Signing off with a final sentence - 'there are many, many stereotypes associated with our gender. But our SEX we share.'

Hopefully she will go on to speak more about this once she has exited woke central.

XP with everyone Blush

@nauticant

Did anyone just hear the headlines on Radio 4? They're reporting Jenni Murray's statement about many types of women but are specifically neglecting to include what she said about "our sex". This really couldn't be more transparent if they tried.
I heard the lunchtime headlines on R4 and they played the clip where she said sex Smile

I was on the kitchen floor scrubbing all the grime that collects in the corner of the kick board and just caught the end of the show ... I burst into tears when she said that last sentence!! And I'm not a crier.

SisterWendyBuckett · 01/10/2020 13:43

Dame Jenny you are incredible Thanks

Reasoned, sane and measured - and now no longer censored.

Mollyollydolly · 01/10/2020 13:32

I love this woman. Used to chat to her having a fag outside work at Oxford Road. Was always slightly terrified of her, but admire her so much. Can't wait to see where she goes next.

Datun · 01/10/2020 13:31

@AbsintheFriends

Yes, it did feel like a very emphatic way to sign off. Not so much a goodbye as the start of another conversation.

I bet she can't wait. She's unbuckling the scold's bridle as we speak!

I love that image.
PaleBlueMoonlight · 01/10/2020 13:17

Agh, was On wrongthread! Yes, absolutely wonderful to hear those words on the news. What a world we live in.

seadreaming2020 · 01/10/2020 13:13

*at the BBC

seadreaming2020 · 01/10/2020 13:13

Proper quote on news just now - what a woman !
Must feel great leaving with the last word like that, a big F You to all the silencing she has suffered as the BBC

Angryresister · 01/10/2020 13:08

Back in on news at One!

SquishySquirmy · 01/10/2020 12:10

I can definitely recommend listening again in full. I found hearing those words within the context of the program )and alongside the music) particularly powerful. I am going to listen again because I missed some of the earlier discussion.

JaJaDingDong · 01/10/2020 12:05

Go Jenni!

That's my girl/cervix haver!!

RozWatching · 01/10/2020 12:05

It's the full quote now. Superb, Jenni Flowers

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2020 12:05

Fabulous!!

nauticant · 01/10/2020 12:05

Haha! In the midday headlines they not only broadcast JM's words but did so in their entirety including "our sex".

SquishySquirmy · 01/10/2020 12:04

At the end of the news (just now) they played a quote of her final words, no paraphrasing.

EBearhug · 01/10/2020 12:04

They quoted it all on the midday R4 news.

EBearhug · 01/10/2020 11:47

Jennifer has been there since my school days. I'm glad there was a break before my 11am work call.

PatchworkElmer · 01/10/2020 11:42

👏

AbsintheFriends · 01/10/2020 11:36

And actually, it's even more powerful on a second listen, set against Joan Baez singing Diamonds and Rust.

Thank you Jenni Murray. Perfectly done.

Listen again available now. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000mytx

The whole programme is well worth listening to, but the sign off can be heard at 40 minutes in.

The BBC news website does not include Jenny's final quote.

nauticant · 01/10/2020 11:24

Maybe it's just me but when you Listen Again you'll notice that in that part of her sign off she talks about different types of women and gender and stereotypes in a way that had my heart sinking and then the handful of words about "sex" was like a shot of adrenaline.

I'm not sure I've got exactly right what she said. It will be worth taking a proper transcription.

But do listen to the midday bulletin. They might repeat the selective quoting.

LizzieSiddal · 01/10/2020 11:24

It might be because they didn't know in advance that she would say the final part of that sentence?

Very true. You can imagine the BBC Woke brigade, panicking as they heard it.

Thesuzle · 01/10/2020 11:23

AbsinthFriends - you nailed it
