Just watched it, it featured Benjamin Butterworth, George Galloway and Rose of Dawn. BB got his arse handed to him by Piers and Rose was brilliant! Well worth a watch! It was on at 8.15 so you can watch it in an hours time if you're at home. Also Twitter reactions were v positive, with pp wanting to buy the book as a result!

@ArabellaScott

Don't be broken! Benjamin Butterworth is the best thing to have happened to GC feminism this week.

Long term, they're accelerating the spreading awareness of TRA messages and piqueing the interest of an ever wider audience. So it's all grist to the mill.

Remember the strategy was to avoid media attention? PinkNews are one of the few outlets repeatedly bringing the more extreme/outre aspects of this ideology to the public sphere. They're doing a great job.

I completely agree. He is quite unable to articulate any kind of logical or coherent viewpoint and comes across as a bit of a zealot.

Which is useful enough. But when you add in the fact that he is about the only person willing to be interviewed, and appears to leap at the chance, it's brilliant.

NoDebate was a deliberate strategy, because any searching questions expose not only the misogyny, but the lack of consistency, logic and evidence.

And there's Buttons barely unable to contain his excitement at the chance to do it.

SoManyActivities · 19/09/2020 10:10

He's just pulling words out of thin air. Now I see how PinkNews gets its 'stories'. They just make them up. Amazing, really.

They literally do make stuff up. My absolute favourite is this article saying that Mumsnetters 'threaten drag queen with crucifixion'. When what was actually said was that if anyone did what this drag queen had done in any other arena 'they would be crucified'.

www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/06/23/drag-queen-story-hour-uk-aida-h-dee-sab-samuel-leeds-city-council-sarah-field-mumsnet/

I literally couldn't believe it at the time! The whole article is absolutely ridiculous, but the 'threatened with crucifixion' bit is just Shock

And Owen Jones, who claims to be a serious journalist, retweets Pink News on a fairly regular basis. Bizarre...

The thing I find very depressing is the focus on whether JK Rowling has ever been transphobic and the lack of acknowledgement that all her comments have been about supporting women.

I’m only on page 103 of Troubled Blood, but as far as I can work out the main focus in this book is WOMEN! But who wants to talk about boring old women when you can get more clicks with ‘transphobic comments’.

It may be difficult to cancel JKR, but apparently it’s very easy to cancel talking about women’s rights. Even the Fawcett Society tweet platitudes instead of actually talking about the issue - because apparently that is somebody else’s job.

I think the irony of this tweet by Benjamin Cohen of Penis news may have broken me:

"Transphobes:
@PinkNews
is a rag, I hate it
Me: Why do you read it?
Transphobes: No one reads
@PinkNews
, I hate it
Me: If you don't read it, how do you know what we publish?
Transphobes:
@PinkNews
is a rag, I hate it
Me: Bye Waving hand "

He hasn't even tagged LGB Alliance or Bev into his mad accusation about them.

It is worthy indeed.

TorkTorkBam · 18/09/2020 21:59

His gasp so needs to be a meme.

Winesalot · 18/09/2020 21:58

Grin at the gasps !

TorkTorkBam · 18/09/2020 21:56

Gosh, on that thread he is suggesting that Rose of Dawn is "pulling up the ladder behind them".

Not tagged Rose of course.

Always astonishing to see the misplaced confidence of the mediocre man, as someone noted above.

Of course I gasped dramatically when I read his tweet. It is only natural.

Winesalot · 18/09/2020 21:36

Oh dear. And now saying that because Bev Jackson said no one is born in the wrong body, (cue a hysterical gasp), she is denying the existence of trans people!

Oh this twitter thread is gold.

queenofknives · 18/09/2020 09:12

@DialSquare

Benjamin Button looks (and sounds) like the love child of Harrop and Little Owen Jones.
This is the perfect description!

That whole interview was hilarious Grin

DeaconBoo · 18/09/2020 09:11

@Chicchicchicchiclana

I have got a female relative (I'm going to call her cis and hetero just to speak in the language she uses) who is 30 years old who deleted me off FB for sharing the meme comparing what JKR actually said about people who menstruate to the Twitter comments (choke on my lady dick etc) she received in reply.

Unbelievable but true.

Sorry - just to be clear, she reported you for the meme and you got your Facebook account deleted? I had no idea this happened, particularly when it's so hard to even get one offensive (anti-islam etc) picture removed.
merrymouse · 18/09/2020 08:52

Then again, he's the same person who decided to identify as black and take a person of colour's delegate space.

And then argued the toss when he was asked to step down.

merrymouse · 18/09/2020 08:50

Unfortunately Bev didn’t make a clear case describing that when lesbians do it they are vilified and harangued into accepting “lady cock” hmm and deemed transphobic and bigoted blah blah blah.

And that its not just about people posting rubbish on twitter or harassing lesbians in clubs, but some dating apps making it impossible to state a sexual preference based on actual sex.

OvaHere · 18/09/2020 08:42

@BettyFilous

Oh my! Benjamin prefers “male physicality”, aka genital fetishist in TRA parlance. I hope he’s donned his hard hat and locked down his social media.

Love Bev’s calm, unhurried explanations.

Nah, he'll get a pass just as Harrop and OJ did. Boundary removal is for women. Men are allowed to say no.

ShagMeRiggins · 18/09/2020 08:09

He did support the idea that homosexual people ought to be allowed to choose who they’re with, gender identity aside.

Of course he states that from his point of view as a gay man who is attracted to the male physique. He says nothing of the rights of lesbians to reject transwomen who have male bodies (penises).

Unfortunately Bev didn’t make a clear case describing that when lesbians do it they are vilified and harangued into accepting “lady cock” Hmm and deemed transphobic and bigoted blah blah blah.

There was a lot more that could have been said because the public really doesn’t understand that this is happening.

However, I do like the way she kept it about sex and medicine, as much as possible, and didn’t get distracted by feelings.

Also, I’m sure this has been mentioned here as being problematic but I haven’t seen it, in one of the Twitter comments a poster mentioned how the whole ‘born in the wrong body’ is ableist, which is something I hadn’t thought through.

That is the best pantomime gasp and headshake I've ever come across.

Court jester, indeed.

It shows it is all a fun game to him.

@ItsLateHumpty

If Benjamin was a real trans ally he would have given his platform to an actual transgendered person, not spoken for them. He comes across as transphobic in that interview too. He denied trans men were men, and he was quick to make sure everyone knew he wasn’t trans himself.

I suggest he stay in his lane, sit down, educate himself, and listen.

I really hope he doesn’t get cancelled for this...

Then again, he's the same person who decided to identify as black and take a person of colour's delegate space.
SunsetBeetch · 18/09/2020 07:02

I like the Talk Radio discussion format better: eveyone gets a chance to speak without being cut off or talked over. I know that's Piers' shtick though so GMB is unlikely to change.

TorkTorkBam · 18/09/2020 06:57

Bev is ace.
