This is a harrowing read.
I feel immensely sorry for the child that was. However I feel more frightened for the women and children G might be incarcerated with.

The replies on that tweet are heartening...people aren’t buying this crap. I can see common sense breaking through.

Iamanaubergine · 01/10/2020 20:21

Totally out of order for a political representative. I wonder what her constituents think.

@Iamanaubergine

Sorry I’m not in Ireland but have you seen this mobile.twitter.com/elisaodonovan/status/1311708313172803584 from a councillor in the area?
Did you see what she said about it earlier??I’ve got no idea what is wrong with her.

We can not and must not stigmatise them as a community with a predilection towards sex crimes

Are we still permited to stigmatise men in general as a community with a predilection towards sex crimes? Or is barring that the next step?

(We're not making any claims about "the trans community", we're making claims about "the male community". Trans status is irrelevant.)

Runnersos · 01/10/2020 19:04

When I raised concerns that the law as it stands could be abused by sexual predators who would use it to their advantage ( I wasn't saying trans people were sexual predators). This was the reply

"The trans community like all other communities will have a proportion of people within it who will commit heinous crimes. That is what the criminal law is there for. We can not and must not stigmatise them as a community with a predilection towards sex crimes"

Do yes heinous crimes may happen, and the law will deal with them??
Is that supposed to be a comfort to the victims of the heinous crimes. Its better to have women as collateral damage than cause a stigma?

"Is one of you called Margaret? I just received a reply from Jennifer Carroll MacNeil addressed to Margaret (not my name) and saying they will pass my concerns onto Jennifer, even though reply was from Jennifer .

She is new Fine Gael equality spokesperson."

"Yes!!! So glad I name changed for all of this!"

The assistant must be getting a bit flustered with the cut and paste!!

Glinnerisgreat · 01/10/2020 16:59

Yes I will follow up on that. Especially since I now seem to be the name they use to reply to everyone 😂😂😂

SecondRow · 01/10/2020 16:58

They've deleted comments on that FB post too, I read one highly critical of their nonsense then it was gone. FB shows me there's 4 comments now but when I click I see 2.

Cailleach1 · 01/10/2020 16:56

So, what they are saying is that is that if a man 'identifies as a woman' (is into magic think in my mind) all threat has been magically dissolved.

Despite efforts to falsify records as a woman's crime when the purported angelic entities which are transwomen attack and rape women, some incidents have been publicised despite attempts to cover up.

And actually, it is enough that women are distressed or discomforted, never mind potentially under threat of assault from natal males. That TD above said women in prison don't deserve to be safe. Why are they going to the ends of the earth to pander to (what I believe) are delusions and simply desires for Transwomen. Walking over women to do it.

So this homicidal misogynist is no threat to women. When women are the only people they have attacked. When they have stated they wanted to rape and kill. That is what that 'Limerick Feminist (sic) Collective' have the bare faced gall to try and falsely sneer at women's concerns. Like every accomplice who covered up and shoved abusers along to do it again. Dismantling safeguarding from people who cannot protect themselves. The are beneath contempt.

In fact, if the percentage of non-transwomen identifying male offenders in prison who have committed sexual crimes is normally 20%, and the percentage of transwomen in prison who have committed sexual crimes is 50% or over, then the figures would lead you to the opposite conclusion. And don't forget those figures may be not the full number as tranwomen's sexual crimes may be put under female crimes.

These percentages are on these boards.

Runnersos · 01/10/2020 16:32

I am not a constituent of Joan Collins either. But I didn't say I was in my email. It was an email I sent out to highlight the issues and to make the TDs realise that this was not as straightforward as it looked. That self IID mpacted other people and this needed to be considered.

XXOnly · 01/10/2020 16:31
Yeah Runners. All she had to reply to you was whether she would be doing anything about your issue as a TD, or not.

Anyway, here's a comment from Limerick Feminist Network Hmm
m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1374030282792034&id=200644053464002
They owe an apology to the child that the transman in Limerick Women’s Prison sexually assaulted. A child!
They owe an apology to the women that the same transman sexually assaulted.
They owe an apology to the care worker assaulted by Barbie Kardashian, to the two others Barbie inflected sexual assaults upon.
Reprehensible.

Vanillanelle · 01/10/2020 16:19

I have had a couple of "I'll pass your email on" responses from parliamentary assistants. Micheal Martin's office has forwarded my email to Helen McEntee. I got the same reply from Ivana, so went back to her thanking her for her work to date and agreeing that the balance of rights is the crux. Fingers crossed she's listening, she's a smart and dedicated woman and I really admire her. I got a reply from Rape Crisis saying they will forward my email to Noeline Blackwell. I haven't got anything from Joan Collins. I'm not a constituent and didn't say I was so she migt ignore me. Much like my own local TDs are so far Hmm.

