Has anyone seen William Shatner's twitter? He is arguing against the use of cis and how it is an insult. He seems to be doing quite well too.

@Winesalot

Hey Rufus, you didn’t find the dribbles? Nothing on the news. Grin
We'll blame that on autocorrect...

It's obvious. The missing tribble (my autocorrect tried tribal rights and tribute before it gave upGrin) will have taken itself off to find a Prepper household, and will have gorged itself on pasta.

He's posted this just now. He's good fun.

Sorry to repeat this from another thread but I'm fascinated by the amazing hairstyles of Yeoman Janice Rand. I think William Shatner's Captain Kirk had a 'thing' going on there.

Amazed he's 89

He’s not!!!!

You take that back!!!!!

Portnlemon · 05/08/2020 23:08

So I read the thread thinking it was about Bill Shatner but it's all about Littlemeadow123 saying cis over and over. Very odd.

Amazed he's 89.

@ErrolTheDragon

Anyone foolish enough to 'retro trans' Jo March clearly hasn't read the books.Hmm
Louisa Alcott wrote Little Women and Little Men, but seems to have settled for just the two sexes!

Or they've read it through the queering lens, which makes anything possible.

Spinachfinger · 05/08/2020 16:30

Yes that's a fair point and it was Jo (had to Google).

KarenKuruma · 05/08/2020 16:26

Doh, it was Jo wasn't it, not Beth.

KarenKuruma · 05/08/2020 16:25

@Spinachfinger

I'm wondering whether cancel culture will apply to books and films without cis in the title. It will they be renamed?

Pretty cis woman
Little cis women
Cis man in the mirror
When a cis man loves a cis woman

Fucking minefield

Nah, wouldn't be "little cis women" - Beth was retro-transed, wasn't she/he...
Deliriumoftheendless · 05/08/2020 16:17

His version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is pretty interesting too.

Spinachfinger · 05/08/2020 16:08

I think one of my favourite replies to his tweet is saying theyre dissapointed and have just realised he isn't his character in star trek; seems confusing fantasy with reality is a running theme.

CatandtheFiddle · 05/08/2020 15:47

I'm in my fifties. The words "straight " and "bisexual " have been going as long as I have been old enough to be aware of them

I'm in my 60s. Ditto. I was aware of the use of the word "gay" from about my late teens - so around 40 years ...

I recently read ‘Irreversible Damage’ and while I had heard most of it before, the thing that struck me is that I have always had my own thoughts and would hear something and pack it away to evaluate and sense check, fact check and discuss later. I assume all of us did this. It seems this is not allowed with the young women who are repeating these facts like truths. The book brought home to me that the need to feel part of the group is so strong that they genuinely fear the repercussions of not believing so totally.

And it is so true. The people who Say they believe the theories, ones easily and clearly demonstrably false or so lacking in facts are the ones who resort to ‘kindness’ and other emotive pleas when challenged.

merrymouse · 05/08/2020 15:09

But ever since I've said that I am cis, I've had plenty of abuse and people trying to tell me that cis is null and void. That it means I have zero self respect. That I can't be cis and be a proper woman

It's the feminism board - historically the most confrontational part of a site that came up with 'AIBU'.

In 2003 you would have had received push back if you had said that you liked to wear pink because it made you feel more feminine. Women on this board dislike the concept of 'cis' for the same reason that they disliked 'Lad Mags' in the 2000s - the implication that there is a right and wrong way for a woman to behave, present and feel.

You might think that is unfair, but then you need to explain why.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2020 15:09

who is insisting that cis belongs in academia.

Well? It's a completely meaningless identity politics term that 99% of the population don't use.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 05/08/2020 15:04
@BaronessWrongCrowd

I'm not saying that anyone else should apply that label to themselves. Just don't give me abuse when I want to apply it to myself. Already on this thread I have been called brain washed, that I have zero self-respect, that I am a weak example of a woman.
Nobody has given you abuse though. Disagreement isn't abuse. Hmm
