ForwomenScot have been granted permission for a Judicial Review of the Gender Representation on Public Boards Act 2018.

This is excellent news. For those of you unaware, the Scottish Government legislated that there had to be equal number of men and women on boards. Of course, they defined women as including men, so For Women Scotland applied for, and have been granted, a judicial review. So frustrating that For Women Scot are facing this additional hurdle from Engender. And so unfair that the latter are government-funded - paid to undermine women's rights - while For Women Scot have to find the extra costs themselves. Access to justice enabled for one group and disabled for another. Wonder why that might be?

This is such an important case, particularly coming after Johann Lamont's passionate insistence on 'sex not gender'. And in the face of a shocking response by various misogynists: twitter.com/ForwomenScot/status/1337153665686245377

So sure of their argument they don't let anyone reply nice.
Not surprising that they appear to be strangers to the truth as they , only a couple of weeks ago, had to apologise to a Government Committee for misrepresention.

@334bu I just got the update from FWS. They say:

"A hearing was held this morning to determine whether Equality Network should be allowed to intervene in the case. Lady Wise allowed intervention of a written submission of no more than 5,000 words by 18th December - permitted on the basis it doesn’t include evidence, but quotes and ex parte statements...

Clearly this intervention will add considerably to our costs. Aidan O'Neill QC has already had to make an additional appearance in court and will now have to spend time addressing the contents of the intervention document."

Gardening at this time of year is difficult, but needs must.

Two government funded groups have been granted right to put a submission in at last minute, details above. This will of course involve more legal expenses for For Women Scotland.

Tbh i know there's a temptation to see Scotland as on the fringes of all this but we know that our country is being targeted, as was Ireland.
Religion and enlightenment. If they can topple us both, then everywhere falls.

Kind of sums up how important this is. If one government gets to redefine what a woman is then it makes it easier to tackle the next and the next and so on.

Bump! This is really important. If we allow the Government to change the meaning of woman then we will have no protection in law against sex discrimination.
