Well that was quite a good interview. Interesting how the host placed the potential for the political statements like rainbow laces etc as actually meaning something.

No one is interested in what the police are wearing or whether their cars are painted in rainbow colours. What they are interested in is do they show up when needed. Do they deal with victims sensitively and do they do their jobs well . Those abilities or lack of in individual officers do not change in anyway if they swap their socks for pride colours or wear cross around their neck etc

Its an empty gesture that in any other circumstances would be seen as much.

SheWhoMustNotBeHeard · 17/08/2020 15:17

The story is in the Daily Mail and it looks like the National Police Chiefs Council are backing it. The Greater Manchester police chief has quoted the Equality Act and code of ethics to back up their views.

What have relationships got to do with gender identity?

SheWhoMustNotBeHeard · 17/08/2020 14:18

Floisme I haven't heard about any other professions having the same selection. Not yet anyway. If it's not stopped I can see it happening.

There's such a disconnect between organisations and what most people actually think or have little to no understanding of.

The Norfolk Constabulary seem to have rather disturbing ideas and practices.

HazzaTheOwl is on talk radio at 3 to talk about science denying police forces (my summary)

@JanMeyer

No I feel I have a gender confused brain.

Given that gender is a social construct, what does that mean exactly?

I think it means that Larkin was right: The writer has been brought up by blue/pink zealots, sorry, parents. If you are a boy and you like the colour pink but are constantly told NO THAT IS A GIRL THING then it'll do your head in. They fuck you up your mum and dad. Don't dey?

@Floisme

Good to see this thread getting back on track, I think it's important.

Have we heard about this happening with selection to any other professions? Teaching? Nursing? Law?

it would be interesting to see how the discussions/questions were framed in a selection interview/questionnaire to identify these 'unacceptable' views.
Roswellconspiracy · 17/08/2020 10:46

This story is in the mail today

Judging by alot of the comments, I think this is the final nail in the coffin for the police. If people didn't believe what was going on before I think they certainly do now.

There will be serious consequences to losing the last bit of public trust they had.

Gottalife · 17/08/2020 10:18

@PearPickingPorky

Gottalife do you feel you have a "boy brain"? Why?
No I feel I have a gender confused brain. But it doesn't bother me at all these days. I am retired and concentrate on my hobbies, friends and family, travel and my dog. I don't want relationships any more. Too traumatic.

@HotSauceCommittee

I work for a police force and did openly challenge a stonewall rep during a diversity meeting. It was really embarrassing and I was sweating and shaking, (there was plenty of tutting and sighing) but rest assured, there are some of us who are GC and who won't hide it like it's akin to racism. Some of those Superintendents and Inspectors have been around the block enough to have written the book on male pattern offending. And that does not change for trans identified males. I kept my job, am starting a new promotion and training tomorrow, and the force diversity champion took my name after that meeting. Any investigation or professional standards involvement towards me will be put on record if it ever comes to that.

Congratulations on your promotion and good luck in your new job today. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Well done on speaking up and challenging the trainer. It can't have been easy. I can't believe they took your name!

Enjoy your first day. 🙂

Shameful.

At least they had to hand their medals back.

It’s like an episode of South Park.

But I do believe in the girl/boy brain in the wrong body bit because of my own experiences.

But I believe in the exact opposite because of my own experiences. I believe what makes ME female is my biology. My body. And nothing else.

I can respect your beliefs without agreeing with them. Can you do the same?

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 16/08/2020 21:25

@Gottalife

God! My head is spinning. I am arguing no longer. Anyone want to discuss Progressive Bulbar Palsy? I might stand a chance with that. I nursed my partner for two years and it was bloody awful. But anyway I am off to bed now. G'night.
Are we being too rational for you?

Aesopfable · 16/08/2020 21:23

Just to be clear, humans can’t reproduce by pathnogenesis.

Aesopfable · 16/08/2020 21:22

Lots of plants reproduce sexually too.

And some animals can reproduce by pathnogenesis, which why your plants can be infested with aphids so quickly in spring.

ItalianHat · 16/08/2020 21:14

If you knew anything about biology you would know that chromosomal and genetic variation is the basis for the evolution of species.

Basic biology. Variation is a consequence of sexual reproduction and gives animals so reproduced something of an evolutionary advantage. Which is why mammals have evolved to be the “top” phylum (?) in taxonomic and evolutionary terms.

merrymouse · 16/08/2020 21:11

Quite simply if the biology at birth matched their gender there would be no problem

The idea that identity can match biology is subjective and doesn’t negate the fact that humans born with female biology need specific rights, protections and services regardless of their identity.

To protect those rights and services we need language that defines sex.

midgebabe · 16/08/2020 21:10

So as long as I would be prepared to act how other people think I should act then there would be no need for Me to be GC

By that argument there would be no need for trans people either

Because both GC and trans are suffering from the constraints of gender particaulrky when they don't express the societally correct gender for their sex

The primary difference between GC and trans is that GC people think there is nothing wrong with them and that other people should just accept everyone how they are, whilst transpeople seem to believe that their body is wrong, that there is something that needs to be fixed ( ie changed ) about them

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 16/08/2020 21:10

@ItalianHat

Apparently taxi drivers have different brain structures

But eny fule kno that taxi drivers are the third sex!

I was actually waiting for someone to come back with it just means they were born to be taxi drivers but I like this one slightly better Grin.
