Barrister Barbara Hewson, states that the age of consent should be lowered in order to protect men. Absolutely disgusting.

Does she have daughters? Or a son for that matter. Imagine my child having a legal relationship with an older man at 13

What kind of man wants to be with a 13 year old child? We all know the answer

@ DidoLamenting - like not a ‘real’ person - someone who says things to get people riled up/start debate? I was at uni with a person like that - he could start an argument in an empty room and would say the most outrageous things (he just could not have believed half of them) just to start a ‘debate’ (in his eyes - he really just upset people and made them angry). Some of the students even went to the head of course to warn them that there was a real danger of his guy getting a good arse kicking because he had managed to upset everyone else on the course. We called it ‘rogering’ (his name was roger).

Sorry, posted too soon. In now reading the date. (Sorry, again) it shows how far back some in power started advocating giving children decision making rights that they’re not equipped to deal with.

Sorry, it came up on another site that I was on and I didn’t notice the date. However, considering how child safeguarding seems to be ignored regarding many current situations, such as sex education (dice game, inappropriate discussions regarding sex, porn) it does show that some in power, are influencing the wellbeing of our children.

OP those commitments were made in 2013.

Why have you resurrected them?

GrapefruitsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 03/08/2020 20:40

@CountFosco I agree I have thought this for a while.

BaronEssoStation · 03/08/2020 20:26

Why this thread now?

DidoLamenting · 03/08/2020 20:25

@SerenityNowwwww

Is she... y’know...?
What are you hinting at?
GarlicSoup · 03/08/2020 20:25

@Soubriquet

I know this is old but still

Lowering the age to protect men?!

Nothing to do with the girls?!

Sick

I'm think we should actually raise the age of consent to 18 with a romeo and juliet clause for 16 and 17 yo

No. 16 is ok . If you were going to make any change I would prefer an upper limit age gap- anyone over 26 commits an offence if the other person is 16.

DidoLamenting · 03/08/2020 20:18

However, she did securelibel damagesfrom theMail Onlineafter the website accepted that it had incorrectly reported the allegations about her

I feel sorry for the Mail Online.

So, the age of consent should be lowered to 13 to protect adult men?

Let’s make it easier for adult men to have sex with children shall we? Great!

Fucking disgusting, and coming from a woman too. There are names for people like her.

@deepwatersolo

I just realized that in the region I live (and beyond), namely Germany, Austria and Italy the age of consent is 14. I always thought it was only legal from 14 up, if the partner was not older than... But no. A 85 year old guy shagging a 14 year old is totally ok if she doesn't take money, 'consents' and can grasp the implications of what they do or if there older partner is in a position of authority over the younger person. Oh and there actually is a regulation pertaining to age difference. If there was severe sexual abuse and the abuser is no more than 3 years older, the abuser won't be prosecuted (unless it was very humiliating and torturous or the victim was younger than 14). I want to puke.
Men must have written that law.
Forgivenandsetfree · 03/08/2020 18:29

@isabellerossignol I was going to say a similar thing re. Trying to appear like 'one of the lads'.
It's almost like she craves acceptance from these men, to show she's sympathetic towards them and she's not 'that type of woman'.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/08/2020 18:05

I agree CountFosco

DaisiesandButtercups · 03/08/2020 17:31

@CountFosco

Yes I agree, we should raise the age of consent to 18 with allowances for 16/17 year olds in the case of a consenting same age relationship, I am guessing that is what a Romeo and Juliet clause is...

This article is truly disturbing. Why on Earth protect elderly paedophiles instead of children?

The comments are really old but I don't think she has improved since then. It's pretty grim and all the more upsetting that it's coming from a woman. She must be the barrister equivalent of one of the lads. Hmm

CountFosco · 03/08/2020 17:06

Looking at my soon to be 13 yo who doesn't even have periods yet no way should 13yo be having sex.

AuntyPasta · 03/08/2020 17:02

She was suspended last year (I think) for two years for, among other things, an insulting tweet about the Bar Standards Board after they warned her about her use of social media. She’s not going to be a judge anytime ever.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 03/08/2020 17:02

There’s a name for people like that...

OldLace · 03/08/2020 17:00

When someone tells you who they are, believe them...

I hope she is removed from her position. Vile.
