I work in a multinational company with managers on the West Coast. We're all PhD scientists but we still sometimes get confused when the clocks change a couple of weeks adrift.

Australia has three time zones as well, but Queensland is out of step with the rest of the East coast for at least some of the year which gave me coniptions in a motel room when I turned on national news and thought I was going to miss my flight from Brisbane to Luganville!

It took me a while to get my head around the fact that China has only one time zone for the whole massive country, which goes across five standard time zones. So in the summer the sun can be in the middle of the sky (so what you'd think should be about noon) at 7am in the eastern regions, and in the winter you don't get sunrise till 10.30am in the western regions. It must be really weird! You go forward 3 and a half hours just by walking across a border!

Possibly my own DD made the comment...when DD1 was in Vancouver for a year DD2 couldn't work out time zones and wouldn't listen to my explanation. She flounced off saying "It's stupid, the time should be the same everywhere".
I must admit, it took me a while to get my head around the fact that America has different time zones within the same country Smile

Don’t understand the “lives rent free in your mind” thing. I’ve seen it a lot recently. Seems just like a newer version of “why are you so obsessed with me?” in response to any remote criticism. Having thoughts or opinions on something is normal.
