The awful trend on Twitter

Hi, I don't post often, but I've seen the awful twitter trend today in regard to J K Rowling, I just feel so scared and defeated about women's rights, why are more people not up in arms and defending us? I also fear for her and women's safety, as some of these TRA's seem really unhinged.

I've just ordered the book - I was going to wait to get it for winter reading but helping it push it up the best seller charts is obviously the feminist thing to do.

@IHateCoronavirus

There is too much hate against JKR at the moment. DP and I did “free” Harry Potter walking tour of Edinburgh recently and we were horrified to hear the guide criticising her for being “mad” and writing about her “unreasonable opinions!”. These people make a living out of what she had written, they announced to distance themselves from her they would be donating a percentage of their profits to a Scottish transgender charity! We were completely agog, but the other couples (possibly mid to late 20s) were all nodding along with him!
hummm thats bloody outrageous... if its who I think it is (Edinburgh is a VERY small place) they have made a very good living off the back of JKR

@PopperUppleton

But but but Val McDermid wrote about this particular story line/plot device in 1995 and she's actually a lesbian, ie actually part of the community...
It's also a plot in novels by PD James & Ruth Rendell but I guess 'derivative' wouldn't generate the same amount of click bait for Pink News or Twitter outrage.
Torvean32 · 14/09/2020 22:58

I dont think JKR gives a crap about these twitter twats.
The publicity for her new book is great though.

notyourhandmaid · 14/09/2020 22:53

@KettlePolly

It's Twitter - Twitter is the new Tumblr - it really doesn't count as reasonable discourse - it's just drunk teenagers.
They definitely act as such but there are plenty of adults, particularly in publishing and journalism, taking part in this. Sad

@iguanadonna

Nah it's men with slip-on shoes you shouldn't trust. Or, in fact, all men. Any men. Shouldn't trust any of them 100%.

JKR's Strike books are FANTASTIC. I'm a massive whodunnit addict and these are some of my absolute favourites. They stay with you. I can't wait for this one to land in my Audible app on its own account, but knowing that I'm pissing off a bunch of misogynistic Twitter dicks is the apple in my anticipatory pie.

I'd agree that men in general can't be trusted.Grin I can count the men I would trust with my life on one hand! Hmm

I'll be buying the Strike books when I get paid and find cheap copies (I'd love to show support and buy them full price but I have to eat). They've been on my "to buy at some point" list for ages. Now they are at the top!

MarmiteMarshmellow · 14/09/2020 22:46

I've preordered too. I really hope it ends up in the bestseller list

Wandawomble · 14/09/2020 22:45

Silkworm also has a female unhinged character (Strikes ex) and several unhinged publishing people both Male and Female. Or do all trans characters have to be saints? That would be very boring for any trans actor or actress to play. It’s much more fun playing complex characters than perfect saints.

Wandawomble · 14/09/2020 22:42

Also the book hasn’t come out yet. The silkworm had a trans MtF character who was left unhinged by cruel treatment from a male character who was cruel and abusive to her. Strike is annoyed with her because she tries to attack him but Robin is very sympathetic.

No one has any idea how JK is writing this character yet and what other characters she is writing about in relation to them.

Effing Twitter and their hysterics.

Datun · 14/09/2020 22:39

Interesting that the only two posters crowing about this have been deleted for breaking guidelines.

What is it about violating rules all the time?

Redshoeblueshoe · 14/09/2020 22:38

MondayYogurt I didn't realise that you can report a Trend on Twitter, thanks

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 14/09/2020 22:38

True true brave women

They really are, that's awful Sad

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 14/09/2020 22:36

@RufustheSniggeringReindeer

I’ll probably get my copy from waterstones

Theyve not said anything daft have they?

Don't think so. I like to hide LOJ's book when I'm in there

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2020 22:35

Women everywhere standing up for different reasons

The awful trend on Twitter
littlbrowndog · 14/09/2020 22:34

If you ar3 on twitter go see what’s happening there. These women 👏👏👏👏

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2020 22:28

I kinda think about the suffragettes and how they suffered. Just to get the vote

Got force fed put in prison were violently attacked. How brave were they

I know we are being doxed and losing our jobs and our reputions and being abused onSM

Same thing different ways of abusing women.

Still we are here and still we will carry on on all fronts.

Safeguarding children safeguarding women and the rest you all know that stuff.

Makes me proud you lot.

Keep going us

Wandawomble · 14/09/2020 22:27

Totally buying the book now.

Wandawomble · 14/09/2020 22:27

A friend of mine is cawing about this on twitter saying that why JK talked about this - apparently according to friend it is a publicity stunt.
(((Eyeroll)))
Have to admit I was triggered as hell.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 14/09/2020 22:26

They are good eresh

Queenelsarules · 14/09/2020 22:23

On the back of this thread I have preordered lastest book, I am so impressed by JK and her refusal to be silenced.

littlbrowndog · 14/09/2020 22:16

Yeah sure like JK is worried about twitter and it’s bots

Sure she is not

Looking at her book sales

@jack twitter. Get a grip on your cesspool of hate and women hate

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2020 22:15

You're tempting me to order the whole lot right now, iguanadonna!

DeliciouslyFemale · 14/09/2020 22:13

While they are probably banging one out at the thought of trying to frighten JK, it’s not as if they’ll get within shouting distance of her. On the plus side, I had no idea about her new book and look forward to ordering it. They’ve now ensured that she will gain so many more new fans. They’re so good at scoring goals.........home goals, that is. 😁
