I am usually a lurker on this board, and have read a bit here about Magdalen Berns. I found this and it made me feel ill it is so vicious and cruel. mobile.twitter.com/sineadactually/status/1314985057937956864

No wonder so many feminists are too scared to speak out, if this is the resulting hate, even after death....

I've agreed it was a sweary rant, I've agreed it wasn't polite or kind.

I don't agree that it's inciting hatred.

I do think it's disgusting that people are mocking a young woman having died.

If you watch Magdalen's videos she's very clear that she is fine with blokes presenting as they wish, she just knows they can't become women. She's extremely logical and reasonable.

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 22:53

It's simply a point about cultural appropriation, in the same way people speak about blackface, made in very strong terms and unpalatable for many

Yes, I know.
The fact you can't see the transphobia in that and preface it with a "simply" to boot says it all.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:52

Obviously lesbians are women. I should have said "and in particular lesbians' rights"

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:51

Her anger is about what this ideology has done to women's and lesbians' rights.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:50

It's simply a point about cultural appropriation, in the same way people speak about blackface, made in very strong terms and unpalatable for many. It also fails to endorse the gender identity ideology position that the males to whom she refers are women. She doesn't believe they are. That's all.

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 22:46

And that was one time when MB wasn't being polite or kind

How can you say that (assuming) you've read it?
I can only surmise you must be absolutely fine with that level of transphobia and hatred if so.
It's not a case of "just a woman being rude" I mean, what?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:45

Nobody, anywhere, has said any of that is OK.

Yes they have. And if you genuinely didn't know that, considering how many threads you've been on which have mentioned it, you aren't paying very much attention.

testing987654321 · 11/10/2020 22:42

And of course women don't have to be kind and polite at all times, fuck that.

Exactly. And that was one time when MB wasn't being polite or kind.

Or do you only believe what you say until you come up against an actual example of it in practice?

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 22:38

Women must be kind and polite at all times. If they ever step out of line, if they ever get angry, if they ever say something unkind, then they are fair game for the most despicable of abuse to be rained down on them, even when they are dead

Nobody, anywhere, has said any of that is OK.
Anyone who does send abuse/threats is disgusting, goes without saying.
And of course women don't have to be kind and polite at all times, fuck that.
There's a world of difference between inciting and whipping up hate and mistrust between a minority group and "women being rude" though and I don't get how people can't or won't see that.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:37

Yes, it's just the same misogynist crap all over again. Males can threaten physical and sexual violence, try and get women sacked from their jobs, lecture women about what they are and what they are not, and what feminism is and is not.

Women must be kind and polite at all times. If they ever step out of line, if they ever get angry, if they ever say something unkind, then they are fair game for the most despicable of abuse to be rained down on them, even when they are dead.

Yes, precisely.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 11/10/2020 22:34

Same 'aul shite.

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 22:34

She is not inciting violence

It does incite hatred though, if not violence.
Maybe people are OK with that, but I'm not.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/10/2020 22:33

Pointing out the parallel between white people wearing blackface and male people identifying/presenting as women is controversial but I think it's a perfectly reasonable way of seeing it. I don't see how it is "racist" per se, but I do understand that many black people don't think it's a valid comparison and may find it personally offensive, so I don't generally use it myself.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 11/10/2020 22:26

who is Sinead Actually? A transwoman?

DialSquare · 11/10/2020 22:23

I don't expect everyone to agree with her tweet. I do expect anyone condemning her tweet to also condemn the sick disgusting behaviour of someone gleefully mocking her death though. It's almost like some people think she deserved that.

testing987654321 · 11/10/2020 22:19

A sweary rant

Versus people mocking the fact that she died far too young. I know who's side I'm on.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/10/2020 22:16

How can anyone defend that tweet though?

So she lost her rag and screamed at her abusers. So what? Who wouldn’t break under relentless attack? Where is she threatening violence, trying to get them sacked or wishing harm on their children? Nowhere. All those are routine TRA tactics. A sweary rant is not in the same league as the death threats and drooling rape fantasies they showered her with.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 11/10/2020 22:08

@Quaagars

They keep using that single tweet because it's the only thing they have

How can anyone defend that tweet though?
You say "the only tweet they have,"
It doesn't stop it being said, however much it's minimised.
It's beyond me how people can be OK with it.

It's a rude tweet from a woman who does not believe that men can become women, who believes that men dressing as women is a fetish (do you believe that that doesn't exist as a fetish?), who believes that women's oppression is not something that can or should be appropriated by men, and who compares men putting on 'womanhood' like it's a costume to white people wearing black face.

There is nothing threatening in the tweet, she doesn't call for anyone to be raped, to die, to choke, to be punched etc. She is not inciting violence.

No, I don't particularly think it's an OK thing to write, it's very harsh and rude, but it comes from a woman who was fucking sick of seeing the oppression of her sex appropriated by males. She didn't always go high, but JKR always does, and look at the shit that she gets, so what is the point anyway?

And, as we keep saying, it's the only example of 'transphobia' that these people can find out of the 17,000 tweets that are still available for all to see on Magdalen's twitter. If she was really hateful, there would be loads of examples wouldn't there? I cringe every time they roll it out, not because of the tweet itself particularly, but because its always the same one!

nancybotwinbloom · 11/10/2020 19:48

Dickheads.

All of them.

I found her quite late and I found her because of these boards and I could listen to her all day.

She was so good at putting her point across.

I loved her voice. She was just amazing to listen to speak.

She was great and it was so unfair what happened to her like it is with a lot of good people.

notyourhandmaid · 11/10/2020 19:44

You'd think if transphobia was everywhere it'd be easier to find.

You'd think basic human decency would stop you gloating and celebrating over the death of anyone.

Sad
NRatched · 11/10/2020 18:53

They will never stop the misrepresentation and hate. Yet, thats what 'we' are accused of Hmm I have noticed a trend, of ganging up on anyone who mentions Magdalen and bringing up this blackface quote to make out she was racist, when quite obviously to anyone who can read, it was meant in that way AT ALL.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/10/2020 17:50

How's it going... still inspiring women and causing TRAs to make themselves look really bad, even from beyond the grave.

Branleuse · 11/10/2020 17:25

ah that just made me want to go and watch and share some magalen videos

Boxty · 11/10/2020 16:19

Archbishop Comerford of Wokeus Dei is particularly obsessed with her I notice.
