Jameela and Josie backing away

I’ve checked as much as I can and apparently Jameela Jamil and Josie Long (I’m not sure who she is but lots of followers) have deleted their tweets supporting Mermaids. Jameela also seems to have removed her unpleasant tweet(s) to JK Roeling (I don’t think I’ve missed them on the searches) An interesting development.

They backed a sparkly horse. They are not stupid (or at least have access to people who are smart) or people who advise them. They also have a brain.

MrsJamin · 11/08/2020 09:41

BTW I don't think we need to do a personality dissection of their backgrounds and become the "mean girls" ourselves - it's just really unnecessary. They put their support out there without considering the weight of the topic and now light is being shone to show the truth.

MrsJamin · 11/08/2020 09:39

Mermaids have handily put a reminder on their website of the Instagram story jameela would rather the internet forgot. Thanks, mermaids 👍
Also given Jameela warns about the negative (but probably temporary) effects that diet pills have on under 18s (using her alternative organisation /moniker @iweigh), do you not think she would extend the same caution to advising children to take pills that derail puberty so that they may never become a fully functioning adult? 🤔

SunsetBeetch · 11/08/2020 09:36

It was Oxford. I was there at the same time and had mutual friends. She was pretty insipid but very cliquey with people she thought were cool.

Ah ok, thank you!

And her being cliquey explains a lot.

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 09:17

They’ve just ‘discovered’ that they aren’t reversible. Well, who’d’ve thunk it? Who knew? Why didn’t anyone say anything?

NeurotrashWarrior · 11/08/2020 09:16

The nhs u turn on blockers plus now Ireland?

SerenityNowwwww · 11/08/2020 08:51

Doesn’t she usually do ‘well you are all just horrid - I have a broken finger nail don’t you know 😭😭😭’ then flounce off twitter for a while to the cries of ‘you are are Queen’ and ‘don’t let the haterz get to you babe’ ‘you are wonderful’ etc? Or is that someone else I’m thinking of?

JamieLeeCurtains · 11/08/2020 08:46

Some kind of legal action(s) brewing seems likely. And overdue.

@Worldgonecrazy

In the most believable tweet ever Jameela is claiming to have deleted tweets Up to 2020 as she wants her account to be more focused.
So the reason for deleting tweets is to make it a more activism based account (although I’m sure when I looked yesterday there were still many older tweets on there, just specific tweets were missing), but her tweets in support of Mermaids etc and the ‘I’ve spoken to a real doctor about transgender people’ interview seemed to be very much activism so why delete them first? Is she trying to quietly withdraw her support for certain organisations without generating a mighty backlash by covering her tracks like this? Wasn’t there an issue previously where she took heat for identifying as queer and then getting a boyfriend - did some of her recent vituperation/activism come as an appeasement for that?

I looked Josie Long up as I had no idea who she was.

She went to Newstead Woods which is a super-selective girls grammar in SE London.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/08/2020 08:27

Wikipedia says she grew up in Orpington on the outskirts of London and went to Newstead Woods, which is one of the most selective grammar schools in the country. It's a state school but I'd be suprised if it takes many girls from lower-income families.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 11/08/2020 08:25

I've noticed that certain Mermaid mums I follow have also been quite quiet recently and not mentioned them. I'm wondering if there's something bigger going on.
Certain legal investigations/court cases might require people to keep quiet so I'm wondering if its something like that. And yes, it's pure speculation on my part but it would explain a lot.

GoshHashana · 11/08/2020 08:17

@SunsetBeetch

Do you know where Josie Long went to school? From what I can see, people who went to state school are just as likely to share these views.

Not sure about her schooling, but she went to Cambridge and is very middle class and twee.

TirisfalPumpkin · 11/08/2020 08:08

Good thing there are screenshots and the internet archive, eh.

It will be interesting who says ‘I hold my hands up, I got this one wrong, sorry to those I hurt’ - and who dirty-deletes and denies any involvement. When the wheels are thoroughly off the bus I think the first group deserve some degree of grace, but it seems only fair to hold the rest fully accountable. This thing where you can edit your history and control your image is part of what got us into this mess in the first place.

teawamutu · 11/08/2020 07:37

In which case, why not tweet explaining what you've done and why?

ItsLateHumpty · 11/08/2020 07:35

Did she vanity search her name to reply to that tweet, or was she actually tagged in the convo?

Either way, equine excrement springs to mind.

This thread is delicious Gin

Corsicana · 11/08/2020 01:04

Great spider facts going on btw!

Corsicana · 11/08/2020 01:03

needsmoresleep yep the “still” was wrong then. Unfair to imply it was fact, gives people the impression she was a bitch at school, which may be completely false Smile I completely agree that private school encourages a level of confidence and entitlement. That doesn’t automatically mean that a private school girl is a mean girl though, or the boys the name equivalent, whatever that is.

Oh, eek, wrong link. Sorry.

Females are usually larger and more venomous and live longer.

littlbrowndog · 10/08/2020 23:48

Spider sexing. Love it 😍

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 10/08/2020 23:43

You need to look for bulbs on the end of the palps.

For sexing spiders.

Apparently.

I'll get my coat.

Corsican, perhaps the still was wrong. I don't know what she was like at school but have had plenty of chance to observe how other rich cool kids behave. Private school encourages a level of confidence and entitlement. My reading is that this is something Jameela has now, so I assume she had then.
