This is a harrowing read.
I feel immensely sorry for the child that was. However I feel more frightened for the women and children G might be incarcerated with.

It's unbelievable really that men could legally self identify as women before biological women could legally obtain an abortion in their own country.

Majority of people here have no idea about self id it was snuck in as we all slept and here we are now reading about a teenager wanting to rape her own mother with no reporting on teens trans status? We now are expected to accept female young adults threaten rape as normal! 😕
We gave up religious ideology and looks like we've just swapped it for a new one. Catholic guilt knows no bounds

@nepeta

Thank you all the explanations. The situation sounds truly awful in Ireland.
Yes. Very few people here seem to have noticed though.

Is it really the case in Ireland that a person doesn't have to change a single thing when changing gender identity? Donald Trump, say, were he Irish, could continue exactly as he is but just declare that he is now a she? Any man could simply change identity and then apply to scholarships intended to correct historical discrimination against female-bodied people etc.?

It is. Shocking, isn't it?
You apply by completing the form linked to in the gov.ie link above. You don't have to change your name, but you can, either by deed poll or proof that you have been living as that name for 2 years.

You can then legally access anything a woman can. Competitions, scholarships, places on boards, changing rooms etc. And women can't even raise this as an issue without being labelled transphobic.

peanut2017 · 26/09/2020 19:13

@XXSex I think you are right. We need to learn from what tactics were in the UK.

The amount of changes that have been brought in for a small minority is astounding. We are 50% of the population and we still don't have equal rights. Such a toxic agenda

MadamBatty · 26/09/2020 19:11

Exactly what Annasgirl said. I brought up issues with my local very seasoned & usually sensible TD. He was really puzzled ...‘it’s the law, do you you expect me to change the law’. Oh & be kind

peanut2017 · 26/09/2020 19:10

This just makes me feel sick. Was trying to explain what's happening to some mothers on a group I'm on and straight away the 'I hope no trans people are looking at this' ' what about the poor trans' and putting up a story from a trans woman who was delighted she transitioned from a young age.

Was trying to highlight a few key points and then the messages came that it was too heavy.

We are asleep at the fucking wheel in Ireland. Hse not using the word women when talking about our cervic. Got onto an organisation that was advocating to get this changed and they had a template to use to send to your TD and low and behold we are called pregnant people

XXSex · 26/09/2020 19:05

Surely surely we can wake everyone up to this now? Is it a poster campaign? A protest?

My BIL was similar - very wokier than thou. I decided just not to speak about it but he came as kind when I was reading the newspaper and that was when some gymnastics organisation had declared that boys could change and compete with girls (age they got to wear shorts though!) if they so chose.

I was reading it out loud and he was ‘Uhuh...
what, wait - what was that?????’. His little girl had just taken up ballet and gymnastics. Funny how men seem to only get it when they ‘get it’.

Annasgirl · 26/09/2020 18:58

@SerenityNowwwww - if you knew my DSis you would know not even to expect it. TBH she is younger than I am and works in a very woke area and lives in a very woke area. But she is coming round and supported me in the campaign to get signatures for the HSE cervical check site.

SerenityNowwwww · 26/09/2020 18:47

Annasgirl - I hope you got a bloody apology from her.

Custardcream1244 · 26/09/2020 18:47

@Nepata
I have copied a section from a link above . Based on this the answer to your question is Yes.

Effect of a Gender Recognition Certifcate

Once a Gender Recognition Certificate is issued a person’s gender “becomes for all purposes the preferred gender from that day forward. Accordingly, if the preferred gender is the male gender the person’s sex becomes that of a man, and if it is the female gender the person’s sex becomes that of a woman.” Applicants can also have the GRC issued in a different name to that on their original birth certificate.

Annasgirl · 26/09/2020 18:43

@nepeta - yes, it really is. DSis, who calls me a Terf and jokes about my friendship with Glinner (oh the lols) - was shocked, shocked I tell you, when I explained the stats on transition to her.

None of those famous people who you hear about in the media who are transgender have actually had an operation to remove their male parts. Only a teeny tiny percentage of transwomen ever have the final operation. And most of the loudest, wokest, take women's places transwomen have not even had hormones. They just "self ID" into the role. 'Cause, you know, feelings and all, that's really all that counts.

Oh and the man in the Irish Women's prison, is all man, he self ID'd into the prison. But you will hear none of this in the MSM in Ireland because we are the wokest of the woke and proud, in the long tradition of Ireland, to throw women under a bus.

nepeta · 26/09/2020 18:35

@Custardcream1244

In this case Barbie isn't a convicted sex offender afaik. Which demonstrates the whole weaknesses in Self ID. Anyone case change gender for whatever reason they choose. It is completely based on trust. Safeguarding wasn't even considered when the legislation was implemented

That means everything becomes mixed sex, from hospital wards to prisons.

StephanieRang · 26/09/2020 18:33

@Thelnebriati

There is a flaw in the system when convicted offenders can change their legal gender.
Absolutely. I also feel there is a flaw in the system when anyone can change their legal sex.

Once a Gender Recognition Certificate is issued, the gender of the person named on the certificate becomes for all purposes the preferred gender from that date forward.

Accordingly, if the preferred gender is the male gender the person’s sex becomes that of a man, and if it is the female gender the person’s sex becomes that of a woman.

This is from <a class="break-all" href="https://www.gov.ie/en/service/b55abf-gender-recognition-certificate/?referrer=www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/GRC1.aspx" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.gov.ie/en/service/b55abf-gender-recognition-certificate/?referrer=www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/GRC1.aspx

They are mixing up sex and gender. Surely your sex can't change, but you can legally live as your chosen gender.
Sex needs to be included in the equality act, and places can be segregated by sex NOT GENDER where necessary.

SerenityNowwwww · 26/09/2020 17:38

Wonder why they didn’t choose a K first name to match the rest of the Kardasians.

SerenityNowwwww · 26/09/2020 17:30

I thought the whole thing about jail was to keep the public safe. They have spoken about killing and raping. And so they are allowed out to threaten - what if they carry out the threats??

On one of the few occasions when this whole issue was discussed in the media it was immediately labelled trans phobic.
