Leicestershire Police have a Facebook post in support of 'people going through the menopause'. They are getting stick for it,but not because they aren't using the word 'women',but for wasting time on SM instead of going their jobs.

Yeah have been saying fr years now, that if the word woman now simply means person/human, then we need a word for those of us that are one the female sex, because of course while we cannot be named, we do exist (funny really, TRAs say feminists are erasing transpeople, when it appears to be the other way around!) and need a way to name ourselves. Man seems fine to be used by men still. But if woman is so dirty and upseting, then we need new language.

Mind, it would take a grand total of a few minutes I would guess, if we did switch away from 'woman' to whatever other word..before TRAs started claiming they were this other thing too and its mean to say otherwise. When a lot of women started using 'female' instead, soon the TRAs were claiming to be female too. When a few women embraced the word 'cis', TRAs decided that they are actually 'cis women' Hmm Never ending.

Just re-read - you’re not. Thank God.

Lolaloveslemonade · 21/10/2020 13:56

When talking about menopause, it's only women though, so using 'people' means you're 50% likely to be wrong.

Are you saying that men know nothing about the menopause?

AmericanSlang · 21/10/2020 13:39

It's amazing how these organisations are massively interested in the menopause, when it's an opportunity to signal wokeness by not using the word woman in relation to something which only affects women. Meanwhile in non woke reality, the menopause is dismissed and under researched, precisely because it only affects women. I was told by my GP surgery that "our doctors don't do the menopause" when I sought help, and was condescended to by a patronising young nurse manager instead. I eventually got help by attending a private menopause specialist clinic, run by a female GP who was unable to get support to run a free NHS clinic for women struggling with menopause. But police forces are busy supporting "people" in menopause. Thanks for nothing, boys

NotBadConsidering · 21/10/2020 12:46

I wonder if they’ll offer support for the teenage girls and women in their 20s having menopause artificially induced by doctors using puberty blockers, cross sex hormones and hysterectomy to relieve the constant pain the aforementioned hormone treatments bring?

It is

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 21/10/2020 11:17

‘Other PEOPLE ? 😂

err yes - men are allowed opinions too - so 'people' is accurate.

Lolaloveslemonade · 21/10/2020 11:00

So why women feel the way they do isn't of interest to you, or engaging with anything they have to say.

Again, Michelle could you be be any more presumptuous?
Do you really think I would be reading the posts on this thread if I wasn’t interested in what was being said and the views of other people?
Am I only allowed to post if I agree with the OP? Or YOU?

FindTheTruth · 21/10/2020 10:42

that's some ratio on Leicestershire Police's tweet

Proves the point really.

Lolaloveslemonade · 21/10/2020 04:42

Michelle
Or maybe you're extremely naiive about the realities of other women and their lives that you haven't directly experienced. Try reading a bit, finding out why these women are saying what they're saying before you dismiss what you don't know about or understand as just not important. Because that's a bit arrogant and insensitive really, isn't it?

I honestly don’t think you could sound more pompous or be more presumptuous if you tried.

Lolaloveslemonade · 21/10/2020 04:39

Michelle You’ve just replied to my comment:
m a woman and using the word ‘person or people‘ doesn’t offend me at all. I don’t feel ‘erased’

with this:
‘How nice for you. smile Let me introduce you to this concept called 'other people' and their rights not being yours to give away because you personally don't have an issue‘

‘Other PEOPLE ? 😂

GrimSisters · 21/10/2020 04:37

I've seen the RAF have posted about it on FB too.

Goosefoot · 21/10/2020 01:36

I don't think it would have particularly bothered me, for example, if they say "in our policies we try to address the health and employment needs of menopausal officers," at least not as a thing in itself. I can see that they might feel it hits the note they want a little more, emphasising that individuals being affected in terms of their employment role.

It would also have been less confusing than either woman or people, which sounds like they are talking about women who have committed crimes due to menopausal rage, or gone all to pieces about their annoying neighbours.

I daresay that avoiding the words men or women is part of their communication policy. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they have avoided referring to officers as men or women since before the current reasons for doing so were part of the picture.

Antibles · 21/10/2020 01:27

”About 13% of people using condoms that go on a penis become pregnant within a year."

I am enjoying myself, imagining a bunch of alarmed men reading that, casting their condom packets away in terror and prodding any nascent beer guts with deep suspicion Grin

Antibles · 21/10/2020 01:13

Just looks like a wafer thin excuse to shoehorn trans into the spotlight once more.

I hope they don't start bringing vegetables into it like that other police force.

NRatched · 20/10/2020 22:07

The utter state of that facebook post from Leicestershire Police..wow. Ridiculous, totally ridiculous.

Aesopfable · 20/10/2020 21:21

”About 13% of people using condoms that go on a penis become pregnant within a year. For comparison, fewer than 1% of people using the hormonal IUD or the implant become pregnant while using these methods."

Yes, I remember reading a post stating that 90% of people were considering using reusable sanitary protection.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/10/2020 21:15

That Twitter thread..... the police quotes are gems Grin

'Not born female at birth' ……..??? You what now?

And the whole idea that women who stop menstruating stop being women and become 'people' instead.

It's like reading year 8 biology homework gone wrong.

yourhairiswinterfire · 20/10/2020 21:05

The real ripx4nutmeg retweeted this earlier (the account they're retweeting is called Ripxnut911, I don't think we've got an imposter Grin )

Leicestershire Police: Women are not defined by their ability to menstruate.

Also Leicestershire Police: We're going to define women by their ability to menstruate. And also include women who don't menstruate in our definition 'people who menstruate'. 🤯 See the knots you tie yourself in when you refuse to use the correct words?

Woman really is a dirty word now, huh? Good to see them admit it's so they don't hurt the feelings of people not born female, aka men, and the erasure of the word woman is actually nothing to do with including transmen at all.

Mollscroll · 20/10/2020 20:43

Next step is to move this to next month so we can have Menopause Awareness November and we can all be clear who really matters in all of this.

Only women go through menopause. Only women.

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/10/2020 20:39

I’m a woman and using the word ‘person or people‘ doesn’t offend me at all. I don’t feel ‘erased’.

Maybe I’m just not on high alert. Constantly on the lookout for things to offend me

When 'person or people' is used to define what a woman means for me it is hard not to feel that my own gender identity is not allowed anymore.

My gender is 'woman' because my whole life experience has been influenced by living in a female body. If that body now is gender-neutral, then what am I?

But it is of course true that a few examples of this type would be irrelevant. They are getting quite common, though. If you want to see a hilarious example of what happens when we replace 'women' with 'people' have a look at this health article from last February (www.npr.org/2020/02/19/807328672/trying-to-decide-what-birth-control-to-use-heres-how-to-make-the-decision)

Especially this:

"About 13% of people using condoms that go on a penis become pregnant within a year. For comparison, fewer than 1% of people using the hormonal IUD or the implant become pregnant while using these methods."

I wonder if they would be expressing support for 'people' having erectile dysfunction problems. Erasing 'women' and using 'people' means that every woman whose gender is based on their biological sex is told that they can't define their gender like that but must have some inner female essence in their heads which has nothing to do with their bodies. This privileges a small minority who doesn't want to be reminded of their bodies.
