@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden

That article from the Times is very clear, and it includes the phrase 'Stonewall, the campaign group for trans rights' which is completely accurate, but I'm sure will be complained about.
I would contest the use of the word ‘rights’ - they mean privileges
nauticant · 07/09/2020 11:53

That's my experience too UnexpectedItem. A surprising number of my very mild comments, referring to factual things, even supported by links to mainstream websites, are either not permitted to appear or appear then get deleted. When I have a run of deleted comments I do wonder about keeping my Times subscription.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 07/09/2020 11:01

Yay my comment was actually published this time! I have about a 50:50 success rate even though I am scrupulously polite and factually accurate.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2020 10:52

The comments are starting to show up on that piece now - overwhelmingly supportive.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2020 10:48

institutionalised bullying of girls and women.

Yep.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2020 10:44

No room for people to think they are just going to be stopped from bullying a child which many will of course agree with.

I'd guess a lot of readers can see that what's been happening in the last few years is institutionalised bullying of girls and women.

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/09/2020 10:33

Good article.

Although I do wish it had elaborated with the thoughts and reaction thing.

He a bit more honest which is they are taught that approaching someone they believe shouldn't be in their soace could he classed as outing them amd ergo a hate crime.

No room for people to think they are just going to be stopped from bullying a child which many will of course agree with.

ArabellaScott · 07/09/2020 09:03

Thanks for the share. Good, clear and precise article. Children could be guilty of criminal behaviour because of their thoughts should be screaming alarm bells up and down the country.

The Times today has a piece covering this and Ann Sinnott's challenge to the EHRC together.

Thank you for the explanation to my naive questions.

This is great, but there is such a long way to go Stonewall/TRAs have inveigled themselves into every corner and crevice of society and policy it's going to take years to dismantle.

And they won't go without a fight.

Sorry not to be more optimistic, I'm so tired of it all.

2fallsagain · 06/09/2020 21:02

@Floisme

Thanks for that 2falls and sorry if I started something there, it was not my intention. But it's very reassuring to know. And also very humbling to hear about so much courage a teenager.
No need to apologise. It gave me an opportunity to clarify a few things.
ArabellaScott · 06/09/2020 20:16

TheBigBad, I'm really glad to hear the girl is getting support and respect. Very sensible to stay well out of the public eye. Bravo to her, and all my very best wishes.

ArabellaScott · 06/09/2020 20:14

The usual inability to believe that a female or child could really have a strong feeling of distress or a problem with accepting males into their spaces

Some people do not see girls (or women) as human beings, with human feelings, agency or the ability to speak for themselves. We're a kind of template to them, with certain hairstyles, empty, smily faces, a collection of simpering giggles and no actual thoughts of our own. Perhaps this is why there is so much rage when women/girls actually do speak - must be like having a dolly that suddenly starts refusing to play along.

TheBigBad · 06/09/2020 20:04

Yes, to underline it clearly, Dd's lawyer has spoken at length to her a number of times as each stage has progressed, and each time everyone involved has been very careful to ensure she is fully onboard with going ahead. There is no coercion, either negative pressure or starry eyed praise. As wonderful as everyone's support is, I know how overwhelming it would be for a 15yo to be a celebrity, so she is content to leave any engagement on this well alone. Although she was arguing about rape and victim blaming with some MRA trolls a few days ago, because she is committed to feminism in her teenagery way. Today she's just listening to the new BTS single on a loop. Protecting kids is the reason this is happening. There isn't the slightest chance of us putting her in a vulnerable or dangerous position.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 06/09/2020 19:54

Wow. She really is definition of ‘Stunning and Brave’.

Annoying how the TRAs are focusing on the age of the young woman, insinuating that she is being groomed to say this stuff
Ah, it’s not their fault, the poor lambs, it’s because the TRAs only have access to a dictionary where the word Irony has been removed.

Floisme · 06/09/2020 19:52

FloralBunting · 06/09/2020 19:25

Yeah, it would be nice to have a thread about a courageous young woman not titled after a bloke, however decent he is.

2fallsagain · 06/09/2020 19:23

@MichelleofzeResistance

I'd very much hope full anonymity is provided for this girl at all stages, she should not have to stand under media criticism nor deal with the less nice/kind factions of the lobby likely to be displeased with her in order to ask for consideration of her legal rights.

But as a child faced with the real situation the adults of Stonewall have inflicted upon her, with actual skin in the game, she has every right to voice her feelings and have that voice be heard, and to be given a legal fair hearing.

I want to assure people the girls anonymity is guaranteed. Just like the teenager in the OCC case. Her name isn't on any court documents and only a handful of people know who she is. The CPS do not know who she is. Ssauk has turned down media requests for her and her family, even though anonymity has been guaranteed. It's just not happening. We have been clear from the start that SSA will do the public facing stuff. She had to instruct a lawyer and provide a written statement so she won't have to appear in court. Her lawyer would not have taken her as a client if any coercion was suspected. The words attributed to her are her words.

Judicial reviews have to be brought by the people they impact. These policies and alliances impact teenage girls so without them there isn't a case.

Just wanted to clear a few things up.

2fallsagain · 06/09/2020 19:15

@HappenedXo

Would it be a good idea to have a separate thread about this? I’m just thinking that the title does not reveal the real point- brave 14 year old girl applying for judicial review etc.
Yes I think that would be a very good idea

Jeeeez · 06/09/2020 18:53

Sadly I'd say Jonathan Slater (prev head of dept of education) has 'deserved' his Senior Stonewall 2019 award by getting gender identity into the RSE curriculum.

Melroses · 06/09/2020 18:31

@MichelleofzeResistance

Award plaques and pretty badges, and wine and dine awards evenings also need to be looked into.

Anyone can hold them, anyone can set criteria - if they have the money behind them to make them pretty and cover the campaigning and advertising. Looks really nice, makes an organisation look really great quite easily and cheaply - and signs an organisation up to a political lobby and keeping faith with them.

Very definitely. Especially the ones that award ministers and others in positions of authority and influence for doing something they haven't actually quite done yet Hmm

Fine when it is all water under the bridge and everyone has reflected, but they seem to be a bit ahead of themselves with many of these 'awards'

TheBigBad · 06/09/2020 18:16

Yeah, I'm not on twitter, but I saw that and thought "Pal, you want a video of my daughter? NOT HAPPENING."
