What not ebay ffs!

DarkmilkAddict · 26/09/2020 20:43

My dad even commented on eBay an attractive body I had, aged around 15, ad I was walking towards him totally naked against my will.

He was a schoolteacher for 45 years

MandosHatHair · 26/09/2020 20:43

Thank you Handsoffisback nice glass of Rose for me. DH knows the superdrug story so just had a vent to him.

Datun · 26/09/2020 20:34

Enlightening thread.

littlbrowndog · 26/09/2020 20:32

Dark 💐💐💐

I would never as a developing teen want my dad my brothers and strange adult men to see my naked body

that was my boundaries and it’s my body not my parents body. Mine

Mine

When I go on the beach I can see all types of bodies didn’t need that empowering stuff

Don’t need to see strangers naked genitals cos my parents think it’s ok

The very thought of having to go naked in a pool omg.

Ha I hope so too! Seeing how men can act in ordinary circumstances just makes me wonder why people would put thier kids basically on a platter for these people. I really ought to leave the thread now.

I don't think my Mum knew either, I think she was as shocked as I was, the anger didn't set in until a bit later, by then he was gone.

I'm so sorry DarkmilkAddict

I know I was going to leave the thread but perverted men will always find a way. When I was a teen (in school uniform) a man snuck up behind me in Superdrug and felt my bum. I was right next to my mum. I told my mum and we were both shocked, she shouted pervert or something along those lines to him but those were the only consequences he recieved. Thank fuck I had clothes on really.

This is crap about oh children werent forced, safeguarding means you ask and its childrens choice. Bs. children shouldnt even be put in a place to be asked this. they are usually keen to appease adults and not yet fully confident to articulate or critically think about something so to say you safeguarded by asking and giving choice is bonkers. The way an adult may ask and broach the subject can cause easily influence children to say whatever they think the adult wants to hear in order not to disappoint.
Fucking naturists.

noraclavicle · 26/09/2020 19:59

These naturist swims have been happening for YEARS, at least since the 1980's

Strangely, so have sexual assaults. Our weekly class swim in the local swimming pool was in the 1980s, during open mixed-sex adult and child sessions. I was assaulted more than once by an older male swimmer. I was very short-sighted so friends started warning me he was heading in my direction. Couldn’t get anyone to take it seriously - the teacher laughed at me when I told her. It took several complaints by others before he was barred (and that was all that happened to him of course).

Here’s the thing - adults with ill-intent towards children tend to gravitate towards events and places where the can get access to them, especially if other adults provide it by selling tickets. One would hope attitudes towards safeguarding had moved on a bit from ‘no big deal’ since the 1980s.

DarkmilkAddict · 26/09/2020 19:56

Thanks all, I reckon I’ve worked through some issues on here!

It actually wasn’t the naked women who I felt uncomfortable around, thinking back. If I imagine a similar set up with no men it would’ve definitely felt odd, but the fear and shame would’ve been much lower

Lady1576 · 26/09/2020 19:55

mandoshathair et al, do you allow your children to display their hair? Do you display your hair? If so why? What could possibly be pleasant about it? Are you sick? I worry about parents who allow their children to display their hair.... Can children give informed consent to displaying their hair / feet / ankle? yadda yadda yadda. Horses for courses. We’re all different. Try to get out more and see the world with all its fascinating customs & differences. It can be fun. It’s weird that a known paedophile is allowed to such an event, but no need to attack people who have quite calmly and coherently explained their way of life.

Wildswim · 26/09/2020 19:54

I've signed the petition against this and hope everyone else has too

It's shocking that single adult men can buy tickets for this. What on earth is the pool thinking?

Safeguarding doesn't seem to matter anymore.

Angryresister · 26/09/2020 19:51

Many times on naturist beaches I have confronted voyeurs, wankers and my friend chased a man following her daughter swimming, and him arrested. He had form. I wouldn’t take children on the beaches as this happens . As always women notice the suspicious ones, but the men deny there’s a problem. I would really like women beaches..

shreddednips · 26/09/2020 19:50

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you dark Thanks

Bonkersblond · 26/09/2020 19:49

@DarkmilkAddict - I know exactly where you are coming from 💐my very first experience of the Naturist club we went nearly every weekend in the summer hols, the blue inviting pool that any kid would just want to jump into, the slight catch, you weren’t allowed to wear swimwear, so a child is faced with this decision and forced to take their clothes off if they want to swim.

Pelleas · 26/09/2020 19:48

I think the conversations in this thread are becoming rather circular now. I don't want to go on with a debate that may be distressing to some who have suffered parental abuse.

I will summarise my view by saying that no one is denying paedophiles may exist in naturism - but, unfortunately, they exist in almost every environment and there is no evidence that they are more common in naturism than any other activity.

DarkmilkAddict · 26/09/2020 19:45

Thank you Handsoff I really appreciate that. I ought to use my energy to start a campaign or something! Honestly I’m not a prude, and I’m fine with consenting adults doing what they like, but it’s so different for children.

Craddle64 · 26/09/2020 19:42

Eww ffs

shreddednips · 26/09/2020 19:42

I just don't see how you can tell whether a child really wants to participate in naturism though. I would have gone along with all sorts of things as a child if I felt it would gain me the approval of the adults I loved. Not that I lacked positive attention, but I was eager to please and might have squashed down discomfort because I believed my parents knew what was right because they were adults and I was a child. I also wouldn't have understood all the nuances around nudity that adults do enough to know whether it was something I wanted or not. I can picture being ok with it at the time and then looking back on those experiences with discomfort as a teen or adult.

None of this is me rubbishing naturism as a whole, or disagreeing with the very valid points made about the benefits of children seeing bodies as normal. But for me, I feel like the potential for this to go wrong, as clearly it has for some posters, outweigh the benefits. I suppose I don't see why children can't get the benefits from being naked in private with their families instead of being exposed to strangers. Whereas the football example is different, because I can't train my child to be a good footballer in my garden with just me and my DH.
