Thanks Susanna I'm on it.

SusannaSpider · 24/10/2020 12:34

@MichelleofzeResistance

ImseVimse make reusable tampons. I've not tried them, found their nappies very good when DD was a baby. I keep meaning to try their sanitary pads, as they are fleece free.

It's fascinating. In a capitalist culture, buying things becomes part of our identity, of who we are. So brands respond by appealing to what their marketing teams see as the most popular identities and cultural views. A side-effect could be that brand endorsement of a group of people or lifestyle could validate that group, culturally, because our identities are so entwined with marketing. But everyone thinks they actually care. Really they are just using trans people to seem progressive and therefore get more sales. It's quite cold exploitation, in reality.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/10/2020 12:28

I have been seriously told that Tampax are rather good for immediate first aid staunching high velocity bullet wounds.

(I didn't ask why the person who told me this knew that: he isn't an American and has never been in the forces. I would have thought that what kills you would be the exit wound, but I suppose if it hadn't then you'd need to stop the bleeding at the entrance wound while you were getting proper medical assistance.)

So as well as being for women who menstruate, Tampax really are for people who bleed. Sort of. In a very highly specialised set of circumstances. I wonder whether the SAS carry a few Tampax at all times just in case...

midgebabe · 24/10/2020 12:28

For me women and transmen does not work.

Because it aligns with the idea that woman is an identity not a biological fact

I do not have an identity of women, it's just a sad fact of life. But I feel excluded by the trans community, partially because of their dismissivness of the impact of sex on people's lives, partly because I don't want to align to any gender identity, I just want to be me, accepted for who I am, with a respect and acknowledgment that my biology is not Male default.

I also don't actually think it's kind either, I think it's kinder to learn to accept your body as it is, than to try and convince yourself and others that they need to see you as a man in order to accept you are you are

TheChampagneGalop · 24/10/2020 12:28

@MichelleofzeResistance

it isn't enough to be inclusive. To be properly inclusive you have to be actively offensive to females who haven't identified into a higher caste.
Yes. You expressed that so well.
BaronessWrongCrowd · 24/10/2020 12:26

FFS Natracare and Mooncup as well Halloween Angry

Wow I've had over 200 likes for my comment on the Tampax thread. They really don't know their market.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/10/2020 12:25

If only those in Nepal had done that. Might not have been left to die in a hut then... Hmm

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/10/2020 12:20

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/10/2020 12:19

It's the zealous 'look, we've done Good Thing, we've made it clear to biological women they don't exist, they're just body parts and male people, plus female people who are identifying as male people and anyone else who identifies as Not People are the only people who now matter! Aren't we good little kiddies, where's our cookie?"

They'll be all ready with the reproachful tweets about how sad it makes them when horrible females won't joyfully embrace their erasure and this brave new world of male supremacism.

And baffled, when they realise female people's response is somewhere between an eye roll and oh do fuck off, while looking for another brand that's not so bloody misogynistic and anti-woman.

Someone please tell me: for those of us who can't use mooncups but hate the environmental mess of tampons, but have biology that is stubbornly refusing to get woke and be identified out of, and so bleed through pads like a stuck pig, are there any other alternatives? Because obviously I shall now leave tampax for those who wish to pop them up their bottoms. Rather like I now leave M&S for the enjoyment of those who spunk on the clothes and the changing room floors.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 24/10/2020 12:15

@SophocIestheFox

Fucking hell, who designed that graphic? Why don’t the women have faces Confused

That ratio is glorious.

Someone on the twitter thread commented that they had removed women’s faces as the easiest way to remove their voice...

OTOH by the ratio women are roaring Grin

doadeer · 24/10/2020 12:14

From a medical perspective menstrual health is often used as an indicator for overall health. How often do you go to the GP with concerns and you are asked how your periods are. If your body experiences a lot of stress or you drop weight for example, periods stop . This is all such important stuff thah women are routinely asked about. Men are not asked about this obviously!

Imnobody4 · 24/10/2020 12:03

Just had to share this, sorry. twitter.com/HerRoyalHeinous/status/1319949855926702080?s=09

tattooedmummy1 · 24/10/2020 11:58

@Imnobody4

Being serious though, do trans people really need to be spoken to in this patronising, babyish way all the time? They're grown adults, all this 'we see you and we weaally luffs you' guff is cringey. This is exactly what I'm thinking. What do transmen actually gain from this idiocy. Are they deluded enough to think that having a period can be normalised as a human rather than a female process. Doesn't it just draw attention to the fact that they are not biological males?

Why don't I see them clamouring for toilet facilities that allow privacy for washing a mooncup, or sanitary bins in every cubicle.
I suspect they recognise it as misogyny (if there's not a lucrative advertising contract involved)

I'm incredibly cynical and suspect it's less to do with inclusivity for transmen, and more to appease the "transwomen are biological women" crowd. We are not to discuss biological differences between TW and women, and certainly not to point out that they have no need to use tampons etc.
SusannaSpider · 24/10/2020 11:54

Thank you - refresh and reload works! (Kind of like a tampon... sorry, I'll get me coat).

PenguindreamsofDraco · 24/10/2020 11:53

On that twitter thread someone posted something v similar from Mooncup, so they may not be the answer for those of us who prefer to give our money to people who haven't completely lost their minds.

Malahaha · 24/10/2020 11:52

@SarahG6383

I’m confused about all the hate. Surely they are trying to include transgender men. Transgender men still bleed every month and I’m guessing here, don’t like being labelled as a woman? so I get it. So it’s including them too?
"Women and transmen" works just fine.

Updownin · 24/10/2020 11:50

Can you still get the lillets applicators tampons?

I liked them but they are hard to find. Tampax pearl work brilliantly for me sadly.

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/10/2020 11:45

SusannaSpider Twitter has been really glitchy for me lately (I'm not signed in either). I have to refresh the page a couple of times before it will load properly.

TheChampagneGalop · 24/10/2020 11:44

I also mostly use reusable items like cloth pads and a cup too btw. The great thing is that you never run out of them. Just wash and reuse. I bet the tampon companies are scared of their popularity. It won't help them to add to the erasure of the word women. So many have had enough.

Whatwouldscullydo · 24/10/2020 11:41

I'm the same, never been so happy to have gone reusable!

Its liberating isn't it. You don't realise just how shit the industry makes you feel about yourself . Do I smell is that why they are scented ? Do I have to endure the itching so I don't smell? Extra discretion...could you see the ones i was wearing before? You want to bill me extra now for a deluxe version so I dont leak or feel uncomfortable? Why aren't the good ones available for all?

Now the only dilemma I face is do I wear the whales or the bees?

Without the plastic and all the crap you dont feel sweaty or smelly or anything.

SusannaSpider · 24/10/2020 11:41

Are some Tweets blocked if you don't sign in? I ditched Twitter ages ago, but have always been able to read the links. But now I just get this message...

transisbeautiful and no mention of women being beautiful? Literal hateful literal exclusionary literal violence right there, literally.

You can show adults that you respect them without speaking down to them in a infantile manner.
