CharlieParley That debate happened last year and Tulsi called Kamala out for defending her record as a prosecutor even though approx 1500 Black and Hispanic people were jailed for low level Marijuana offences. There were also many incidences where evidence that could have freed innocent inmates was purposefully withheld only being released when forced by judges.
It speaks to Kamala's integrity. When she ran for president last year she attempted to "rebrand" as progressive, as stated in this NYT article from last year: "With the growing recognition that prosecutors hold the keys to a fairer criminal justice system, the term “progressive prosecutor” has almost become trendy. This is how Senator Kamala Harris of California, a likely presidential candidate and a former prosecutor, describes herself. But she’s not." www.nytimes.com/2019/01/17/opinion/kamala-harris-criminal-justice.html

What I mean by failing to read the electorate is that the DNC have managed to run a ticket including the architect of 1994 Crime Bill: Biden (Which disproportionately led to the jailing of Black and Hispanic men) and someone who as a prosecutor was nicknamed "Top Cop" in the same year that people have been protesting for BLM. They've managed to piss off the Bernie Bros and African Americans who support ADOS (American Descendants of Slavery en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Descendants_of_Slavery).

Dududu
She is and has always been against the death penalty.
She has to work within the legal framework (which is broken)
But has a chance to change it now
(hopefully)

@ListeningQuietly

Kamala is a brilliant pick.

Both of her parents are immigrants

  • so no Southern States baggage on her dad's side
and the South Asian links will bring in the money She's pro Law and Order so Trump cannot play that card She's west coast which will be useful and she's moderate enough to help get the swing states.

What her niece says is irrelevant.
What jobs her ex boyfriends did is irrelevant.
HER Achievements in the last few years is why she's got a good chance of being the next Vice President

I agree.

Unfortunately, one of the things she has done is block DNA analysis for a wrongfully convicted man facing the death penalty...

Delphinium20 · 12/08/2020 16:23

The next 3 months are going to be ugly - US politics in the age of Trump have not yet hit rock bottom but if the instigators have already infiltrated a feminist post on UK MN, we can only expect it to get worse. @NearlyGranny Thanks for reporting.

[quote BelleHathor]Tulsi said it best during the debates last year. This election will be a doozy, her pick satisfies establishment Dems/Donors and Twitter blue ticks but fails to read the electorate again (just like the shenanigans pulled on Bernie in 2016 and Tulsi this cycle)

Could you please elaborate a bit more?

I thought KH is a good choice. But I'm also aware, after living in the States, that our media doesn't really seem to represent US politics fairly, fully or competently. So I don't understand the ins and outs as well as I'd like.

SheWhoMustNotBeHeard · 12/08/2020 13:47

This article from a US LBGT news website is pretty informative in terms of her actions for/against LGBT so far.

Don’t know why my post was deleted. Yeah, you do. You'll have had a message from MNHQ explaining it, in case you missed it. Your post was most likely deleted because it was defamatory. It won't have been deleted JUST for being misogynist, racist, Anti-American, and pig-ignorant - but I read it before it was deleted, and it was all of those things, too.

It’s absolutely the truth and widely reported on in the US. It’s not a slur, not made up, and not an impossible standard to expect women to succeed based on merit and intelligence instead of other means.

You alleged that Kamala Harris has no value but that which she acquired via a relationship with a man, which you claim she engineered for profit. It's "the truth" that she had a relationship with Willie Brown - she doesn't deny it - but what are you suggesting? Only an asexual/virgin woman can be a politician - even thought any heterosexual man can be? Or only a woman who takes very great care to only become involved with powerless men?

Are we going to erase Alex Salmond because he married his boss - or Manu Macron because he married his teacher? Do you have proof that Harris didn't care about Brown and deliberately engineered a personal relationship with him for profit -- even though the public record shows that Brown routinely promoted black Californians and especially black Californian women with legal backgrounds (including many he was not personally involved with) - drawing on his own experience graduating from Hastings (also Harris's alma mater) in the early '60s and finding himself unemployable as a lawyer in California BECAUSE he was black? You do NOT have that proof, because it isn't true.

You're no feminist, and you understand exactly nothing about being a black woman in San Francisco in the '90. Based on how flagrantly misguided your nonsense is, I'm also going to guess that you don't EVEN have a vote in the US election this November at all.

ForgotAboutThis · 12/08/2020 13:19

Also, in that article it's pointed out that he was 60 and she was 29 when they dated, over 2p years ago. And his help, that he claims, was support with 2 appointments to positions that she then worked. He also says he helped several other politicians over the years. So who is the real villian in this?
As I said, women are held to a standard that no one holds men to.

