But in the centre a guy is hauled out of his car and beaten senseless while there are no cops around? Just great.

ListeningQuietly · 23/08/2020 13:55

Recent scenes from Portland just unbelievable
That depends on whose news you have been reading.

The vast majority of Portland was as lovely and peaceful and chilled as ever right through the protests

Even a few blocks away from the courthouse life was totally normal
with kids riding scooters along sidewalks with their grandparents in tow

BovaryX · 23/08/2020 13:54

You don't get to control what other posters write. You don't get to control how people who don't share your left wing cliches vote. You have a political opinion. It is just that. Your opinion. You don't get to demand that the rest of us meekly submit to your political views. I most certainly don't.

BovaryX · 23/08/2020 13:51

it's Dem cities being destroyed by the Dem aligned Antifa scaring the normally Dem voting cities. People arr fleeing even Cuomo recognises it, New York has lost many tax paying billionaires

Yes. I think an exodus from cities is on the cards, I think this will happen in the UK too. There is a confluence of headwinds which will cause this. But what is happening in Dem controlled cities is shocking. Recent scenes from Portland just unbelievable. One thing if which I am sure, voter turnout in November will be at an all time high. It looks like 1968.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 13:48

Ah, BelleHathor, another poster criticising the Dems.

But strangely missing in criticism of Trump.

Look, if you want to advocate voting for Mr pussy-grabber, do so, but don't pretend you are any kind of feminist.

Women who care about abortion rights and healthcare and above all who care about the continuance of democracy in the US, will not and cannot vote anything other than Democrat.

That's the reality.

What you are doing is attempting to ensure Trump wins by the back door, by putting off potential Dem voters. Don't think it's not really, really obvious. Hmm

ListeningQuietly · 23/08/2020 13:44

Ah yes, Fox news.

New York City has lost people - but that is De Blasio's problem.
he really is doing a crap job
They are staying in New York State so Cuomo is OK
and the cap on deductibles was brought in by Trump to punish Blue States

merrymouse · 23/08/2020 13:43

They won't be watching the daily briefings from the Whitehouse.

Most people have seen the daily public briefings from the Whitehouse. That is why they are so concerned about a second Trump term.

BelleHathor · 23/08/2020 13:37

@BovaryX

that previously anti gun advocates are buying guns because they are so scared

Yes. And former Dem voters are openly saying on Twitter that this violent disorder and its apologists are like a campaign advert for Trump....

Bovary don't you know there is no such thing as a former Dem 😉, everyone who disagrees is an "astroturfer/Russian bot/Rethuglican". They won't be watching the daily briefings from the Whitehouse. Nor did 4 million of them watch Trumps last rally on YouTube. They are not desperate for a 2nd stimulus check and unemployment benefits. They won't have seen Trump 4 executive orders to try and get money into their pockets as Nancy Pelosi tried to get unrelated items into the stimulus bill. 🤔 Trump doesn't even need to try, it's Dem cities being destroyed by the Dem aligned Antifa scaring the normally Dem voting cities. People arr fleeing even Cuomo recognises it, New York has lost many tax paying billionaires www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/new-yorks-wealthy-taxpayers-return-cuomo.

'Spiked' interest in the conflict between women's rights and trans rights begins and ends with 'owing the libs'.

ListeningQuietly · 23/08/2020 13:25

However, at the moment 'not perfect' is better than 'definitely a self seeking criminal'.

merrymouse · 23/08/2020 13:24

If it happens in every election on both sides of the Atlantic for the last five years?

Biden is not Corbyn and politics in the US are not directly comparable to politics in the UK, even if both countries do speak English.

merrymouse · 23/08/2020 13:21

Yes. And former Dem voters are openly saying on Twitter that this violent disorder and its apologists are like a campaign advert for Trump....

Trump has been the president for 4 years, and it is unlikely that he will do anything in the next 4 years to reduce violence or improve safety anywhere. He fundamentally doesn't care and wouldn't know how.

Regardless of whether any of us are bots/astroturfers/conspiracy theorists (and I can vouch for Floisme and BovaryX being genuine regular posters posting in good faith), we are all just anonymous posters shooting the shit on mumsnet.

Meanwhile the actual President of the United States is endorsing Q Anon.

