. It's so regressive.

For younger girls (or indeed boys)

The 'Great Women who Changed' series by Kate Pankhurst. Includes women who had to dress as men to get what they want.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/10/2020 09:29

I have the radical feminist journal and a notebook from this site too for Xmas presents. Jaimi Shrive is the partner of Jessica Taylor who does all the work against victim blaming and poor practice with victims of CSE

In fact there is also Jessica's book and she has some merch on her site too

That "Cats Against the Patriarchy" tee shirt is excellent.

TeenPlusTwenties · 25/10/2020 08:44

Though I have just seen this bag www.newn.cam.ac.uk/products/courage-calls-to-courage-everywhere-tote-bag/

TeenPlusTwenties · 25/10/2020 08:41

I'd like a really subtle T shirt, so one in suffragette colours but no words or other pictures. I've been looking on and off, but so far failed to find one.
Anyone know of one?

Helmetbymidnight · 25/10/2020 08:19

for lovely pictures, calenders and t shirts of fabulous gc people, do follow 'the famous artist birdy rose' on fb. ive got a couple of lovely prints.

ParadeOfRemotes · 25/10/2020 08:15

Oh FFS I had that on my DS's wishlist but I'll take it off - thanks for the heads up!

Scout2016 · 25/10/2020 08:13

@ParadeOfRemotes àppatently the "Boys" version has two trans men in.

ParadeOfRemotes · 25/10/2020 07:20

Hmm. I bought a calendar from Traidcraft called 'Women of the World' celebrating 12 women of colour. Didn't think I could go too far wrong.

I've just looked up the artist Nadia Akingbule and she appears to have done some art for Lush and Stonewall on themes of being 'cis-gender' and gender diversity etc, so not likely to be a GC artist.

I didn't know that about the Rebel girls book Sad

Scout2016 · 25/10/2020 07:06

Rebel, even.