ForgotAboutThis · 12/08/2020 13:11

God forbid we turn the light on gross men who use career enhancement as a bargaining chip to get women to have sex with them.
No, let's just call her a sl#t and say she's not fit for the job.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/08/2020 13:03

literally slept her way up

I don't think you mean 'literally' there. It's a metaphor, so you should use 'figuratively'.

Tanith · 12/08/2020 12:53

Of course, Trump and Pence were vestal virgins, glowing with the shiny purity of their halos...Hmm

PlanDeRaccordement · 12/08/2020 12:19

Don’t know why my post was deleted. It’s absolutely the truth and widely reported on in the US. It’s not a slur, not made up, and not an impossible standard to expect women to succeed based on merit and intelligence instead of other means.

As USA Today wrote:
“Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown addressed his past relationship with Sen. Kamala Harris in a letter to the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday and acknowledged giving her appointments that furthered her career.”
From eu.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2019/01/27/willie-brown-kamala-harris-san-francisco-chronicle-letter/2695143002/

It’s ridiculous for us to turn a blind eye to women like Harris and pretend she got ahead fairly.

nauticant · 12/08/2020 11:09

That's how I read it OvaHere. In these highly polarised times selecting one candidate over another means appealing to certain groups of voters while turning off others. It's interesting that the Biden campaign see centrist/swing voters, including a lot of women who gritted their teeth and voted for Trump, as having more value than the SJW/left/woke grouping.

OvaHere · 12/08/2020 10:33

Does she know what a woman is I wonder... I guess we'll find out soon enough

I'm fairly sure she does but as a Democrat from California she will toe the party line on this one.

What I'm gathering from reading in various places is that she was probably brought on board to appeal to more centrist/swing voters.

She doesn't seem popular with the left of the party because of her former AG record. Those people were never in danger of voting Republican or third party though.

It's going to be an interesting election to watch that's for sure. Being realistic there's a chance Harris could end up taking the top spot if Biden's health were to fail. I don't mean that as a slight, it's the same with Trump/Pence - it's more of a consideration with candidates their age. Normally VP's don't seem to make much of an impact but I think the stakes are a bit higher with this one.

RosieHen · 12/08/2020 10:01

ForgotAboutThis · 12/08/2020 09:54

As per usual a woman candidate is held to an impossibly high standard, and for men lower the bar all the way to the basement. She's having every policy decision she has ever made scrutinised, as well as every element of her and her family's personal life. And meanwhile, Trump carries on being... Trump.

Xanthangum · 12/08/2020 09:47

Amanda Jetté Knox got "cancelled" last night for showing her enthusiasm for Kamala's nomination.

Because KH is a cop! And a transphobe. The evidence for the latter is sketchy, something around not letting trans people in prisons have access to surgery? I'm learning so much.

QuantamBaby · 12/08/2020 09:19

I think it's a fantastic choice - Kamala is a great debater, talented politician and a breath of fresh air.

NearlyGranny · 12/08/2020 09:18

Trump has apparently said that "Some men will be offended" by Biden's choice.

Not as many as the women - and men - who were offended at his!

The entitlement is breathtaking. Or is having to choose a President from among the minority group with a Y chromosome just one of those self-evident truths we hear about?

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 12/08/2020 09:14

Damn.
I wanted Tulsi Gabbard or Tammy Duckworth.

Kamala’s history as a prosecutor is going to get hauled over the coals - very bad timing with BLM.

quixote9 · 12/08/2020 09:12

(Good grief re the slept her way to the top BS. Notice who's at the top. And what's his name, Willie Brown?, never got further than whatever local office he had. That is a very D. U. M. B comment.)

I voted for Harris in her first election for California AG, which she won by a tiny margin (about 30,000? votes in a state of 34,000,000). She was brilliant then, really proved herself as AG, and was also a brilliant campaigner in the primary. She'll continue making mince out of Trump. Her debating Pence should be turned into a comedy special. She's the sorely needed talent that Biden pushed out of her rightful top slot by deciding he'd take up that space.

Sad thing is, enough US voters are sufficiently sexist that there's a good chance having a white male fossil at the top of the ticket was necessary to Dump Trump. That burns. But it's vital to move the criminal psychopath to a padded cell.

NearlyGranny · 12/08/2020 09:04

I'm glad Plan's post is gone. Did you read it, Bertie? 'Factual' it was not!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/08/2020 08:55

If she can get the Bernie Bros on side then great! She's an admirable woman all round imo.

Staggered at the people on twitter accusing Biden of having dementia and sniffing hair. Have they seen Trump?? It's bizarre. No, neither man is ideal, but on scales of awfulness, it's no competition.

No doubt, we need an overhaul of how "democracy" works in developed countries.