The Democrats are not perfect - no political party has ever been perfect and no government will ever have all the answers. However, at the moment 'not perfect' is better than 'definitely a self seeking criminal'.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:52

Floisme - you're sulking?! Grin

Bless.

Well, I guess we won't be hearing from you for some time then.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:51

BovaryX - you do know that Biden and Harris have been chosen, yes? That there are only a few months until US voters will have to choose to vote either for them, or for Trump/Pence?

I don't disagree with you that the Dems have made errors in the past or been too focussed on identity politics.

BUT there is no Option B, to replace Biden and Harris with alternatives who are less enamoured of identity politics. Not this time.

So either you do everything you can to get them elected as they are, and work to shift the focus - within the US, if you live there, or globally, if you don't - to reduce the influence of identity politics on the left.

Or you advocate voting for Trump.

You appear to advocate voting for Trump.

Mr pussy-grabber himself. There is no way that that is consistent with claiming to be a feminist.

Why are you posting on this board, again?

Floisme · 23/08/2020 12:43

You accused me of astroturfing and you are still making sly digs about my posting in bad faith. I imagine I could report your comments but I prefer them to stay up for everyone to see.

I have no intention of saying anything further to you until you apologise.

Or report me. Up to you.

BovaryX · 23/08/2020 12:42

I suggest you have a flawed understanding of democracy. It means your team sometimes loses. If it happens in every election on both sides of the Atlantic for the last five years? Maybe it's time to look at left wing failures, contempt for voters and political arrogance. You know. Instead of labelling everyone who isn't hard left 'far right.' It's becoming another meaningless phrase.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:42

Floisme - What are you waiting for???

I'm waiting for you to tell me your solutions.

Which appear to amount to 'Vote Trump'. Hmm

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:40

BovaryX - ditto. Couldn't care less how 'respected' a poster is. That call to authority don't impress me much.

Again, as far as I can see, your so-called 'solution' = Vote Trump.

If that's what you want to say, just say it. Be open.

Then we can judge.

And yes, I will judge.

Floisme · 23/08/2020 12:38

I'm still waiting.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:37

Floisme - do you have anything to say on the topic? I'm not actually very interested in you, the poster, and doubt anyone else is either.

If you have a solution that isn't 'Well, vote Trump', then spit it out.

I've been posting on MN for 17 years btw (under about 50 different names) so couldn't give a shit if you've been here for 7.

You don't win arguments by claiming to be MN royalty. You win them by having something to say. Hmm

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:33

I am concerned that a) women will ultimately be much worse off with a Trump victory than a woke Democrat victory.

And b) I am concerned that those voices which attack radical feminism as merely a sub-group of the far-right/funded by the far right are being given ammunition by posts like yours, BovaryX.

I am firmly left-wing. Radical feminism is a fundamentally left-wing movement. It is about equality for women. No movement which supports putting Trump back in power is feminist, and it is disingenuous to pretend that you support women's rights while also attacking the only opposition that exists to Trump.

In a two-horse race, I will continue to be very sceptical about anyone who claims to be feminist yet wants to ensure through their actions that Trump wins the election.

ListeningQuietly · 23/08/2020 12:32

Loving the GOP video compilation
so balanced Grin

Identity politics was thought up by the right to make the left eat itself.
Sooner or later the penny will drop.
the Olympics would have speeded up the process but hey ho

But Trump is an existential threat to all of us
therefore it is not sensible to vote for him

BovaryX · 23/08/2020 12:31

xxyzz

Lack of solutions? You accuse a respected, regular poster of 'astroturfing' for expressing her opinions and you don't seem to grasp that in a democracy, people are allowed to vote Republican. Especially when the chaos, disorder and violence which has been going on for months, along with the 'defund the cops' BS is alienating millions of Dem voters and independents.

Floisme · 23/08/2020 12:28

xxyzz If you doubt my motives for being here then I suggest you do your public duty and report me to MNHQ.

I'll wait.

xxyzz · 23/08/2020 12:27

I'm still seeing a lack of solutions, BovaryX.

You think the Dems should be less focused on identity politics. Not rocket science.

And you plan to do this how? Is your solution voting for Trump instead, to...erm...teach the Dems a lesson?

What??? What solutions do you have? Confused
