Wearing a bra

charlotte2129 · 10/08/2020 14:43

Since having the implant put in my boobs have hurt like CRAZY!!! I'm waiting to hear back from the doctors as all contraceptives do this to me. But wearing a bra hurts so much and is really uncomfortable.

Not wearing a bra is so much more comfortable for me at the minute but I'm worried to leave the house without one on. If I saw another person not wearing a bra it wouldn't bother me in the slightest.. but I know other people aren't so accepting and are judgmental on the topic.

What are people's experiences leaving the house without a bra? Have you been judged and what do you all think?? Sorry if this seems like a ridiculous question, I just need some girly advice lol. Please no hate!!Smile

I don’t wear one at work.

highame · 10/08/2020 16:09

Not me, could put somebodies eye out

NiceGerbil · 10/08/2020 16:00

I am more comfy without but would feel really self conscious going out without one and no way would go without for work!

Not small yes people would notice.

On another thread there was a woman insisting that any woman could go without a bra at work and no one would notice... What on earth!

museumum · 10/08/2020 15:56

Surely it depends entirely on how big your boobs are and what you're wearing.

Personally i am FAR less comfortable without support. Even pre-menstrual or in early pregnancy support was more comfortable. I think you need to find bras that are comfortable, you shouldn't suffer physical discomfort for other people's benefit.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 10/08/2020 15:53

I don't wear one, I've never had any reason to think anyone has judged me - not seen any clipboards or scorecards or the like.

If someone HAS judged me for not wearing a bra, it has not impacted on my life one iota.

merrymouse · 10/08/2020 15:49

Sorry, I wasn't sure which board to post on as I'm new to this.. x

Not the wrong board - it’s just that you will get different responses on different boards.

It’s a good question and I’m interested in the answers, but I think you will get a broader range of replies on style and beauty.

FWRLurker · 10/08/2020 15:34

Don’t worry OP, it’s an OK question. It’s good to question things like this, even if it began for a medical reason.

My breasts aren’t huge (B) but still regular bras just aren’t that comfortable. I’d recommend trying to find one of the following: 1) simple cloth nursing bras 2) soft material sport bra 3) just go w/o. If that’s not enough support for you perhaps some of the other women can help.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/08/2020 15:31

I mainly don’t wear one, but I’m
a) pretty flat chested
b) much older than the OP
c) don’t care if people can see my nipples

I work in a school though, so will wear one if my clothes are thin (although often a vest is fine. I also have pierced nipples which show through which probably makes me look a bit odd- maybe why no one comments.

@stumbledin

I really do think these posters who decide their role is to be the tone or politics police actually imply the rest of us are too stupid to work out what may be going on.

If you think a thread is not started in good faith just ignore it.

It is so off putting particularly to newer mumsnetters who haven't been made to feel they must talk about things in a set way.

Omg thankyou for understanding!!! It can come across in a negative way and makes you feel a bit daft for just using this site for what it's there for..
@charlotte2129 If you go to your original post and report it, ask it to be moved to somewhere more appropriate, you might get more helpful advice.

The Feminist boards are a bit 'red in tooth and claw' for any kind of 'girly chat'.

I've already reported it for you but they do like you to do it yourself!
Thankyou xx

If you feel comfortable without a bra on then go out without a bra on and other people can mind their own business.
If you'd feel self-conscious about going out without a bra on then there are many crop tops / bralette/ sports bras options that you may find comfortable.

@YetAnotherSpartacus

OP - some posters think that you are a male to female trans person, or fantasising about being one. I've seen that you have other posts so I am not assuming this. But that explains the comments re jiggling and breast scars and so on.
Haha I'm not a transgender. I'm a 20 year old mum to a 1 year old lol. Wish I never posted this thread now with the responses I'm getting🤦🏼‍♀️

If you mean me... I did respond with some ideas. I was just trying to help OP find a space away from the immediate distrust, as explained by Spartacus
@charlotte2129 - dont let one poster's opinion put you off!

There have been a number of threads on bras on this forum.

And dont think style and whatever it was is in any way relevant.

It is exactly because of style bibles and other such rubbish that women have been wearing instruments of torture for years.

And whether it was "girly" advice or not I got some really good info from previous threads.
Thankyou!! X

Dont you have a plaster or bandage around the implant site till its healed

Contraceptive implant... not fake boobs.

Hahaha this made me laugh 😂 xx

@merrymouse

Honestly, I think you would be better off posting this in style and beauty.

On the feminism board you are more likely to get an analysis of whether you should feel judged for not wearing a bra, which is an interesting conversation, but perhaps not what you are looking for.

Sorry, I wasn't sure which board to post on as I'm new to this.. x

Hmm
CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/08/2020 15:14

Panache ultimate sports bra!

Much as I would like not to bother I have to wear a bra and this is the most comfortable one I have ever found. You may find a different one is more your thing, but do have a look at sports bras!

And yes, chase up the GP about the implant. Mone has been fine but I know that is not always the case.

'girly advice' on a feminism board Hmm