Limerick Feminist Collectice are a disgrace.

3timeslucky · 01/10/2020 15:52

A feminist group that places women as a subcategory of women are not a feminist group

I agree 100% but that's the flavour of Irish "feminist" groups these days (the post-Repeal hijacking of Irish feminism). If politicians are called upon to get input from Irish women where are they going to go? NWCI? Where do they go and who do they talk to? Right now they can maintain they get input from women's organisations. The level of infiltration is terrifying.

wellbehavedwomen · 01/10/2020 15:45

@Kantastic

Limerick Feminist Collective: Trans women are not a threat to cis women... The notion that cis men are pretending to identify as female, changing their names and obtaining certificates of gender recognition just to get access to abuse and victimise women is not only ludicrous but completely inaccurate and a narrative that makes trans women incredibly unsafe.

How is it POSSIBLE for that to be the response to this occurrence. HOW. IDGAF about Barbie's gender identity, but even if you're a gender identity believer you must concede that he's either a "trans woman" or "a cis man pretending to be a trans woman."

If trans women are not a threat, and cis men don't pretend to be trans women, then I guess the only logical conclusion is that women aren't actually under threat when they have clumps of their scalp torn away and their eyelids scratched off. It's a small sacrifice to make for trans inclusion!

See attached photo of Limerick Feminist Collective having a meeting.

Trans women pose the exact same risk as any other male. No more, no less. The data is clear.

If the Limerick Feminist Collective don't think male people pose any elevated risk to female people, what are they for? Why do we need feminism?

Again, the stupidity of this argument is really exasperating.

NiceGerbil · 01/10/2020 15:44

Hold on so they are asserting categorically that Barbie is NOT a threat to women!

Phew! We can all relax.

They need to get the charges against Barbie dropped now obviously.

wellbehavedwomen · 01/10/2020 15:43

@Runnersos

Well I received areply from Joan Collins TD, which was so appalling that I am completely shocked that any public representative would send out to a member of the public. Basically she called me mean spirited, base, an oppressor,, and that I was using slurs and insinuations. She also said I used many characterisations of trans people as sex offenders, which I didn't. Finally she accused me of being homophobic. Truly, truly appalling. I get the feeling she thinks I am a TERFBiscuit
I am so tired of the stupidity of this argument.

Of course transwomen aren't all sex offenders - but all transwomen are male.

Of course all males aren't sex offenders - but almost all sex offenders are male.

People will on the one hand trumpet loudly that VAWG is a male problem - and then pearl-clutch and shriek at any suggestion that male people, posing the standard male risk, should be placed in the same risk category as all other males. Because women don't matter when male women are in the picture, for some reason (that, heaven forfend, is in no way sexism).

All women are equal, but male women are more equal than others. But it's not sexist. Oh no.

SerenityNowwwww · 01/10/2020 15:41

Never not ever? Even when there is no checks and balances against bad people saying things and pretending?

Wow. I admire their optimism.

3timeslucky · 01/10/2020 15:41

@Glinnerisgreat

Second reply received - from Jennifer Carroll MacNeill - I note the concerns you have raised with me and thank you for raising them - wow, what a no comment reply. I had expected a lot more from her based on other work she has done.
Based on past experience that's often the kind of reply you get when their support person is dealing with their correspondence but I would expect them to make it clear who was writing back to you. Would you write back and challenge the reply on the basis that you expect more from her based on her background and work done. Getting a rote reply doesn't mean you have to let it go at that ;-)

Runnersos · 01/10/2020 14:58
@Runnersos - I have just had a response from Ivana Bacik. It lists her history of feminist activism and states that she was involved in the GRA act (I knew this already). She said that she has received a lot of similar letters from women on this and will be raising it with the relevant authorities. A bit plamasy and not really saying yes or no to me, but more than I expected seeing as there was a risk I would publish it.

However, what is shows is numbers count - the only thing a TD cares about is the number of people irate at a particular issue. So we need way, way, more women writing these letters.

Please, everyone, get your friends and family involved to write - the number of letters from women will determine the actions to follow.

We have crossed the rubicon here ladies and there is no going back until the GRA is totally repealed (the irony!!!).
I received a reply from Ivana. It sounds identical to yours. At least she acknowledged the issues and the need to balance rights.
And she was polite. Smile

MadamBatty · 01/10/2020 14:04

Runners I’m feckin raging that an elected representative would amount to name calling. I’m not in JC constituency but I wonder are any more women here? Get more to write to her to show her abuse?

A feminist group that places women as a subcategory of women are not a feminist group.
Clearly a convicted sex offender, with multiple convictions, is a threat to women. Anyone that denies that has lost the plot.
They seem more annoyed that they weren't contacted for comment than anything else.
Considering that nobody has ever heard of them, it was unlikely to happen Wink
