I agree with everything he says here. Which of course does not mean I agree with everything he said or thought ever. That this needs to be said these days is just, bizarre Hmm

Scottish Tax goes towards all the normal things that taxes go on in Scotland, including a whole lot that the English don't get such as free prescriptions, free university education, free fruit and veg in Supermarkets, and more, that are subsidised by English tax payers...

Lol, righto

What are you "lolling" about? Do you think these things are affordable without the input of general UK taxation? Scotland spends more than it earns.

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 13:55

Oi! I'm called ArcheryAnnie, and I'm speaking on this platform, thank you very much!

I mean, you listen to him if you want to, Dido, but he's no friend to women. He's just a tedious joke.

DidoLamenting · 06/10/2020 13:43

@ArcheryAnnie

George Galloway is an utter irrelevance, and his opinion on this or anything else is also an irrelevance.
His opinion has at least as much relevance as yours. Probably more - given he is not anonymous and has a platform to speak from.

@cloudylemonade13

Where exactly is it you think Scottish tax revenues go?
I take it you are unaware of the enormous deficit in the Scottish budget?

He isn't the 'voice of reason'.

He only sounds like the voice of reason if you compare him to a cult.

ArcheryAnnie · 06/10/2020 10:47

Er, yes, DoublePat, it is. I happen to agree with him on this issue, and disagree with him on many others, but it makes no bloody difference what he thinks, because he's an absolute joke and an irrelevance. He's certainly no friend to women.

DoublePatRelease · 06/10/2020 10:29

That's just your opinion, right?

If it's raining (statement of fact) and someone I dislike says it's raining, I'd agree with them.
Even if someone else (anyonymous internet user) said the rain comment was actually a subconscious comment on climate change or was because they wanted to sell me an umbrella.
Their 'suspected' motivation doesn't change the truth of the fact.

DoublePatRelease · 06/10/2020 10:06

I like what George says. Didn't he once go and tell the Americans off for the Iraq debacle? Or was it Afghanistan? Anyroad, I agree with pp about the hat.

Why is independence nonsense?

It's patently nonsense- far more nonsensical than anything involving trans. Given what is happening with Covid I seriously question the intelligence of anyone supporting it. What a mess Scotland would be in if the UK coffers weren't available to pay for everything.

7Days · 05/10/2020 23:07

But really its about the truth though. It's the truth no matter who says it.

You cant hide the truth or disregard it because some bad actors will use it for their own gain.

And encouraging tribalism on the grounds of ideological purity is a really bad idea when it comes to proper critical thinking and any hope of a discourse that may actually get results.

jj1968 · 05/10/2020 22:55

@Gncq

You're arguing with a caricature of a trans activist that you've invented in your head, how about engage with what I actually said. Which was mostly that George Galloway is a misogynist prick who has waded into this conflict for the same self serving reasons he's waded into everything else and not because he gives a shit about women.

Gncq · 05/10/2020 22:42

This is playing Bingo now though,

Gender Critical must now mention...
Right Wing
Racist
Islamophobic
Misogynistic
Anti Semitic
Conservative
Anti LGBT
Anti trans
Alligned with Putin

You've missed Nazi.

If you agree with Galloway on this then you agree with people who agree with people who agree with people who agree with Eugenics... Therefore you agree with Eugenics.

Rainbow logic🌈

@SirSamuelVimes

Ah, so he's always been a secret conservative?! What fine psychological insights you have.
No, not a secret conservative, but socially conservative in some ways - by which I should clarify that he's a misogynist prick who is vehemently anti-abortion, and thinks rape is merely bad sexual etiquette.
SirSamuelVimes · 05/10/2020 22:24

Ah, so he's always been a secret conservative?! What fine psychological insights you have.

jj1968 · 05/10/2020 22:18

I think he's saying it because he's always had a socially conservative streak and thinks that men should be men and women should be women, but also because he thinks he's found a potential constituency amongst some GC people for whatever his political project is this week. He probably also thinks he can offset some of the many accusations of misogyny by trying to appeal to gender critical women.

And the fact he is saying it on a news outlet which only exists as a propaganda vehicle for a vehemently anti-LGBT Putin tells it's own story.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/10/2020 22:01

So what insight do you believe you have gained about George Galloway's motives? What does he "actually mean"?

jj1968 · 05/10/2020 21:57

@SirSamuelVimes

I don't think who is saying it is important in the "how can you possibly listen to and agree with X, they're BAD and WRONG and so are you if you agree with them", no. I think that's incredibly childish and intellectually lazy.
It's not about that. As an example, you often used to hear BNP and other far right activists ranting about Muslim terrorists one day and the next day turning up to an anti-Israel rally condemning the evil Jews treatment of the poor Palestians. Of course they didn't give a shit about either side, their aim was to stir up racial tension and often to spread disinformation. It was only by knowing who they were, and what they stood for, that you could even deduce what they actually meant.
