This is a harrowing read.
I feel immensely sorry for the child that was. However I feel more frightened for the women and children G might be incarcerated with.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

@ColleagueFromMars

Well this is the stuff of a horror film being allowed to unfold in front of us...

From the perspective of the general population, this person's biological sex matters very little in my view. They are very clearly a real, immediate and severe threat to any women they come into contact with.

From the perspective of female prisoners, it's vital and terrifying news. If ever there was a crystal clear case this this person should not be held in a female detention facility...

I think in the last link on the deleted thread, the judge was not automatically making the decision to use the women's prison. But I don't know if there are powers there to revoke the GRA certificate. If the GRA certificate is valid I don't know if there is anything the judge can do.

But... this never happens!

Sexnotgender · 26/09/2020 08:41

The newspaper link clearly states they are male but identify as female. I assume that’s a recent addition.

RomeoLikedCapuletGirls · 26/09/2020 07:54

Awful. Just awful.

Custardcream1244 · 26/09/2020 07:52

I am not sure why the other thread was pulled. This is being openly discussed on boards.ie.

Custardcream1244 · 26/09/2020 07:34

So we have a situation where anyone can declare themselves a woman in Ireland. No medical diagnosis, no Garda vetting (not that that would have been sufficient in this case). No hormonal therapy, no surgery required. All they need is to 'feel' like a woman (or if you are a sexual predictor, spot an opportunity).
There was no risk impact done prior to the legislation being brought in.

We had the word woman removed from the cervical screening programme, despite all the well documented problems with the service.. This seems to have been done with the sole purpose of not wanting to upset trans women, with no concern given to the risk it created for marginalised women with poor literacy skills or women with English as a second language.

There is a transwoman, who has not taken any hormone treatment who is a convicted sex offender housed in a woman's prison.

We have a homicidal teenager who has already attacked women, who has openly stated the intent to kill and rape women. Yet, the courts were willing to put the lives of women at risk rather than misgendering the teenager.

Women's rights groups remain silent, as they now represent trans women too. So they have a conflict of interests.
No political party has a problem with this.
The trans lobby provide educational materials for schools.
There are plans to expand Self ID in the programme for government.
But if this government fails the next government also has no problems with it all. In fact they are patting themselves on the back for how 'progressive' they are.

So basically, Irish women are screwed.
Have I got that right?

NiceGerbil · 26/09/2020 06:30

Previous thread on this got zapped.

Just FYI.

Seems misgendering is a worse thing than a homicidal manic (shorthand- which surely is fair given the police in the whole of Ireland were warned) being out and an about and described in a way that is totally misleading.

Look out for a girl!

Yeah that's really helpful.

I'm glad the Garda found a reason to nick this person and pray they have enough to keep them away from the public.

I have no fucking idea why they were bailed in the first place FFS.

HeirloomTomato · 26/09/2020 06:06

There should be a law that someone's real sex is stated in criminal cases.

Agreed. The behavior described in that terrifying article is just not seen in females. The level of aggression and desire to hurt and violate others, especially to violate women, is almost unheard of in female criminal psychology. Leaving out the birth sex of the person is lying to the public and we can all see through it. Why maintain this ridiculous lie to help criminals in their goals of accessing vulnerable women and girls to abuse them?

ItsaPeppaPink · 26/09/2020 00:04

@Custardcream1244

Did any political party oppose the GRA Bill.
Nope, not a single one..... So terrified of being labelled anti-something or other they said yes to everything without reading the fine print....

Cailleach1 · 25/09/2020 22:40

Jeez, the hubris. I'm laughing at the self-congratulatory bs. Why stop there. Surely it is the most progressive legislation in the Universe. Right up there with Iran.

^Sinn Féin Senator Fintan Warfield, who last year introduced a Bill to update the legislation, called for the report’s immediate publication.
He said there had been “rumours that it was positive”.^
Mr Warfield said the 2015 Act was “one of the most progressive pieces of legislation in the world” with the exception of the provisions for children under 16 and those in the 16/17 age category.

Men lives won't be under one iota of stress because of this legislation. They won't have any vulnerability Transmen (quite the reverse) or there won't be unfairness in sport etc. They won't face any of the impingement that women could face. Some more than others. It could disproportionately affect certain groups, women in prison and refuges.

DeRigueurMortis · 25/09/2020 22:32

How utterly chilling.

Cailleach1 · 25/09/2020 22:08

This was the review of the Gender Recognition Act 2015.

assets.gov.ie/36889/825dd1e75f1b43b284a1a245a1710e1c.pdf

It appears to be fairly hubristic, carefully linking it (false equivalence) to the right to equal marriage. The Yogyakarta Principles referred to. Reference to women related to 'fears of ciswomen (sic)' rather dismissively, as the last box in table 1.1 amongst several other points. Look at the number of submissions for all the issues in that box.

When you see the lies peddled by certain Trans cheerleading organisations, I would take all that with a tonne of salt.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see a similar document for sex, especially principles relating to women. Why is there no pressure for that? Especially now we know the Irish court system will choose to lie rather than let women be made aware of a danger to their person, if not their lives.

Cailleach1 · 25/09/2020 21:16

What would happen to the women in prison? At least you'd have some chance of getting away if you weren't locked up.

I wonder what is really going on? If the courts direct that women are lied to when their very life could be at stake, they certainly aren't going to be treated with any respect as equal citizens for anything lesser.

Kantastic · 25/09/2020 21:06

If information deemed to be prejudicial is freely available online, then the defence might argue that it wouldn't be possible to have a fair trial, should things reach a jury, I think?

Am I being an idiot here or will the "prejudicial" information in question not be immediately obvious as soon as the jury sees this person?

Actually is there even going to be a trial? I thought they'd been let go because for some reason announcing a clear and credible intention to kill a specific victim isn't enough reason for the police to detain this person? (at least, not when the intended victim is female.)

littlbrowndog · 25/09/2020 21:06

But I have seen this on twitter

This dangerous person ffs. What is going on tha5 this is suppressed

littlbrowndog · 25/09/2020 21:04

💪 to the Irish feminist s here

Great to see you all 🥂

notyourhandmaid · 25/09/2020 21:04

@Thirder

I had no idea it was a trans teenager after reading numerous articles on it recently. I was wondering how a girl can threaten to rape someone. Now it makes sense. Why was that not mentioned in any newspaper?
Apparently there was a court order not to mention the birth sex (different court to the district court).

In Irish law it is possible for a woman to rape someone because the offence includes penetration with an object, but yeah, it's not really a threat a woman makes, is it?

It's sickening.

wellbehavedwomen · 25/09/2020 21:01

If information deemed to be prejudicial is freely available online, then the defence might argue that it wouldn't be possible to have a fair trial, should things reach a jury, I think? That seems fair enough - I mean, don't want to riska trial collapsing because restrictions are breached. If that's not relevant, after the checks, then I hope it will return.

Of course, I very much doubt that was the key concern on the part of most of those making the reports. Hmm
