Thank you for sharing this video @SuperLoudPoppingActionn I hadn't seen it before but it's very informative

MeltsAway · 04/03/2021 17:15

Yes, wasn't it! Good to see so many there.

And we should all sign up for the fab Bec Wonders in a fortnight, talking about second wave feminist magazines. Bring out your old Spare Ribs !

Bec was involved in setting up the Vancouver Women's Library that got TRAshed.

Sarah did a Zoom seminar co-sponsored by Selina Todd this week. It was absolutely brilliant.

Anyone watching?

wellbehavedwomen · 14/10/2020 16:33

Given she was one of the speakers at the Edinburgh University women's event, which was violently protested for daring to platform gender critical women (someone tried to assault Julie Bindel) and that she attended FiLia, I think she is well aware of the ways in which women are being silenced right now, and is not on board with it.

An interview. And another, which doesn't at all sound dismissive of Mumsnetters - in fact she comments that someone asked if anyone could speak Farsi on one thread, and within an hour, a poster provided a translation.

This woman is a genuine feminist. No clue what her own position is re. women's rights where gender identity is concerned, but she is certainly wholly committed to letting women speak, and aware of the demeaning way our views, and hers, are so readily dismissed.

PotholeParadies · 14/10/2020 15:00

Why is it that the moment I became a mother, it became reasonable to assume I would only want to talk about weaning?

Why do they object to women talking so much?

@Antibles

'The personal is the political'
I remember that slogan. Very true. Although one unintended consequence has been the Identity Politics nightmare
Thelnebriati · 14/10/2020 13:26

If anyone attends, does she understand why women talking are always disrupted, and how that disruption is a political act?

EdgeOfACoin · 14/10/2020 06:51
@kattyboomboom no. They have a wide ranging chat going on same as we do here. It's just for petrol heads in the same way we are just for mums.
Agreed - I've been surprised at the breadth of discussions on Pistonheads. Also DigitalSpy.

ThinEndOfTheWedge · 14/10/2020 06:30

The site's discussion topics go far beyond traditional 'mothering' subjects and encompass politics, feminism and current affairs

What the hell is this patronising crap?

Has she never heard of the Mothers of la Plaza de Mayo - Argentina, the Mothers groups campaigning against violence against women in Mexico etc...?

How is being a mother this site doesn’t just have mothers NOT political/feminist/steeped in current affairs?

MsMarvellous · 14/10/2020 05:46

@kattyboomboom no. They have a wide ranging chat going on same as we do here. It's just for petrol heads in the same way we are just for mums.

kattyboomboom · 14/10/2020 04:14

Why do sites like pistonheads never get this much attention?

Isn't it just a site for petrolheads?

Goosefoot · 14/10/2020 03:28

Where have people traditionally discussed politics? I think wherever groups gathered socially, or working together. So no wonder a place with a lot of women would include discussion of politics.

It is interesting that in part because of it's anonymity, it has been able to be a place for people to have discussions that seem to be socially dangerous in the sorts of places we gather in person.
