‘We’re takin it down now’??!

The mental health thread has been zapped. I suppose I should have expected it - I was feeling raw last night and probably opened up more than I should have on here. Lots of other women were frank and open about the impact of the current women’s rights issues on their mental health and it made for somber reading but fucking hell it was a testament to the feeling of so many women on here. And it was deleted because of the opening post, even though that was written over 2 years ago?! It wasn’t ‘civil’ apparently. I can’t remember what it said to be honest. Maybe it overstepped I don’t know. But I’m raging at the cavalier deletion message that ended with ‘we’re takin it down’ - sounds like something you’d say in a computer game. If my post contravened anything I would have appreciated a message from MN. Especially given the nature of the posts I would have expected some sensitivity rather than the gung ho deletion message.

I appreciate this will get deleted too as a TAAT but just thought I’d vent.

I would urge you to look into places like Argentina, Denmark, California and even Ireland where all the changes people seem terrified of are old news.

So... not Canada and parts of the US where discussions have become very common around the safety of women in prisons where they are housed with transwomen? Rape centres receiving threats? Women being prosecuted for not waxing someone’s balls? Young women losing their scholarships to males who started being beaten racing against males?

You are rather selective in your choices. And I think you are quite mistaken if you have not heard women voicing their concerns in Ireland and in Denmark.

So, that leaves Argentina... I am not sure that is a great example.....

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 21/10/2020 10:41

I am a bit confused.

I thought there were deletions on certain language because trans women found it so bad for their mental health?

And that trans women have been on here telling us how horrible we are for not accepting them and how bad that makes them feel?

But there is a whole discussion on whether women can talk about their own mental health and how that is affected in all this?

Is that correctly understood?

If so, why is that?

Winesalot · 21/10/2020 10:34

To call women discussing the effect of this constant monitoring of our language in life and the media ‘hyperbolic’ is akin to calling it hysterical. Well done.

It continues to show exactly what you think of women when you say things like that.

Clymene · 21/10/2020 10:26

I have mentioned this before but I got banned in early September very briefly because someone reported a post of mine on a thread that had less than 20 posts made on a single day in February.

No one had even bumped the thread but clearly the person who reported my post was trawling through old threads, looking for things to report.

MN did cancel the strike but it's very sinister.

HecatesCats · 21/10/2020 10:13

But you're talking about All Seeing Eyes demanding shutdowns of threads.

Well the thread has been focused on and discussed on Twitter. Twitter of all places, where hyperbole abounds. So it's not unreasonable to assume that it's been targeted.

TikTakTikTak · 21/10/2020 10:10

I agree with you both, I was radicalised by Mumsnet Halloween Grin having come from some other area of the site, and if you weren't all here I would have stayed "woke".

However, when I want to speak freely I can do so and get it all out so it does help to use both. And if I ever get banned here despite name changes, I'm still there.
It's just another tool we can use.
@yourhairiswinterfire You're right, that was a poorly chosen phrase and I apologise.
I disagree with you A LOT

But that was good of you

MaudTheInvincible · 21/10/2020 10:08

Yes, me too TreestumpsAndTrampolines. I found FWR over a decade ago from other child-related boards, and still mainly lurk. It's by far the most valuable part of the site for me.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 21/10/2020 10:03

Spinster is great, but the reason the stalkers want this board closed is because of women like me who find it via the other parts of MN.

This is a very good point.

I came here to FWR more than 10 years ago, after coming to MN because I was pregnant with my first and wanted to prepare.

I lurked for a long time because of the formidable women on FWR, and still only occasionally post. I'm so thankful I found it - the discussion here really helps me think things through.

porridgecake · 21/10/2020 09:58

@TikTakTikTak

I keep saying this: post here if you like, but do come to Spinster. You won't be censored there.
I came over here from the parenting threads. Spinster is great, but the reason the stalkers want this board closed is because of women like me who find it via the other parts of MN.
porridgecake · 21/10/2020 09:55

The Feminism board is, IMO, the most important, informative, educational board on MN. It brings in so much traffic. I have been on MN for years and this board is now the place I spend most of my time reading.
The derail, report, get thread deleted campaign is so obvious to the women who post here, I am puzzled and worried that the strategy is so successful.
I am very, very glad the original thread has been reinstated in this case.

MaudTheInvincible · 21/10/2020 09:52

And the idea that no one is complaining in Ireland or Denmark is laughable.

TikTakTikTak · 21/10/2020 09:52

I keep saying this: post here if you like, but do come to Spinster. You won't be censored there.

MaudTheInvincible · 21/10/2020 09:47

I don't see why women shouldn't be allowed to speak about the hate they receive for existing. I mean, we all know that there are people who would rather we were just docile and passive and kiiiiiiiiiiiiind like blow up dolls but they have absolutely no authority, moral or otherwise, to decide we can't speak, or to try to gaslight us, or to intimidate us or the forum we choose to use.

I think women should recognise these attempts to silence them for what they are, and talk all the more loudly in response.

Datun · 21/10/2020 09:46

This thread, this current thread, is actually very important.

You have people saying it's fine elsewhere, no one complains, whilst simultaneously watching complaints being censored and deleted.

And then the women involved being accused of making it up.

The purpose of the other thread, is happening right here.

And yes, all the people reporting old threads, are targeting certain people in those words. They should absolutely not be constituting current strikes.

Historic threads should be allowed to stand, unaltered. The rules were completely different.

porridgecake · 21/10/2020 09:41

There have been threads on Site Stuff about exactly this kind of thing over the last several weeks.
Whole threads being deleted following reports by the external monitors, often following stalking and derailing by the same, small number of posters.
I am very glad that the thread in question has been reinstated.
This is a really serious problem and has led to not only threads being deleted, but longstanding posters being banned.
MNHQ really do need to recognise this and think very carefully before acting on reports/deleting whole threads.

DeaconBoo · 21/10/2020 09:39

*I really don't think many women outside this forum would have recognised what was being described as the world they live in. I wondered if MNHQ had pulled it for that reason.
The same applies all over mn though. I read Coronavirus threads, politics, Relationships, AIBU, stuff about schools, even threads about having to do 4 loads of washing a day. It doesn't sound anything like my life and i can't imagine getting into some of the circumstances being described. Lots of them seem overly hyperbolic to me... lots. They don't get deleted. I don't think they should be deleted just because i don't understand the mindset being discussed.

@MichaelMumsnet can you please look again at how the reporting system is being gamed by old threads. This is ridiculously unfair.

persistentwoman · 21/10/2020 09:35

Always interesting to see which threads certain posters opposed to women on FWR pop up on. Mental health thread being discussed? Yup - here they are.

ChattyLion · 21/10/2020 09:32

we all know why this site is under such close attention.

Absolutely yes.

Quaagars · 21/10/2020 09:32

@AbsintheFriends

See, I think this is just verging on conspiracy theory territory

"whoa - you're crazy, you're overreacting, you're imagining things. You need to calm down. You're being irrational."

So many of us have heard all of that before.

Where did I tell you to calm down, being irrational? Don't put words in my mouth. You really don't think talking about Eyes is what I said? That we're being "forced into extinction" etc? OK fair enough. Do you.
caughtalightsneeze · 21/10/2020 09:27

See, I think this is just verging on conspiracy theory territory

Something that we can see happening, with our own eyes, and we're told we're imagining it. I wonder where women have heard that before...

FleetsumNLangCleg · 21/10/2020 09:25

Indeed, thanks to MNHQ for looking again.
